A Dagger of Pain

"A dagger of pain, a tear of grief" Quote by Constance La France

They told us of the agony these poor birds go through. They invited us to join them, there was work we could do. Approaching was the annual licensed duck hunting shoot. Slaughter of ducks, maybe eliminate a species to boot. Anybody could pay five dollars and go shooting for fun, Mostly young guys looking for an excuse to shoot a gun. There was the dad showing off and brought his son. Such a good time shooting innocent ducks, for everyone. A group of us travelled by bus to rescue what we could. Most of us didn’t know what we’d find but we soon would. They warned us the shooters would have guns and beer. A mixture, that you don’t mess with, it’s better to fear. Wings flapping wildly is the first we see as we arrive. A mallard out on the pond looked injured but alive. Bullets going everywhere not a safe place to be at all. Sadly, watching ducks in flight being shot and fall. What angered most of us was what we couldn’t believe? After shooting the birds they made no attempt to retrieve` All had gone, the ground and pond were full of wounded birds. It was such an ugly sight. Too ugly for us to even utter words. We had bandages and cages to load them in the bus. The ones that weren’t going to make it were the worst for us. I had no idea this rescue mission would be beyond belief. We did so they wouldn’t suffer “A dagger of pain, a tear of grief”. Sponsor: Constance La France Contest : Name Writing Challenge A Quotes 16/5/2023

Deja Vu

Time is the the fourth dimension.
Placing things where they ought to be.
To state 'I am', may be true of false.
You see there was a time when 'I wasn't'.
Mostly we think and talk in the now.
What is real in our lifetime.
However this brief period is miniscule.
It took millions of years to get around to me.
Very loosely translated, Déjà vu causes a familiar feeling
One of "I have been here before"
Has there been a time for me, before this one?
Its not just places that spark Déjà vu.
The first time as a youngster that I saddled and bridled a horse,
I did it perfectly and knew I had done it many times before.
At 12 years old, and never having owed a horse before it was impossible.
But still I knew it was true.
Another time? Another place? Another me ?
The place had to exist as places don't just disappear.
Somewhere on earth the place I saddled a horse existed.
Another me? Is that possible? No, I know it was me saddling that horse,
If it were someone else, I would have no first hand knowledge of it.
Then its time. Time is the culprit.
Thus I proved without a doubt, by process of elimination.
Time is the illusion.

Had My Eye On Her For a While

There's a pretty little filly, had my eyes on for a while.
She walks like a true lady, with eyes that beguile.
I saw her first one morning, running to keep fit
I was interested straight away, my heart fluttered a bit.
Now to formulate a plan, how I could make her mine.
I couldn't get her out of my head, she was mighty fine
So I hurried home to see how much I could afford
Bid on her at the horse auction, and thank the Lord,
My bid won, and that lil filly is going home with me.
Had my eye on her for a while, now she's mine luckily.

Good Advice

This is from me to the receiver,
I have always been a firm believer,
Treat all your trouble
The way you treat a bubble,
Dwell on it, it will stay,
Let it be, and it will float away.
Look fer your profits in the hearts of friends
Cause hatin never paid no dividends.
That last line is from a poet forget his name
But my message is the same.
Forgive an forget
Or better yet
Count to a hundred before you Email
And never tie a knot in a guinea pig's tail
Well I guess this is the end
But remember you destroy ya enemy when ya make em ya friend.
I read that on here
It was good advice to hear.
A lot can be learned on soup
Ok its time I flew the coop.

Took Me Back

The cottage was no more than a shack,
But it kinda took me back,
To that place, I grew up and spent me days,
Livin and learnin, its all sort of a haze.
We was poor, but always had enough to eat.
Me dad was hard, and oh, me mum was sweet.
A good combination to raise a lad,
An I was mostly always happy with what I had.
Fishin and explorin just my ol dawg an me,
A good life, as it all come back to my memory.
For a kid not havin much, there's a thing to be said,
He appreciates what he's got, an makes do instead.
Most don't crave more that what they've got.
Ya see, poor kids don't really find they need a lot,
A pole for fishin, a log on which to sit,
A stick to throw the dawg, a few friends close knit.
To keep fit, for fun an exercise a creek to swim in,
But things all change when he grows to notice women.
Then its time to move to the big smoke.
Women aint all that interested in a poor bloke.
They like to be romanced and as you probably know,
That requires a good job to earn a fair bit of dough.
It was time I said farewell, I was off to the city,
Got a job and tried my luck findin a lass very pretty.
Now with the misses an our four kids, life's good.
I try hard not to spoil em, even though I could.
I am a happy bloke, take everything in my stride,
But I kinda look back on that little shack, with pride.

Deceived

My inquisitive mind deceives sometimes,
Finds information that just isn't so,
I find myself committing crimes,
My excuse being that I just didn't know.
Luckily I have never been caught,
Its hard to stay honest and yet,
I just say its something I bought,
Because my foolish mind causes regret.
I thought I was supposed to take it.
I walked away, I did not run.
Never assumed I would not make it.
The life of a kleptomaniac is no fun.

Am I Dreaming

Beguiled by her delicate beauty Mesmerized by her charm. Her soft flowing hair like spun gold, as she danced in the summer sun, As graceful as a floating feather. Brighter than a diamond, the sparkle in her eye, her smile set my heart on fire, Her voice as melodious as a symphony, She remodeled my style and changed my looks , Turned me into something she chose me to be, And incredibly decided that I suited her perfectly.

Betrayal Begins With Trust

" ...betrayal begins with trust." Quote by Phish Being betrayed it destroys all trust, Always staying humble is a must. No thought the deed is to be repaid. It destroys all trust being betrayed. When you are hurting, your wounds are deep. When betrayal makes your climb so steep. Your faithful friends are now deserting. Your wounds are deep, when you are hurting. Faith’s an emotion, precious to give. Trust in a friend, the right way to live. Expect loyalty with devotion. Precious to give, faith’s an emotion. If you’re betrayed, stay strong, walk away. Don’t retaliate, no need to stay. Hard to forgive, God’s word you’ve obeyed. Stay strong, walk away, if you’re betrayed. Herald the Day

My song at daybreak is abundant with optimism.
The dawn brings gentle melodies,
As the sun peeps over the darkened horizon,
My song embarks on a song of grace,
As the suns golden orb is appearing
And lightens the darkened sky.
It brings vibrant colour to a sleeping realm.
My song springs into full illustrious voice.
Lyrics flooding the countryside with hope for a joyful day.
Welcoming the day with words of wonder,
Its clear voice waking the birds and all that slumber.
The wafting breeze brings tuneful chords,
And the lilting song takes flight with a symphony of sound.
Percussion breaks the sweet serenade with thunderous excitement,
as the earth proclaims its power dominating the land,
with a brief thunderstorm with tumultuous baritone resonance,
As the vibrato heralds the peace resuming her sway.
The somber soulful song entered by a soprano’s lilt,
And lingers into a delightful aria pronouncing the relax of the day,
Embraced by the landscape falling into shadow,
As the sun slides lower, the tune is carried by the flute’s sweet array.
The crimson sphere sinking below the hills and the serenade fades away.
As the light is engulfed by the silence of the dark night once more.

Screen of Awareness

This poem is the result of damage to neurons in the frontal and temporal lobes of my brain. My intelligence deteriorates daily – By Poet.

Through my inner being,
I grasp my primal consciousness.
Where thoughts are filtered,
The deepest seem hidden even from me,
Only accessible to my subconscious,
The misted screen defies entry.
I yearn for the clarity within.
Do my dreams simulate this awareness?
Do they lift the veil of protection?
Or do they serve to create this confusion?
Searching my tempestuous mind,
I reach the intangible.
I strive to procure a sieve,
That will once again release awareness,
To my demented mind.
