Feeling like a lodger
In my own home
Thankful for my music
And my new found roam
Families and communities
They are just so hard to find
But in April 2009
I found the most precious kind
I found the name amusing
So the button i clicked on to see
The layout was very inviting
Like an open door should be
For in a matter of minutes
On first uploading a poem
This Highlander was content
He had found a welcome home
So many lovely writers
Poets who share their bless
No longer this Scotsman is
The Man in the Wilderness
As the trials of life come and go
Accept there blessings into your soul
Let them become without a doubt
A model of what you're all about
Don't let them get you all depressed
All things in life need be addressed
Let your spirit be like the wind
Your unseen dearest friend
As I see the lines in my face
Each a reminder of certain place
Do I wish they would go away?
Or that my hair wasn't turning grey
I have no desire to regain youth
For I have learned to speak my truth
When I was young I was so lost
I let my soul pay the cost
Running hard against the grain
Using drugs to kill the pain
Now I feel each and every day
Use the Lord to take the pain away
Do what I can accepting what I get
Treasure blessings that come of it
Thank the Lord through the poems I pray
Use what I need give the rest away
I seem to be driven by a single goal
Can you feel my heart and soul?
I slice them open in hopes they will bleed
Something that someone might need
The single fear I know so well
The fear that my words will fail
So once again I face my fear
As I write I shed my tears
Because these words are spoken true
My heart belongs to all of you
And through it's love I hope to show
We all share a single soul
A soul that is bound by love
Given us by the Lord above
I don’t care if you have a degree
or that your self-published textbook
is a decree to take a closer look
at time-tested, armor plated antiquities.
I don’t care if you know your stuff,
fluffing your sleek, interlocked lines
and keeping things just so, just so
in ascot wearing, dandy rhymes.
I don’t care if you can recite
the Mikado in its entirety,
as you pose in the spotlight,
Yum-Yum for all posterity.
I care about the longing
that I found in the verse
of a friend, words filled with whys
that scattered a soft, rainy season
to the oblivious winds.
I care about the heart
that became a puzzle, tiny pieces,
a thousand tiny pieces calling
out for me to reassemble,
winged things both soaring
then suddenly falling like
art that almost trembled
in gentle riddles crafted to tease.
I care about the grip
that held the pen and how the paper
became damp and creased
as thoughts played in short stanzas,
tethered to honesty,
such a rare and noble quality,
even on the pages of poetry.
I care that caring is vanishing
like stone angels in cemeteries,
conversations on park benches or
the respect for ones peers:
those that dot their teary i’s,
those that shiver in life's trenches,
those that scry with ink, language seers.
They ask so little in return,
Only the freedom to search for truth,
in their own voice, in their own time,
and safety from condemnation,
ruthless lies and snobbery.
I care about a forgotten virtue.
I care about decency.
And I walk
across numerical figments
speaking hyperbole dialect to their imaginations.
Numb, blocky gaps
whisper invitation to secret club.
Enticing my stature
to become exponent’s side-kick.
So they can welcome me with open arms.
Coating my digits with inoperable tumors
double-knotted in hot pink laced bow
and baby-breath scent.
They even left a Walmart Rollback smiley face sticker
with crack residue on right cheek
and a comic-style bubble caption, “welcome home puppet”.
This is exactly how Mother 1 told me it would be.
Kinda like marriage,
but less detail-oriented.
But, I could never fit in.
For I am neither positive
about their (cult) ural ways.
Timing would always be off.
An arm from the clock that suffered a stroke at Midnight…
They’d never understand,
how they’d alter this unevenly, odd numerical figment.
For they’ll just calculate,
my sum with rusty protractor.
This Zero, into a fraction...

This pledge that l,Ntando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed l am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only lie
in word alone but in action as well.
For that reason in every season
I shall show steadfast commitment
to the implementation of this pledge
with a great deal of astuteness.
I therefore commit myself to be your
devoted and delivering husband for
all the years l shall live with you
on this earth.
I shall treat you with the love and care
you deserve as my wife.
Indeed l shall treat you with
the distinction and dignity
that is befitting of the queen of my heart.
That body, that bone, that breath
shall be my mine to treasure,
a dearness to promote and protect
for dear life…and love!
I shall stand by and with you in all the
situations of our life.
If the situation demands that we sail,
sail we shall together.
If the situation demands that we
climb we shall together.
I know very well what l am getting into:
I am getting into a marriage that is
overflowing with blessings.
This marriage- with our mutual
will stand the test of time.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
brims over with a transforming power
This marriage-with our
mutual commitment –
will transform naivety into maturity
troubles into challenges
pretence into practice
pride into progress
bachelorship into companionship.
I pledge to be your steward and partner
for all times.
I shall value the consultations
and decisions that we make as
husband and wife.
As head of the family I shall do nothing
to derail our love train for anything else
least of all for personal and selfish reasons.
Now and forever
I am your lawful and loving husband…
This pledge that l, Nothando, make today serves
as my guideline that I shall follow
happily, ungrudgingly and tirelessly
for the sake of our love life.
Indeed I am well aware of the fact that
the beauty of this pledge does not only
lie in pronouncements but in practice
For this reason every season
I shall demonstrate untiring love
and loyalty to you;
a love and a loyalty that is a living
embodiment of our marriage vows.
I therefore commit myself to be your
honouring, supportive and loving wife
for all the years l shall live with you.
I shall treat you with the love and care
that you deserve as my husband.
Indeed I shall treat you with
the dignity and nobility that is befitting
of the king of my heart.
On my mind it is always fresh
that I am the flesh of your flesh.
Green or grown
I am the bone of your bone.
I know very well what I am getting into:
I am getting into a relationship that
elevates me into a kingdom of wifehood.
I shall endevour to put my family first
with all the rights, obligations
and privileges that come with wifehood.
I shall endevour to wipe off and ward off
loneliness and lostness from our relationship,
seeking nothing but your companionship;
banking on your stewardship,
sinking together any hardship.
Since you are mine
I shall not do anything else to undermine
our relationship for personal
Now and forever
I am your lawful and loving wife…
While doing my daily internet loop
I read some poems at Poetry Soup
Some souls were bared
By a wonderfully talented group
So many unknowns are gathered together
Brandishing their talents without a tether
From gifted quills
Flocking together like birds of a feather
Whether mundane or totally bizarre
Through words they express just who they are
Some young, some old
Some shy, some bold
Each as marvelous as a shooting star
To the nameless owners of this great site
Thank you for giving our poetry flight
No longer adrift
Because of your gift
You are the beacon that brings us to light
A poetry convention is a wow
Our writes we endeavour to plough
We'll meet so many friends
To enhance writing trends
Our strengths are as thick as the bough
To my table I have decided to seat
Three ladies whom I'd so love to meet
They are favourites of mine
And they will be for some time
Their poetry to read is my treat
The first lady to seat is a gem
Her novels just shine from her pen
She's a New Jersey girl
Who makes my heart twirl
Her poetry flows 'tres bien'
The second lady to sit at my table
If given the chance, I'd surely enable
She's Maltese, she's Celene
A Mediterranean Queen
Her name would be beautifully labelled
The third lady who I now show to her chair
Her writing just makes me openly stare
It's oozes life's desire
It makes me aspire
Table Top Mountain, I wish I was there
<*> Not for any contest, but I thank Michael for the idea, ty <*>
Thank you Carolyn Devonshire, Celene Crescent & Wilma Neels for being you,xxx

Smiles light my eyes as I think of them,
I see them as my Soup waves~
they come and go, they go and come,
these people who've lit up my visits here
Some of them fleeting, some of them lasting,
those moments instilled in me forever...I hope they wave hello
She is the epitome of substance and class,
a Huge honor for me to call her friend
She's the ever graceful angel,
with her beautiful poetry, with her thoughtful actions
It's always a treat when I see her pass here,
Sweet Shar, thank you so much for always being there!
Another precious gem is she, my friend beyond poetry,
she's been an inspiration even before Soup
Her eloquent poems always touch my heart,
I miss how her memorable verses flow effortlessly...
And even if I only see her once in a blue moon,
Wonderful, caring Sharon, I'm so grateful for your lasting friendship!
She is like me in so many ways, Emilia is such a dear
Her poetry speaks right through me, a deep soul
that swims in an ocean of thoughts and dreams
How I hope this sweet Pisces girl lends flavor back here
In any case, I'm so thankful that I've gotten to know her...
Dearie, poetry hugs us, as I do, te imbratisez!
The charming Charma is also unforgettable,
her sweet and romantic words are always a pleasure to read.
She's someone I've also shared dessert recipes with,
together with hopes, prayers and dreams...
She always leaves wonderful encouraging words
Lovely friend, I'm so thankful for the support you've given me!
and although fleeting, these men have always made me smile...
Ruben, his smile alone can light up the page...
His wise, witty words and ever generous heart
pave the way for memorable poetry that leaves lumps in throats--
I hope you're doing good wherever you are, thank you for fun times!
Mitch, I wonder where he's driving now,
whether someone else has captured his heart?
A talented man who can write poems in a flash,
thank you for the inspiring and kind words, I hope you're doing ok!
Phong, haiku guy in search for the perfect rump...
Makes me think if he ever found a non-jiggly one for his rotisserie
Shame, he was here only for a short while, but ah, the laughter he elicited
Thanks so much for that, I hope you're dabbling more in free verse poetry!
Hicky, the ever sweet old gentleman with kind words...
his poetry always left me with a sense of wonder and smiles.
How I pray that he's doing good, and that his book writing is doing well,
Thank you my dear Hicky, I sure miss you here!
Poetess she is, whose magic is cast with great ease
Opulent in words, charming to the utmost degrees,
Engraving hisses, silhouettes, images of natures surreal
Trespassing horizons never stretched out to an ideal
Destroyer as known for, although she's here to compose
Enchating poems and songs her beautiful soul bestows
Such a fusion encourages poets to hold their inks and quills
To write 'bout nymphs in seas or orchards filled with daffodils
Rampantly defeated by her as what often happens, except
Of all practiced skilled writers she's definitely the most adept
Yielded in a words-battle having a single acknowledged end
Efficacious "She" is by far a star who can simply transcend,
Reproductions of literary stylistic forms in her magnificent way

I remember the day when comments were the main
They're all very instrumental to the Soup's mainframe
Some comments are influential that created other writes
And many were like tuition that kept us crisp and bright
But there now appears a drought growing larger every day
We need to increase our comments as they help us write our says
Maybe it's time for change, for the Soup to alter it's route
Many foundations have recently left, will others follow suit
The columns showing us the views, tells us nothing at all
How many have clicked on a poem thinking that's a bit of a trawl
So another poem was open and not a word was read
So basically the views are worthless, because comments are our thread
We can learn from our comments but we will never learn from the views
It's our democratic choice for all, of what we do and choose
Nothing stays the same for ever as it appears to be
It's still the worlds best poetry site, that's down to you and me
Writing is my challenge each day
But it's not the words or what to say.
It is the connection with other writers here
Because I feel I'm not worthy or equal I fear.
The talent expressed by so many others
Often makes me want to hide under the covers.
The gems that are written and ones that I read
Are so inspired, personal, and give me a need.
That's why I come here every time
To see what others have put in their rhyme.
Carolyn always has a message for me to ponder
And others write things that make me wonder.
I often race to the "New Poems" just to see
If by some chance there's one by which P.D has destroyed me.
And Carol, Bob, Nick, Emily, Wilma, and "the Sweetheart"
Write things that sometimes I just can't pull apart.
The Doc has written so many things
I am amazed sometimes at the thoughts he brings.
Others are here who write so well
Their words do me so oft compel.
For like unto them I want to be
Writing words that have meaning for others to see.
Will they be worthy I say when I'm done
Or will they be read by others, as I've intentioned.
You know I feel so many emotions just now
Because of all these writers, I just don't know how.
For they are a driving force for me
And part of my challenge each day is to make them see.
That because of them I have to write
Sometimes into the wee hours of the night.
To pick a favorite writer is...well a difficult choice
So I pick them all, because they shout with one voice.
"Write, you fool, then write some more"
Words I hear and cannot ignore.
So I choose them all...all here in this group
The ones who have made me hungry for Soup.
There, I've said it...and you know that's not in haste
The Soupers that are here are the best of all to taste.
To the happy lady behind those black shades,
I dedicate my poem as an exchange gift
for her incredible kindness and gracious wit...
even her words amaze the youngest lads!
Since her work was featured on Poetry Soup years ago,
I've become her admirer, and avidly read every poem she writes
with the passion and aspiration of a true poetess who immensely delights;
and doesn't she always capture the reader's attention with her unselfish ego?
Many are the dreams she has...as we all do for another laud,
and from her insightful thoughts written with refined style;
who wouldn't be her loyal fan and often drop her a line?
Read all of her poems and feel what makes her proud!
Sweet and lovely friend, accept my dedication
and add this name to the memoirs of your ambition;
sincere and kind friend, isn't honor the greatest joy
when someone such as me praises you as Helen of Troy?
If I were to take your hand
And ask you to dance
By the light of the moon
Would you take a chance
You know I am just a dreamer
Or so it would seem
For there is nothing I won't do
In search of my dream
To me a dream is but a story
Waiting to be told
And as a poet writes their dream
They try to break the mold
So as you dance across your dream
Trying to get it right
Close your eyes and drift away
Dance with me tonight
As we dance across the floor
Know my words are true
I have answered all my dreams
Just by holding you
Poets sharing their hearts and souls
Openly and honestly with each other
Expressing their deepest feelings
Truly understanding and caring
Rights of others shall be respected
Yearning to offer everything we can
So much variety, the spice of life
Opens many doors of knowledge
Understanding others views on life
Provides us with each others blessings
You know not a day goes by that I
don't feel like I should do more to
show you all how important you are
to me. I love you all and I'm not
ashamed to say when your poems
are sad I cry, when their happy I
laugh and when they teach I learn.
"Provides us with each others blessings"
Thats what the soup is! Thank you
"Team Poetry Soup", Michael
Ask me not for which I write
I simply wish to share my plight
Searching for answers, one little clue
I don’t understand the things that I do
I reckon I lost it somewhere in a tear
Shed over someone that I hold dear
But how can I find it, where did it go?
I think its hiding somewhere in the flow
The flow seems as natural as it can be
My own special way of dealing with me
The thing about writing is that I love to learn
Somewhere along the way we all get our turn
Our turn is crucial and there’s no going back
I swear, I could get lost on a small oval track
I reckon that’s the thing I love about our site
I shall never get lost, not as long as I write
To me writing is not just joy it is also a key
That opens the door and then sets my soul free
“Billy Shears” was a pseudonym for Ringo.
He was the drummer for the Fab Four as you would know.
The Sergeant Pepper album for this group went far.
Vocals for the second track were supplied by Mr. Starr.
“With a Little Help From My Friends” had a good sound.
On the back of the album cover, the lyrics could be found.
Inspiration for writing comes in a stream and never ends.
I get my ideas with a little help from my friends.
I read their words and stand in awe
Poetic words that have no flaw
For an old sailor who has seen his day
These ladies still take my breath away
They write with passion and hearts of gold
And as they write, new worlds unfold
Their legacy will be carved in stone
Each has a style all their own
I read each word and dwell on each line
On a dreary day, they make the sun shine
I sit at my computer as another day closes
I feel like a thorn in a bouquet of roses.
Like candy for strangers
on Halloween night
she ties up her sweet words
in wrappers of light
Expressions of happiness
laced with a thought
of poignant remembrance
of childhood she caught
from reading your life
as you wrote it all out
in peppermint sparkles
and chocolate doubt.
holding her apron,
she captures the fall
of every confection
and rewraps them all
in yummy new sprinkles
with strawberry swirls,
she flavors the taste
for the rest of the world.

I have entered many poetry contests
to display my best...an amazing number of sixty or more,
only one of my poems has won first place;
poets are like enduring athletes who fight to the very core!
One big hurray goes to myself for the first win,
congratulations to the other participants
who are on the top of that list, or have been
awarded Honorable Mentions for their efforts!
When my poem doesn't make it to the finalists's list,
I don't feel discouraged, I brazen out the doubt and try again;
even Lance Armstrong, with his skills, can't always win his race,
and the trophy must be given to someone else!
I rejoice when some of the chosen poets appear
on the winners' list; I am happy for their accomplishment,
and into a word-restricted message's box I gladly comment
on their poetry...with the insight of an achiever!
And for those whose names never made it as previously thought,
I honestly tell you, from experience, not to be a bit discouraged...
your time will come when your enthusiasm will require a big shout;
never put the word, " Winner " to rest, write for fun and persist instead!
