I Wish I Were Eight Again

I wish i were eight again
Strolling down the lonely plains
Fervently chasing butterflies
That cascade the evening twiligh
I'd cherish all till night

I wish i were eight again
No bait to the wild plains
With so much to share
And somebody to comb my hair
And tell me its all fair

I wish i were eight again
With little worry to my brain
And an innocent mind therin
To tell the little girl i liked
That i was still a boy

I wish i were eight again
But times are changing
And memories fading
Roses and daisies are long gone
Guns and liquor are now home.

A Day In Kampala

A flight of birds
Flaunt their enormous wings
Spying the light blue skies,
Of a city protected by trees
Whose sheer leaves
Dance with the January breeze
That hovers over
A people of different origins

A chrysalis unborn,
Wrapped tightly with love
Soon to flourish into a butterfly
This city is,
Of men and women
That toil in light and darkness
In strife for success

Thousand cyclists dot the downtown alley
Where potholes wait still,
Like crocs in a shallow river,
Preying a stray leg,
Or a taxi from a valley of hundreds
That,
From atop their harbor
Evokes in me
The feel of a king facing his people

Twilight sluggishly descends
Upon a tired city,
Ushering in the night lights
That glow of cedar upon the girls of the night,
The streets are quiet yet lively,
With music, liquor stores,
and casinos,
Stray dogs and vagabonds Populate the night,
Clearing the streets of the day's trash

I could still wake,
Oblivious of the morning sun,
Dazed from last night
And still know I'm in this lovely city
That bares untold stories
Of men that fostered it's blossom.

Love Is War

To the battlefield he races

Counting not the
challenges he faces

Broken hearts and hearts
on a break he sees

But in war, there are no
cool breezes

For the tender hearted it
seizes.

Dear lofty heart, I write to
you this because I’m hurt

To the gutters my love and
zeal have gone

Words from my mouth in
disarray I blurt

A painful shot of pride to
my heart I took

Knowing not in so doing
many I forsook.

Suspicion and insecurity
are the order of the day

‘I love you so’, they say, just
to get away

Could you live just another
day this way?

Love is patient, honest and
kind they say

Yet they practice not what
they preach

But just like fine wine, love
grows with time

A frontline general in that
respect I’ve become

A twenty one gun salute to
the strong heart

That which took several
shots that hurt and yet has
overcome

A sign that the strength of
a man lies in his heart.

Heart,You Let Me Down

I've sought yet found in vain
Been slain a thousand times, now in pain
For no thorn pierces deep,as that of a rose
beneath the smiles is a heart that froze
never in my life had i been so close

'Beauty never slumbers'
These the words of love's founders
Blinder by the day are love's villains
Those who got all but in grains
All day they sob in the rains

It's better to have loved and lost than never to have
loved at all
Yes!i loved her always, she loved me sometimes
Adorned her with fancy jewels money could buy
But whyfore dost a lad die for what he vies
Hath love given ye breath or driven you to death?

Though this be the last pain that she makes me
suffer
And these the last verses that I write for her.
As dusk befalls this somber ambiance
In it mine whole shall rest for once
So shalst i at my future glance.

Bitter Truth

Quit the dreams in films
lo kin of grim, its all reached
the brim.
Tears and fears don't
discriminate.
Fancy cars and dresses,the
faces portray
Dirty linen they wash on a
hidden tray.

You strived to prosper
And yet died like a pauper
Wild indeed was your life in
the fast lane,
Its now all gone,like
crashed plane.
Autopsy;A failed pursuit of
fame.

Darling sisters who's eyes
are after the diamond ring,
'Just wait a little longer,its
now at the border,he says'
A lie or two he's
said,waiting to get you laid.
'I just talked to the
architect,he says'
All the sweet talk is now
plain.

Alas!,Here you come
again,in another life
The Movies still air with flair
This time bigger than they
were,
And yet again the diamond
ring has lured a sister.
It is 'truth',not 'truths',so
are you listening to his
second truth?

A Slave of Love

I've died and resurrected
countless times in the
name of love
Painfully swallowed my
pride so that I could have
Have all that which I asked
from above
Today am axed,Tomorrow
I  ask;
Love!why do you do this to
me?Is it your task?
Why hadn't i seen that all
along you were in a mask?

You cowardly aroused the
love in me
Yet the best of us was never
to be
Better still for you,you are
free
What happened?I thought
we'd agree
Now you're gone,leaving
me prone
Please don't ignore me,pick
up the phone

Lately sleep and I are
strangers
My pillow soaks in the tears
of this danger
Please i need a ranger,this
love is stanger
My tears are soon losing
taste,Yes!It's my food of late
I'd never imagined this as
fate
To this date since you
left,I'm only filled with hate

Let me be your love slave
today
Let these tears drown me
in my dismay
Hey,the day I cease being
stupid of love is coming
And as I lay in my
grave,don't shed a single
tear
Don't even fear or put a
meer smear of fragrance
on my grave
Because from the world of
the dead I'll hear every
footstep you make towards
me.

Let Us Give It Time

Patiently I strode down the
alley
Narrowly moving past the
broad valley
Hurry, a voice in my heart
shouts
You won’t find any scouts
Stout I stand and aloud I
shout

Lord please show me your
way
It’s now just a month past
May
But I feel this’ too much for
another day
Help! How does one run
away from love?
Yes, running away from
what one may have.

For now, I like you; I fight
the fact that I love you
love is so big a word, I
don’t want to hurt you
Just like the brightness of
flowers in the morning dew
We’ve had bright times, not
just a few
But Just like fine wine love
grows with time, that’s not
new.

Let’s give it time, that’s all I
ask
For what lies ahead is a
greater task
Please don’t be sad by dusk
From you that’s all I ask
For the good times and
smiles, I say thanks.

In Awe of His Creation

From the bright yellow sun
that rises in its glory in the
beautiful mornings
Following the peaceful,
chilly, non-bruit wee hours
of the night
To the celestial birds that
flap their fluffy wings in
ecstasy of freedom
Gracefully piercing through
the light blue skies
I’m smitten by this aureole
creation. Oh, how beautiful!

From the infinite horizons,
far beyond my eye can spy
Only from which I can hear
the sound of the vibrant
rivers
To the rains that drizzle
from the heavens
Silently splashing on the
countless grains of sand on
which I stand
I’m amazed by this
awesome creation. Oh, how
wonderful!

From the flora and fauna of
the wilderness
And the bouncing
butterflies that spice the
serene ambiance with color
To the ants of the ground
and rodents that burrow
the earth
Creating communities of
millions; flourishing with
life
I’m enchanted by this
creation. Oh, how
magnificent!

From the sun that sets in a
blaze of resplendence
Fizzling out to its glorious
hideout deep in the horizon
To the bats that blindly fly
at dusk from the empty
dungeons to the universe’s
canopy of trees
And the twinkling stars
cascading like millions of
fireflies
I’m mesmerized by this
creation. Oh, how majestic!

Trapped By Nature

I wrote this lonesome song
All day long
Amid utmost serenity
Picturesque and riverine
Scented as butterflies
And cascaded with a p lethora of
butterflies

The sun's rays glistened my eyes
As the palm trees whirled to the
easterly winds
Forget the flimsy fountains
Or the distant mountains
There I saw fluffy waves
And endless caves

Dusk breathed in cold chills
As I heard each beat of the bass
drum
I wished I could run
But one last voice echoed from
behind
Whilst I felt something creep up my
back
I knew I was trapped

Happiness Robbed

It was just another warm
summer in May
I lay by the sea side all day
Away in my thoughts I'd
disappeared
As I looked up at the stars
surrounded by the darkness I
much feared
Beside me she lay as she
stroked my beard
I could have just another
bottle of the finest wine
Because I lay down with
what was mine
For a moment I only
wished time would pause
A rose to one hand as the
other froze
Not because of the cold but of the love that
arose
For an instant death
seemed nothing but a p
conspiracy
Mysterious stories of truth and
controversy
I knew she was mine,we
dined just fine
Sipped the finest wine our
minds could find
Kissed like we were the
founders of love
But time flies and good
times fast come to an end
Age came so fast,but on
love one can depend
Alas!Her eyes closed so
soon,this time forever,the
moon and stars went dull
Death just robbed me of
my lover,my pal.
