The Dream

“The Dream”

i am young.
the window in my room is open.
the blinds flicker as the summer nights breeze blows in.
i open my eyes awakened by the noise.
as i peer out into the night a street light fizzles and burns the darkness away.

i am now in the street. . .

i look to the west down the long gray path.
in the distance another light begins to burn.
i see movement.
i struggle to make out the figure.
an old woman approaches from the side.
she looks weak.
covered in a white gown.
it gently flows in the wind as she limps her way to the middle of the road.

suddenly she stops.
after what seems like minutes she slowly turns.
she is off in the distance but i can now make out her features.
she has a look of calm on her face.
she starts to mumble.
i can’t make out what she is saying.
her lips continue to move.
her face begins to crack with frustration.
the veins in her neck bulge and pulse.
her eyes widen and blacken.
she is off in the distance but her face is so clear.
she is screaming into the night air but no sounds are being made.
her face shows her strain but no words are heard.
and in an instant she is face to face with me.
mouth agape.
her breath pushing against mine.
eyes black and veins shivering.

then, i awake from the dream.
                              laying in my bed.
                          i am left wondering.
when will i have the dream again…

Broken Bones of Youth

it’s the end of an era.
a last second shot in the dark from God knows where.
the kids can’t be tamed.
the life of an adolescent has changed.
the darkness has darkened.
the light not so formidable.
we allowed it, them, us to change.
the cocaine has been canned. distributed. and consumed.
pretty colors and quick deaths.
energy for life comes in pill form. sips of liquid help wash it down.
the weird is mainstream and the normal is far from it.

Somewhere In the Middle

a life like sense or feeling
&
truth,
pours out from the soul of some mad man.
lost thinking of something & nothing & all things that babble & bubble.
& sloth is a demon dream shooting forth from a boy’s fantasy with nothing.
nothing.
nothing to lose in a fantasy
just dreams forgotten.
Horrifying,
Frantic,
Fantastic,
Fantasy.
The dreams of The sick and dying can be so pure.
when we begin & end,
our dreams are pure.
The middle is where souls & shapes & fantasy & dreams lose
morality
&
meaning.

2 Am Dream Catch

2 a.m. Dream Catch (written June '07)

I turn 21 on monday

of course.

how fitting a celebration on a monday…
I try to dream big.
I try to understand the concept of dreaming.

it just seems to complicated.

like pondering the absurdity of the vastness of the universe after consumption of too much inspiration.

or trying to understand why the neighbors dog barks at 1:00 a. m. each night.

I’ve been studying this dream catcher

it’s hung in the corner of the room
for some time now.

maybe tonight i will give it something
good…

or maybe not.

Slouch

Slouch
The day ended like any other day.
The fall leaves blowing.
The crisp smell of decay and life mixing together.
I sat.
I sat next to the fire I had just built.
The flames licking the air
Quickly rising out of the pit that I had just dug.
I drank a beer.
Then another.
I smoked a cheap cigar.
It was a good day.
I didn’t punch a time clock.
I didn’t make any money.
But I had a feeling of accomplishment building up inside of me.
I hadn’t showered in two days.
I hear things.
I see things.
I just want to stink.
Stink and sleep.

Morning Row

The water splashed upon the shore. Your heart it ran from he who adored. Life and love fade fast fast fast. The boat is sinking head held high. The waters rise, the air grows thin. Weight be heavy drag my skin. Goodbye.

Peace Inside the Promise

Years ago it seems,
	Feelings, had dreams attached.
		Dreams, created thoughts.
			Thoughts, lead to hopes.
				Hopes, blossomed into actions.
You see, I can preach and pray,
nevertheless, without action nothing is accomplished.
And the only thing connected to nothing is death.
These kids walk around spouting out idiocies.
	Stay woke?
When did we fall asleep?
Who allowed it?
Why did we accept?

Life is what we crave.
And if we have been asleep, then what will bring the new day’s dawn?
Oh, the sweet promise of reset.

The first glimpse of that glowing sunlight slams the horizon like a tsunami. It drags us from the depths and we rise with the new day. Not quite new life. But, promise of change indeed.
Awake to the day with new feelings.
	New dreams attached.
		New thoughts discovered.
			New hope blooming.
Then, action.
        Without, the day means nothing.
With, the human spirit takes flight.
With, we are delivered the fight to survive.

Action makes us new. It is the driving force that keeps us moving towards the promise of a new day.

Bring on the dawn. Bring on the new wave. Rise.

Thank You

i never saw change in the world
created by positivity.

I have never felt change in myself
created by blessings.

until this moment.

my wife with child
twins safe and sound inside their mother.

three years in the making.

my heart floats.
my soul sings.

my life changing by blessings.

thank you Lord our God.

thank you for unanswered and unspoken prayers.

thank you Lord our God.

for moments of despair.
moments of fear.
for pain.

without these we would not know love, happiness, and joy.

without these we would not know Your blessings and Your love.

thank you Lord our God.

for my struggle. my pain. and my losses.
they have all taught me how to love and live in joy.

thank you God.

i found Your love not so long ago.

with life and heart i thank you God.
