A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as the clouds dip into the sea.
A kiss from that rose as the waves fall,
over the beach to a rose kissed me.
A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as we wrap in lovers embrace.
A kiss from a rose as homeward we go,
to a bed clothed in satin and lace.
A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
with passion and warmth do we grasp.
A kiss from that rose that blossoms and blooms,
my hand in her labour pain clasp.
A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
that wanton and curvy young bride.
A kiss from that rose that huddles our babe,
so loving, in motherly pride.
A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
without whom I'd not share my life.
A kiss from that rose who selflessly filled,
the place of my darling rose wife!

Of the many stars I have seen,
Justin, you are by far the most exquisite
I love how you just mold into my heart,
Sifting the words we share part by part,
Lighting the path to inspiration,
Attaining your lightning connotation
I love how you relate to my struggles,
Allowing my feet to rest on your gentle wings,
How your loving eyes look in-between the lines,
To see inside such poetry, the divine intertwine
You do not waste your time in the sky,
Rising every moment in your heightening knowledge
You burn brighter for what matters
You hold tighter to the light with gladness,
And you are not afraid in the prowling wilderness
You are never afraid to express your genius
Long ago, I had wandered in the haze of many a soul
Closed and withdrawn in the strolls of dark foes
In your luminous presence, you awakened this dreamer
My eyes widening in the unity of word-weavers
To access your bloom was to shatter all doom
And in awe, I aspired to be a part of you
I love that you care of my virtues,
How you give and give tremendously
How we understand each other in synchronizing energy out of this world
I love that you will feel my heart, as I do yours
I will love these truths forevermore
A tribute to this burning star is never enough
You have inspired me beyond what I can see
Beyond what dreams a dreamer be
And for that, I must thank you,
As you persevere in your incomparable brightness
To illuminate my path, and our paths,
Into the extraordinary, eternal unearthing of fate, fervor and fortune

Just a girl in a room, sitting on the floor,
I can see her in this window, but I see no door
Crying her song of anguish, of this unspeakable pain,
Has every intention never to feel it again
I rock, I tremble, my life is at cost
All I know is this shell, for it's myself...my core...my all I have lost
From the start I new this fight could only last so long,
I aimed to defeat it, striving to remain strong
Each day in and day out, facing the demon, fighting the doubt
At a moment with no warning, without any clue
I was losing my strength...my energy...all the will I once knew
For now, my all is lost, my memories are faint,
There is no pretty picture left for me to paint
This girl on the floor, in this empty room
Was this girl condemned for a life of doom
My tears disappeared, like they'd never been there
Dried up with my soul, the time is clear
Wanting to shake her, make her open her eyes
To show some hope, the blue is still in the skies
Then, out of nowhere, I found the door
I wanted to save the girl on the floor
As I neared and inched to her close
She wasn't that girl, what I saw was a ghost
As I turned to walk out, stopped by a noise
I heard the laughter of girls and of boys
With that came a voice of peace and of grace
She told me, she's happy, no-more demon for her to face
I am calmed, I'm reassured, I'm no longer in pain
She was the broken me, but now I am strong again

Ode to a Desert Rose
Hiding in her desert place
There lives a desert rose
Not much water little rain
Yet on and on she goes...
Day to day she shows her face
To those who can not see
All her beauty hides the pain
And tears that set her free...
Still there's One who shed His grace
Upon this desert rose
Always with her shall remain
Because her heart He knows.

Pulled himself to the very top
Looked over the world on high
Felt the warm and stirring breeze
falling from the sky
Knowing this was how it felt
to soar above the land
To feel so safe away from things
so free to be alive
Yet down the pole we all must come
to touch the very ground
This is where we laugh and play
gives us what we need
The loving smile of a young girl's face
a women's tender care
For up above the pole to fly
is nothing but the air
But on the soil we grow and live
to reach out, to touch, to give
So keep your feet upon the ground
take a good long look around
and see if flying above the pole
isn't like living in a hole
from where you never see
the reaching hands pulling you down
pulling you down to be

The ladder backed pecker,
like a prison uniform.
Caught-up in exposing
the truth beneath the bark,
of the poet's apple tree.
We prefer ourself in spring;
with tiny little flowers,
and the fruit of possibility.
Yet, if not for the woodpecker,
tapping holes into poems,
we might not ever see
the flesh and blood of raw meat.
I will climb that ladder back,
escape pre-decreed standards.
Tap into that syrupy mixture
and suck-out truth from hard wood.
Yes, lessons from a jail bird.
A pest in the Avian Kingdom.
Wisdom from the little rebel,
beat-out of a tree.

I am woman,
I am Woman,
I am Woman,
I am Woman,
Fear me because I am:
Pretty, sassy, smart, independent!
Fear me because these things
Are a danger mix and explosive combination
Fear me because one day
You'll have to answer to me.
Fear me because soon you'll look up
For advice and I'll be the face there.
Fear me because to you
Women should have no power.
Fear me because to me
I will have more power than you.
I am a woman,
I am a Woman!

Sobriety is the song I sing
Away from all their life's sting
For I detest surrounded minds
Hate their witnessed shame
Acting as though they are lame
Sobriety is the whistle I blow,
To cool their inebriated thoughts,
Whether fast or just slow
I teach them the right path to crawl,
So to avoid the brawl
Sobriety is the story I tell,
Scalpel in hand below the light above,
To the coated who wish to serve,
And not their steadiness to sell,
If they need to go deep and safely out
Sobriety is the letter I write,
To the young and blind,
Before their eyes they do unfold,
to see what waits ahead,
Lest their future they grind
Sobriety is the air I breath,
Into the nostrils of they
They who know not the way,
Who had lost but the brightness of their day
Who had nothing to say

FIRE IS COMING!
FIRE IS COMING!
GET PREPARED,THE BRIDE GROOM IS COMING
THE BRIDE GROOM IS COMING
FIRE IS COMING!
THE TRUMPET SHALL SOUND
GOD CHOSE THE LIGHT'S HE HAVE FOUND
THOSE WHO ENDURED THIS LIFE SHALL BE CROWNED
FOR THE DISOBEDIENT WILL BE LEFT BEHIND
TAKEN CAPTIVE BY THE ENEMIES MIND
ALTHOUGH,FEW SHALL REMAIN
HIS MERCY STILL REMAINS THE SAME
A REMNANT STRONG ENOUGH TO ENDURE

Our first image of a gorgeous black Aphrodite
To inhabit the halls of power with charm,
Mrs. Obama moves over the sacred fields deftly
Reclaiming the realm with femininine form.
Sensuously challenging those who dare deny
Her right to bare her bronze sun-kissed skin
As the queen in a staid pallid white world,
She assumes her role with no hint of giving in.
A worthy image of beauty to accompany a giant of a man,
Mrs. Obama came riding eastward her sword at her side.
She planned for an agenda about change most would scorn,
As a product of northern honing oil and heartland pride.
And she feared not the hard and awful destiny ahead
For a beautiful black woman in a loveless town;
As she brought her fashion for elegance and flair,
Allowing a gawking world to see her face was brown.
As a Capricorn, Mrs. O keeps her keen focus on success,
Never surrendering to impatience, doubt or hesitation.
Her aim is narrow and exact, skillfully chosen
And moored on a carefully thought out foundation.
So doing she has inspired black women to reach higher
And see themselves as lovely creatures of great worth,
Endowed by God to motivate, teach, feed and entertain,
With her nurturing, an emerging color diverse earth.

Alms Inn, there is the place again, and here
I, far away, muse in the house I grew
O this village of my love, has grown too
The golden hills with lilacs filled, the sweet
Soft of morning dew, and my dusty feet
Leaving his brighter sun for school and care
Whilst he with poetic dreams filled the air
And orange blossoms buzz with fragrance fair
And O, orange blossoms buzz when
In my mind I hear his voice again.
Father, fragile though festive fold of hills
Where drought walks dissonant on dribbled dreams
Your memory abides here still, and bright streams
Of laughter where you paced or sat unveiling
History and poetry and farmed feeling
Of the world. Like a nightingale's voice spills
Through the village gate, sublime as sacred thrills
The organ dissipates, and crannies fills
With thy deep eloquence and pride
And thy wide eyed child by your side.
Regal of an African line, birth low
Amidst the Maroon bramble, up you came
Out of the German mire of blood, a flame
Carrying bushman and midwife through night
The falcon feathered for the frolic of flight
Over foreign spires, in the bright rainbow
Father, still your footsteps that path does show
Mud deep, bright towards the future we go
Athlete, scholar, tempest and mist
Man above men will foes insist
And I today churn in praise my new lines
Waking like a womb of fresh beginnings
A virgin voyage of my form, deep gleanings
Of the mind's creativity. I bring
It, tribute to you, blush before my king
For whose awesome form my love matchless pines
Seeking your worth in joys of new designs
To carve your honor on our human minds
First of our black place to unfold
Upon white space petals of gold.
This proud veterinarian, this wave
That pulse across the Caribbean's shores
This first in rank in all the shackled chores
This noble patron of the arts, this child
Of business, that upward through nights here toiled
To say I am free, stir now gloomy grave
You shall not hold him forever a slave
When jubilee comes, and our God shall save
For of all the joys that is known
He loved his God, and grace was shown
Time and us are leashed memories
With time I tell love's true stories
And so its oft, when love in fancy strays
I to Alms Inn, where my boyhood still plays
In St. Elizabeth, behind the brimmed drays
Here in white pattern of dust I reclaim
The glory of my father, all my name
For we are nothing who have no past, sir
No identity the shard soul to stir
Shorn from the traditions of father's ways.

A tribute to a wonderful friend who was taken from us by cancer.
She Had Wings
SHE HAD WINGS, SHE COULD LIFT US UP
WHEN OUR WORLD SEEMED TOO HEAVY
WINGS OF LOVE, ALWAYS OPEN WIDE
TO SOOTHE A WOUNDED SOUL
THOUGH SORROW FILLS OUR HEARTS, REJOICE THAT
GOD HAS FILLED HIS PROMISE
AND ANGELS HAVE A ROOM NEXT TO HIS THRONE
YOU SEE, SHE WAS NEVER OURS TO CALL OUR OWN
SHE HAD WINGS, AND NOW SHE’S FLYING HOME

I never met Grandpa
so I do not know
if he ever went dancing
or stubbed his toe.
But I do know
Grandma loved him.
And Grandma died
when was in 8th grade.
So we didn't talk
I am afraid.
But I do know
Grandpa loved her.

Loveliness that's deep and that's rare
is like a rose that blooms afresh
(like the rosebud that's new and fair);
lovely in aspect and in flesh,
it lives in sunlight without care
letting all the sky breathe and mesh.
Its loveliness is hard to find
unspoiled and as innocent;
and with its tint and with its rind
it quells my musing discontent.
As it sighs (softly and from behind),
my nose takes in its lovely scent.
Its beauty transcends its locus,
imbuing the eyes of my soul
with romantic, ideal focus
that makes the heart and the mind whole:
without it the world seems callous
and grace would not be in control.

Rain drops pounding upon my window pane,
Oh joy! Not the foreboding sound of gloom.
The sun blotted from the sky by gray rain
bringing harmony and flowering blooms.
I hear the distant sky's waning thunder.
The catharsis of mother earth's womb shares
the joys of rebirth in the winds chorus
with the sound of wonder.
In the warmth of my home, my soul declares;
the rain has come to relieve me from stress.
Shall I take a sweet nap or lose control?
In my flannel pajamas, I delight
in quiet time alone, feeding my soul.
First, sleep with dreams, love caressed in starlight.
Hand-in-hand, a stroll under silver moon.
Awakened by a gentle kiss to spark
feelings stolen by my mundane routines.
With flower petals strewn,
moistened blooms beckon me out to the park
to skip and splash like a child in blue jeans.
Rain still pours from the sky as I reach home
for a matinee, Singin' in the Rain.
Cozy with hot tea, no more need to roam.
Warm, content feelings, I cannot contain.
Gene Kelly inspires me to leave my bed
dancing through my house with full abandon.
Music plays loudly, I'm liberated.
A gray day turns bright red.
As I dance, ducks splash outside on my lawn.
My tired body feels rejuvenated

Some say I'm arrogant, the rest say I'm cocky,
But the funniest thing is that no one said it right to me,
They talk behind my back like it has at least one ear,
And as soon as I turn around they all disappear,
Its just my confidence, is there something wrong,
Well if yes the wrongs make me very strong,
I'm just being me, impersonating myself,
Too bad you can't be me, the copier is high on the top shelf,
I’m high on my pedestal, high on my own stool,
Looking down at you all, you all my students welcome to my school,
To be like me you have to keep a straight A average,
Doing extra credit just to get some leverage,
I isolate myself from all you fake people,
Solitary confinement, as I strengthen and you weaken,
All you want to be is fly with some huge swag,
Where's my fly swatter? Oh its right here in my bag,
Just sit and watch as I SWAT all you flies,
Special Weapons And Tactics, then everyone dies,
They say only monkeys are cute, then call me the ape,
Roaming through the jungle to find my female primate,
As I look in my palm, there I see the world,
Then I scan through it all to find the perfect girl,
I search the globe to find her, I wasted my time,
When there she was under my nose, now she's mine,
She's at my level, and we all know that's far,
And I'll search the world again to find you, where ever you are......

Whenever tears roll down
and whether it brings joy, reward or pain:
it matters to someone
whose life, somehow, has broken him down,
or has lifted him up through grace;
it matters when one rejoices,
and sees in victory
what his bewildered eyes
couldn't ever have imagined it to be...
He chose the path to glory
without harboring suspicions,
or being frightened by unseen woes
and hard-and fast rules;
he made swift choices
and built up his courage from nothing;
and what his fearless mind couldn't perceive,
wasn't so impossible to dream,
but surely achieved
through grit and indisputable duty...
Whatever that solemn oath
relied on a certain promise, he never lost heart,
because his valor never seemed to lessen a bit;
and he was taken above and beyond his fears
by not foreseeing any disheartening defeat:
confidence had given his untiring feet a steady beat...
It matters to someone to be recognized,
and cherish that moment of gladness:
perhaps the only moment to be remembered
and be locked away in his past;
a brave soldier at his best,
never settling for anything less,
always going above and beyond his expectations,
to honor and safeguard the Country that he loves...

I do not know?
Sunrise, Oh aural hymn of spirituality,
Vibrant in it’s splendour and magnificence,
Sending nocturnes to daytime slumber,
Bathing life to a yawning earth.
Piercing the day’s birth with colours and hue,
The Master’s tableau, a glorious canvas,
Fiery paints, swirling strokes and defiant beauty
The bright facet of the world’s axial turn.
It evokes and invokes, feelings and awe.
Praises and raises, creation and spirits,
Vilifies and nullifies, sadness and hopelessness,
Resigns and consigns, acceptance and trepidation.
Strand by strand, it runs through the hair,
Pore to pore, it caresses the skin,
Squint by squint, it opens the eyes,
Every brightness warms a weary heart.
It bridges valleys and flattens peaks,
Resurrects death and ends horizons,
Humbles the great and strengthens the weak,
With its rays, its light, its kiss.
We are but an audience, paler and drabber,
Casting pathetic lines of self importance,
Feeble in our attempts and underneath its shadow,
For its languid phase is our mortal eternity.
When we are dust, entwined to life in death,
Ethereal and eternal and constant the sun remains.
Bathing life to a yawning earth.

An Evening with Emily
I spent an evening with Emily
(Dickinson, you know)
I told her she was my idol
Her words had touched me so
So simple were her musings
Written deeply from her soul
Each thought struck like lightning
And had the power to console
She wrote of life and love
As though she lived them to the full
In truth, she rarely left her room
Yet her words were powerful
She didn’t need to travel far
To smell the sea and air
She closed her eyes and summoned them
From the confines of her chair
She wrote of death as calmly
As she wrote of birds and sky
Describing her last journey
In a chariot stopping b
Although she died a lonely life
And never let the world intrude
For Constance Dear Heart's contest - The Passionate Poet
Oh, what a lovely legacy she left
From that world of solitude

...a darling dear of time is when the tick-tock, of the clock stops, during a dancing wind chimes rendition of just how invisible things move me, to write, darling dear a rhyme,
the peak of a mountain top experiencing,
O' darling dear
a love letter,
just one of those things that
of the everlasting.

There are moments I still wonder why.
Question everything I gave, and every action
I blamed myself for you not wanting to try
But came to realize you never gave a fraction.
I bled my heart out for you
Cut even when the scar would heal
The wound in love was cruel
Hope in selfishness you chose to steal
You found me in a thousand bits
Picking them up one at time
Instead of glue it was a temporary fix
To make the shattering affect more define
Now that the tears have all fallen
I promise you only of this
Your face I will have forgotten
But mine will haunt your every first kiss

Oh how can one capture
Your beauty on paper
Without you evaporating
Off as it is your nature
The stars are your jewels
The moon is your crest
As if blessed
Your silence is serenity
That whisper to my thoughts
An overwhelming beauty
That ties my stomach up in knots
How humble I am sound
A beauty incomparable
With a radiance so profound
Your absence is unbearable

It's been awhile since I've had a taste.
A smorgasboard of artistic drug laced,
with passion, purpose,skill, and will,
beautiful with poetic appeal.
It's been awhile since my soul has taken this trip,
aboard these vehicles, our mothership,
that take ahold, of my mind and soul
letting me know, whose got control,
moving me, at the reigns,
of how I feel,
making me laugh, one moment,
another driving me to tears,
all the while I'm standing, or sitting still.
For you I am so thrilled,
to concieve, believe, and feel.
Your mere mental images that you paint,
across my mental landscape,
leaving me feeling faint.
But then like a fix,
I yearn for more,
to even this score.
To the creator,
I give thanks,
for creating you all,
Poets, my brothers and sisters,
in literal signs,
giving this poetic junkie,
your shared words of love,
of the 'ummptenth'

There are so many ways to say I Love You, however it seems more likely for
people to say the hurtful words I Hate You. For so many things to be thankful, still there’s so many times we may appear ungrateful
Appreciate what’s been given, evolve in a life worth living
Overcome struggles be focused continue to stay driven
Do not settle for good enough. Be determined and go through the times of both
the good and the rough
There’s no reason to be surprised know one ever said that Life wasn’t tough
Anyone can achieve their dreams at the highest measure.
It’s just a matter of how hard you work at it even if your starting at the bottom from there things can only get better
Weather the storms throw your burdens upon God he will never steer you wrong.
He’ll never give you more than you can handle. If it seems overwhelming at times then God must know that your strong. Life decisions are split into two parts there should be no gray areas. It’s either this is right or this is wrong
Remember your not benefiting anyone by hiding you emotions in the dark. You’ll
be hurting yourself eventually it will weigh heavy on your heart. In the long run it will end up tearing you apart
To be in love can make a world of difference it will change your daily routines
Everyday that passes by you won’t have the mind frame of It’s all about Me
Relationships built around trust are strong. Relationships built around deception
hardly ever last long. Commitment is the key not only with your love but in friendships as well as with your family
People will come in your life people will go Where you will be in 10 years
knowone really knows. Life’s about the unexpected the passer-by’s the up’s and downs the good the bad the times we laugh along with the times we cry. The questions the answers the times we ask why? The yes’s the no’s the rejections the goals. The beauty the disappointments the high’s and the lows
The losses the gains the continuous cycle of change
Life is what you make it out to be Do for others as you would want done for yourself
Don’t involve yourself in life’s mysteries Each person decides their own destiny
and have written their own history
Cause and effect is the name of the game. You get what you’ve given therefore
you only have yourself to blame
Your life’s a novel made of many characters plots climaxes and themes Don’t
miss opportunities don’t ever give up on your dreams Continue to live life and be
happy because life isn’t as bad as it sometimes may seem
