Africa

Plagued with an unimaginable measure of beauty
She sits somewhere between the Indian and the Atlantic
Her history boasts of nothing but debauched slavery
Having served leaders who were very autocratic

She boasts of a vast expanse of unexploited vegetation
An even greater magnitude of untapped mineral resources
Yet her people reside in abject deprivation
As they look beyond their motherland to external sources

Famine, drought and diseases are her nemesis
Her leaders never seem to be sensitive to her plight
Amassing wealth for themselves and families
Ignoring the very reason for their current might

Oh Africa my motherland
Bursting with glory and heavenly blessings
May the good Lord stretch forth His hand
To bless thee with leaders worthy of your consecrations

Love and Technology

The stars up yonder glitter in one accord
The fast moving clouds shaped like a blunt sword

The fireflies in the distance light up our meadow
Their lights cast sparingly on our corning glass window

Our mansion was carefully crafted and built
In the country side, it has this magnificent tilt

Made of expensive material and state-of-the art technology
It was a beauty to behold considering its unique topology

My wife lay on the third floor of an enchanting bedroom
Kissing and caressing sloppily her handsome groom

And voice-commanding the lights to give us some privacy
As we gradually climbed to technological ecstasy

My Fantasy 3

I plan to end the fantasy mystery in this part
And hopefully end up capturing her heart

I guess I’ve withheld her name for far too long
This unnecessary suspense is just wrong

So finally I made that move that has long eluded me
A smile lit her face -- and it was clear for me to see…

She had been expecting this move for a very long time
But my cowardice had prevented me from singing my favourite rhyme

A rhyme that every woman loved and appreciated
Thank God now am getting slowly acquainted

And who knows she may just be the one I might take to the altar
And then I can reflect and confidently say – I have come really far

Unfortunately I can’t tell you her name
But maybe I will – after her wild beauty I have managed to tame…

The Gift of Words

Days of old, days of new
Beckoning on all for a revival of words
A re-incarnation of an age gifted with rhymes
To correct the dispute of the current times

In a world where words reign
Many will seek an opportunity to feign
Deceive the masses who lack this talent
Instead of using this gift for their betterment

Many seek this rare gift in sacred places
But it dwells within the bosom of a few
A selected few endowed from birth
To bless and help all with their unique flair

These words help to win the hearts of many
Lift spirits who have been dormant for ages
Bring peace where it is most needed
And causes an awakening where minds are asleep

After all this world was created with words
Let’s fulfill this creation with our words
Happy World Poetry Day

To Myself - On My Birthday - May, 18

Two decades plus something and counting

My life in this world is taking shape finally

The Twists and turns of the world I'm now understanding

And I'm beginning to treat life more maturely

Fast forward to the not so distant future

I see myself a married and established being

Instilling into my children a wonderful culture

And strapping them in my SUV so we can go sightseeing

All said and done, today happens to be my birthday

I've had so many good wishes from friends and acquaintances

Hoping i enjoy to the fullest this wonderful day

This day will certainly leave fond memories

Mysticism

Deep uninterrupted meditations
Thoughts and imaginations going way deep
Through galaxies and celestial habitations
Failing to make the slightest of sounds as they creep

Seeking acquaintance with an omniscient being
An unprecedented level of closeness
With a Father never seen
And a Creator of unthinkable mysteries

For the Sake of Rhyme

I have some info to dissipate
It took me a decade to collate
And now it’s yours for free
After this exposure I will flee
To a faraway country
I will work in an infamous pantry
There I will fall off the radar
Never leaving my door ajar
Lest they track me down
And bring me back to town

The info is highly classified
It will leave some of you mystified
Maybe you should stop right here
Take a deep breath and call your dear
Start making plans for a possible emigration
Collect a lot of stuff for this relocation
Because once you get to know
You and I need to flow

I don’t intend to make you feel scared
I only plan to make you feel dared
Daring enough to read to the end
Then I will have to commend

What I have is something unheard of
That’s why many of my friends call me Prof
Not because I possess so much knowledge
But because I always seem to encourage

This poetry is simply for the sake of rhyming
And I hope I have done justice with relation to the timing
Many things didn’t go too well in the previous year
But in all that I had someone to call me dear
Who stood by me when things were not so rosy
And offered enough counsel to make life a bit cosy

It’s been a while since I put pen to paper
Not because my ideas were in danger…
Danger of a possible extinction
But because I have been busy with this collation

Alas I have nothing for you
I only lied to make this poem feel true
Also to grab your attention to this very end
I believe many of you do comprehend

In the Pitch Dark

My lady called my name
Deep in the pitch dark we played a game

Tis the wonderful game of chess
But in the dark it was more of a mess

Two souls exhaled unabatedly in the dark
Their mission - one could be sure, was no lark

My entire being lurked excitingly in her garden
My thoughts - from whence camest this wonderful maiden

A degree of intense pleasure - simply unimaginable
The excitement that engulfed us - certainly indescribable

Our souls into one whole merged
Our goal, finally we have achieved

Now the night has grown much older
We lay in the pitch dark much sober

Reminiscing the immediate past encounter
Oh my gosh, lets not forget our maker

He set up this beautiful union
Indeed we shall continue to accept his communion

When You Need Me

Subtle emotions playing down your body
You need a companion in perfect proximity
One that will blow the flaming candles out
And offer ideal competition for the impending bout

Give me a signal when all is set
Either through my cell or some telepathic manner
And i will cuddle you in my arms like when we first met
To love, cherish and treasure like none other

Soul Mate

I don’t really know how to begin this piece
Because you qualify in every sense to be my niece
But you have offered in my troubled heart, inconceivable peace
And for you, this poem – I have decided to deduce
I feel no shame in this truthful admittance
Because in you I have found an ingenuous acquaintance
An acquaintance who is every inch worthy of my benevolence…

I’m still finding it difficult to understand your longstanding tolerance
Even in the wake of my recent repulsive aberrance
You have never showed any signs of abhorrence
In your presence I have a wonderful ambience
And I can’t simply imagine how I would cope with your absence
In you I have a trustworthy alliance
An alliance who will provide for me every needed assistance
