Midnight Pearls

.

                 Shine, midnight pearls!
                 The smoke curls up
                 in whirls of doom.

                 On the wet sand
                 my own hand draws
                 unplanned pierced hearts.

                 Deep blue-black sky
                 I play by rules
                 and sigh despair

                 to lay aside
                 starry-eyed dreams
                 that hide a sin.

                 Shine, distant stars!
                 through guitars notes,
                 through scars of time.

                  For her first kiss
                  an abyss drains
                  all bliss from me

                  and far away
                  shadows play down
                  their spray of doubts.

                  Opaque pearls, shine!
                  On this fine night,
                  define my north.

Catfished

His hair online
Looked divine, so
To dine, she went.

She’d been misled
And with dread, saw
His head was bald.

What a bad dish.
Her fond wish was
Catfish instead!

*catfished (a fairly new term for those who don't know of it)
Being deceived over facebook as the deceiver professed their romantic feelings to his/her victim, but isn't who they say they are.

Hear My Sweet Dreams

Hear My Sweet Dreams

Hold your dreams tight!
In your sight then
Each night sleep there.

Dream on with glee!
You hold me thus
Lets be with care.

Under pale blue moon
Love blooms soon show
in rooms quite fair.

Velvet touch spreads!
On soft beds slept
Love weds our pair.

I think your kiss
Each I miss now
A remised share.

Hear my sweet dreams
We ride streams down
Fire steams our pair!

Robert J. Lindley, 3-07-2016

Not For Contest.
Added end rhyme as a bonus.....third verse each stanza..
there, care, fair, pair, share, pair .

POETRY FORM- Than-Bauk, 4 syllables per verse, 3 verses per poem.
I wrote mine as a double--never like to be restrained or told to follow limiting rules.
Thus this one is ineligible for the contest I wrote it for.
No disrespect but too bad the sponsor decided they did not want to read longer poems. -Tyr

goodbye, sweet day

Magenta sky
     shines at twilight
as I ponder
how the sun glows
      though night flows in!

Dusk grows colder. . .

A lone gull’s cry
has me sighing
       goodbye, sweet day.

Hoss Race

Long shot prospect
named “Reject Hoss”
bedecked with sweat.

He fell to last
‘till he passed gas
so fast, he flew!

He ran with ease.
At Jockey’s prod,
he squeezed in front!

Forty to one,
odds he won was
pure fun for Hoss.

OH DEAR - DAD'S BEER

Beer dad did pour;
placed on floor but
dad sure full glass

Sis gulped dad’s beer,
Felt so queer… sick
Oh dear, dad’s sad!

Drank dad’s home brew
Age just two, poor
Dad knew - too late!

A true poem about my sister and dad who were visiting his friend Alexis. Dad poured a glass of home brew and put it on the floor - next thing he discovered was my sister had picked it up and drank it all! She was pretty sick and mum was very cross!

The Project

The Project

Son's science quest,
insect nest finds;
school's best project.

Saves in his room.
Wakes to doom when
with gloom, he cries.

Hundreds now crawl.
Every wall sports
hatched small mantes.

My Human Folly

We will all die
So we cry loud
And try for thought.

Wrong lane, wrong way.
Death delay, pray.
Cars stray and honk.

Oh, please, cars – clear.
Turns appear soon,
I steer, we cheer.

Breast Cancer

Youthful temptress, aging oracle,
Nymph-like debacle, Gorgon spectacle,
Retreat from retribution’s precipice,
And a transient victory wrought by avarice,
To listen to a parable
Devoid of the empirical.

Several centuries ago in the land of the Saracen,
You were born to a tribe called the Bedouin.
Clad in hijab to protect you from knowledge that is carnal or ecstatic,
Your elders were quite emphatic
In their desire to imbue you with virtue
In languages derived from Aramaic.
Rules were enforced by the prevailing patriarchy,
Who were keenly aware of lust in the presence of your budding sexuality.

Nature’s sculpting of your cherubic form
Into a Circe with Djim-curved breasts
Straining against material meant to cocoon a figure otherwise ethereal,
Did little to maintain the moral norm.
Codes of the West and codes of the East,
Dictated restriction or punishment for unleashing a Beast
Called unrestrained passion, robbing Man of reason,
Paralyzing Zeus with snake-like tendrils spewing poison and hissin’,
Only the strength of family kept you safe from the abyss
And the sword of Perseus,
Albeit temporarily.

In the ensuing years
Your inevitable rebellion as an uncontrollable hellion,
Sent you scurrying in a soulless desert from the puritanical to the heretical,
Falling for a secular encyclical
Promoting the hype of the perfect male archetype.
The rush of intellect combined with tingling nerves and tissue erect,
Anesthetized your senses
And blinded you to fragile mental fences,
Especially your own…

Now, in your twilight years,
Forced to face your deepest fears,
You gaze into a mirror,
To inspect Aphrodite with a wrinkled body all-a-quiver,
Sagging breasts with shriveled aureoles publicly wrapped in fashionable frills-
Fatty tissue feted by paramours over whom you once held sway,
Rose-tinted nipples electrically bonded to Venus’ mound in her heyday,
Now drooped untouched below a proud visage lined with pain
And experience in surviving life’s interference.

As you caress your naked loneliness,
And pause to touch a cancerous mass,
In life-giving organs soon to be disfigured by modern medicine,
In its quest to heal every lesion,
Your heart yearns for a cloak to shield your fading womanhood.
But inevitably you muster the strength,
To find your own identity and carry on the fight,
To any length, even to death’s finality,
For you are now fearless
And ready to show your true beauty and grace in the face of adversity.
