Why Do I Write

Out of all the questions I have been asked in life
None of them stump me more like this:

Why do I write?

It does not stump me because it’s tricky
It stumps me because it’s a stupid question to ask

Why do I write?

Because there’s nothing more relaxing than it.

Sure sometimes it’s frustrating
Difficult, fundamentally challenging
But that’s part of the beauty of it

Letting you emotions spill out across the page
And knowing that people read it
That people expect who you are
It’s brilliant

When you live a life of not speaking up
Of being that quite person in the background
Expressing yourself is… magnificent

I’m not me when I write
Something takes over me, controls me
So much so that I don’t really know what I am writing consciously
But it works so well

I guess some people will never understand
The joy in it all

When you're my age and you develop some characteristic
That doesn’t suit the normal criteria you get picked on

It happens, you can’t stop it
But I feel sorry for them

Expressing yourself through writing is one of my greatest joys
And I’m not going to stop
Not now
Not ever

The Anomalies

Red angry lines cut against
My white pale skin
A contrast to the perfect
A flaw in the flawless
So imperfectly perfect

Others- they don't understand
How beauty prevails in such a thing
They don't understand how amazing
The pain can be

It's a portal to another world
A world free of torment and trouble
One where freaks like us can survive
It's the escape

Escape is what we want
What we need
We crave it as a baby craves it's sleep

We are the cattle in a slaughter house
The prisoners on death row

We are the freaks they hate upon

The imperfections that never fade

We are us

But us is never good enough

Not for them

From Then To Now

Hand in hand we walked
together into Reception
Nothing could stop us and
together we were three
James and I LARP-ed Doctor
Who for fun
We talked and laughed for
hours
Because no stress was in our
way
Anna and I smiled and laughed
And jumped on our bouncy
castle
With nothing dividing us.

Side by side we walked
together into Year 6
Some stranger stopped them to
talk and broken we were alone
James and I talked about
Doctor Who for fun
And we talked and kissed for
hours
But misunderstanding broke us
up
Anna and I still smiled and
laughed
And joked about our bouncy
castle
But secondary school was going
to divide us.

With no one there I walked
alone into Year 7
And a stranger became my
friend and together we were
two
Violet and I both loved Doctor
Who
And James found Dominic
So James and I talked for mere
minutes
And school started pulling us
apart
Anna and I still laughed and
smiled
Still promising to be friends
Never letting it divide us

Suffocating and drowning I
walked into Year 9
Hating how I was and feeling
alone
Katie and Chloe were so pretty
And Violet so funny and all
were better than me
James and I hardly talked or
saw each other
But we still made the most of
our friendship
As we were like family, stress
couldn’t break us apart
Anna and I laughed but I did
not smile genuinely
Because the bouncy castle was
long gone
And our schools were beginning
to divide us

Dead yet breathing I stand
right now
And I hate who am I and every
single detail
Fights broke us up and pulled
us apart
So I can feel Katie, Violet and
Chloe
Falling further out my reach
James moved house to a place
unknown
And blamed me for never
talking to him
But really it was because of my
ex who was a girl
It was for something beyond
my control
Anna and I were still friends;
only by a thread
As she did not know about me
And how school broke me apart

So this is me now; I’m all alone
No longer the smiling young girl
of reception
The only person talking to me
is me
And the voice in side my head
You see; they all left me and
always will
So now the only call I answer
Is that of my blades
And the darkness
That is constantly
Pulling me
Down

I Hate

I hate the birth mark under my right eye
I hate my extremely static hair
I hate my big bottom lip
I hate my spotty nose

I hate that I have really *****y times
I hate that people only remember me for my really *****y times
I hate that the real *****es hate me
I hate being cautious so they don’t ***** about me

I hate that I cry over everything
I hate that people know I cry over everything
I hate that I hide from them anyway
I hate that they actually don’t care

I hate the fact that my brother is leaving home next year
I hate the fact that I cried when he told me that
I hate the fact that I hid my tears from him
I hate the fact that he’s all I really have left

I hate my father for making me feel like he doesn’t care about me
I hate my mother for making me feel like she picked him over me
I hate that my brother had to look after me when they couldn’t be bothered
I hate that, in my eyes, they don’t deserve to be called mum and dad

I hate that when I was younger I had to run away from my father
I hate that my mother and brother left me by myself that day
I hate that they left me closer to my father
I hate that they went somewhere I would have felt safer

I hate that I feel like my friends are slowly fading away from me
I hate that I feel like I’m a third wheel
I hate that I feel like my friend’s don’t trust me
I hate that I feel like I can’t trust my friends

I hate the feeling of loneliness
I hate that I read books to escape to a world better than mine
I hate that I write to create a better life than my own
I hate that people want to invade that one heaven I invented

I hate that people ask me why I made Katy Clover Taylor
I hate that I had to make a role model for myself
I hate that she is the person I desperately want to be
I hate that she is the one thing I will never live up to

I hate that I feel like my grades would grasp my families attention
I hate that feeling of disappointment when I get a bad grade
I hate feeling like I have to live up to an expectation to hold their attention
I hate that I am relied on because of my grades

I hate that I am an older mind trapped in a younger body
I hate that I am limited in what I can do because of my age
I hate not being trusted upon
I hate people treating me as a kid

I hate not telling people how I feel
I hate hiding behind an invisible barrier
I hate not being able to share how I feel with people
I hate being scared that they won’t care.

I hate people judging me
I hate judging people
I hate that feeling of giving up
I hate the feeling of losing when I didn’t give up

I hate the choices I have made
I hate that nobody thinks I can live up to my dream
I hate people thinking they are so much better than me
I hate the fact that they are right

I hate that I will never make a good girlfriend
I hate the fact I know nobody would fall for me
I hate knowing that no one would help me pick up my life
I hate that it has fallen apart

I hate hurting the people I love
I hate them not loving me anymore
I hate knowing that what I would do would hurt people
I hate the fact I do it anyway

I hate knowing that I do all of this
I hate knowing I hate all of this
I hate trying to change it
I hate that I am not able to change it

I hate that I try not to give up hope
I hate knowing all hope is lost
I hate that I still try and cling to it anyway
I hate knowing I failed at that too

But most of all

I hate not being able to express this until now
I hate that this still won’t change a thing
I hate thinking that it still might
I hate knowing that no one cares

I Need You

I need you
To clutch me tight and
Wipe my tears away.
Telling me
‘I know it looks bad but it’ll get better’.

I need hope
To come along and
Recuse me from
The ceaseless
Pit I recurrently fall into.

I need someone
To be there when
I have my blade.
To say
‘Don’t damage your beauty’.

But you aren’t there.

You don’t listen;
Not to me.
I’m never there for you,
You completely
Shut me out.

As if I don’t care.
Like I’m not good enough.
Too pathetic; too worthless.
Not worth
The trouble.

So no one takes
My blade from me.
And the angry lines slash
My arm
In every direction.

So there is a hopeless void
Inside of me,
That grows bigger
Every day.
As you push me further away from you.

And I cry,
Every night I cry myself
To sleep. Focusing on beaten
Broken hearts.
Because without you there is no reason to go on.

Past Memories: Haunted Future

Do you sit there and feel like
We are on top of the monkey bars?
Do you close your eyes
And feel my arms around you?
Do you play guitar and remember
How you tried (and failed) to teach me?
Do you hug your pillow at night
And think of how you held me?
Do you remember how bad I was when
You said you'd leave?
Do you feel guilty for promising to
Stay by my side in the darkness?

Because I've brought your monkey bars
Just to sit on them.
And close my eyes and remember the
way you wrapped your arms around me.
I lightly strum my guitar
And picture you doing the same.
I hug my pillow at night and
Try to remember you.
And how hard I cried when you said
That you were moving away.
And sit by the phone every night
Waiting for you to return to me.

Sadness

This sadness is seeping
Leaking, spilling out
Of every cell in my body.
Craving a bullet
A rope
Or pills
To
End
This
Pain.

The Girl Who Could Never Understand

There was a girl so free and young;
untouched by the darkness she was yet to become.
Not yet grown up but wishing she would.
She didn’t realise it would make her numb

There was a girl who dreamed of the future,
who wished of being smart, pretty and free.
She told herself it take years to understand,
When it actually only took three.

There was a girl who became obsessed
with things such as looks and grades.
Every time she ‘messed up’ her confidence slipped:
until someone told her about a blade

There was a girl who was once so innocent,
never before heard of self-harm,
but suddenly she knew how to cope!
All she had to do was cut her arm.

There was a girl who was dead inside-
Not understanding the darkness she had become.
She grew up too fast just like she wished:
Now she’s dead because she felt too numb.

Forever Was a Lie

When I kissed you for the
first time. I shook.
And when you asked why I
told you it was because I loved you.
When really I was just
scared of the idea that you loved me.

When I kissed you for the
last time. I shook.
And when you asked why I
told you it was because I loved you.
When really I was just
scared of the idea that you hated me.

True Love's Kiss

“The princess shall prick her hand on a spindle and die.”

Out of sheer jealously
- No other reason-
An evil fairy placed such a wicked spell
Upon a baby girl

Such an act of hatred
Towards such a person who had done nothing wrong

And ever since she was condemned to a life
She had neither wanted nor asked for

Awaiting a prince no one could be sure would come
To give her true love’s kiss
And make leave the spell undone.

“Queen, you are full fair, it is true, but Snow White is fairer than you.”

Upon the Queens jealous orders
A huntsman is ordered to kill
A sweet innocent girl

Once again she had done no harm
Nothing to cause the new queen pain

“You are to return with her heart.”

The huntsman, unable to do so,
Tried to trick the queen
But to no avail

Soon the queen devised a plan
So evil and cunning

She handed her a poisonous apple
And watched as she fell

But again true love kiss
Brought her out of death’s painful grip.

Moral of the story?

Bad people will always
Do bad things
To good people
Who don’t deserve it

But your true love
Is always there
To kiss
The pain away
