The Paradox of Time

You've seen
what time can do
     How
     winds
           carve rock
and how ancient seas
  dumped their sediment
on the ground
     take note
of the changes
Proceed cautiously
     Our eyes have
tasted fire
     our ears have
seen the progression of time
Let's take joy in
    nature's dance
   Let the earth
      take a few more whirls
wait patiently for
the inevitable march
of the days, months, millenia

The Wine of Life

The past has
flown out the window
The present is full of sorrow
   Look to the future
for a taste of the
   sweet wine of life
Your tears will change to laughter
if you focus on what is to come
Tomorrow - looming ahead like
    a bright shining star
is something we should never
    lose sight of
Let the dance begin!
   Let the songs be sung!
Let the wine of life
   be poured
         into gorgeous goblets of
purest gold!

Purple Flowers of My Adolescence

Purple flowers of my
adolescence
   Gone now - gone forever
  Outside my window
young girls play hopscotch
Taxis whizz by
Young lovers embrace
Getting lost in the humming metoroplis
is a good way to eliminate angst
The biblical three score and ten years
is not that felxible
    Purple flowers of my adolescense
Gone now - gone foerver
Still I see images of them at times
in the eyes of certain strangers

Safe Harbors

The ship we have
    known
is sailing again
    It is sailing through
the ocean of pain
    Through the sea
it sails
    right on course
Soon it will reach
the islands
the islands of temptation
the isles of bliss
No storms there, no sorrow
Our rest is assured
    Before we land
  on the blessed
  isle
We will taste the fruits
         of the life
        we have known
Yes, and we will dance
among the gardens
   where we see
dawn rise once again
over the ocean and the verdant lands

Devoted Daughter of the Moon

Always asking question
The devoted daughter of the moon
     revels in starlight
Sweet to the touch, the taste
She dances around an eternal campfire
    The night wears on
    Still she dances!
She will dance this way until dawn
when the bright rays of the sun
will send her looking for shelter
One million dawnsa and one million
    dreams later
She'll awaken
to cast her glow
upon our epoch
which is in sore need
   of tinsel and starlight

Lights In the Distance

Sitting here in my apartment
listening to the Mets game on the radio
   Looking out my window
seeing the lights from a
  nearby building
   How many lives are being
acted out
      Here in the vast metropolis
How many romances, how many
   dreams
Are taking place behind
   the lights
Imagination can go only so far
Reality can out pace it anytime
City Dwellers feel the
    excitement(and the angst)
           which the asphalt
homeland is famous for
  Life is a funny thing
Our concerns are a small
     thing in the vastness
of the cosmos
But millions of city lives
    create indelible patterns
Which become the soul
of the city
The young, the old, the male, the female
   all participate
   In the dance of the
masses
   This dance of civilization
   Which continues
despite sorrow and regret
    This dance cof urban life
revives the many hope-filled
dwellersw
  In the concrete
canyons of New York City

Newspaper Story

Something terrible is going on
in a distant part
of
the
world
    Open your eyes this
morning
   see what your fellow
beings
        are experiencing
Natural disasters - terrible earthquakes and floods
    put one's own
problems into perspective
   Unemployment may
be up - you may be broke
   You can take comfort
in the fact that your house is not flooded and that the
power lines
are operating well in your area
We ride on our small boats
   toward a safe haven
headlines don't tell the full story
of billions of individuals
on our blue earth
Living day to day
and wondering if there is a G-d
   who will lead them home

The Dharma Ends

Your fate is sealed
   Once a year
or so the book
   tells us
   Death is not
a thing to worship
  Life is!
 When some small creature
        crawled forth from the primeval
ooze
  We were left with
the responsibility of
   continuing the cycle
  We walk on gilded splinters
and just maybe we should let
Father Time decide our fate
  But I feel we should
  resist to the end
  Stop the killing
  Let peace reign
  on our small planet
  which circles a life-giving star
  We are the stewards of
  our biosphere
  We owe our exsitence
to a miracle

A Change In Autumn

As the world
closes in on us
   our eyes
see
    what our hearts
permit them to see
In autumn - in
the waning of the year
as the trees
   turn orange, red and golden
before the land is covered in white
we will see sound and light
Surrounded by nature's beauty we become a part
  of the eco-system
A great dawn
  awaits us
in the end
Voices of ancient
    children
reverberate in the cool air
Sometimes when it seems
that we are lost
the rhythm of the seasons
reminds us of what we may become
Perhaps this autumn light
  will bring this world
to its' senses
Strength, Tranquility
and a heavy sense
      of peace
Are being swept in
by a cool Northeastern breeze

Shadows On the Land

A deep and lasting
peace
       has been disturbed
      by the winds
                   of our time
    Shadows on the land
For every postcard
    you send out
during this time of
     cool winds
     You will receive
and answer
     It may not be the
answer you wanted
    But know that
the sun, moon, and stars
     Are all on your side
Far distant galaxies
      are calling your NAME
