For Mama

She showed me the clouds
and how to walk on the ninth one. A dreamer.
In the absoluteness of her mind, no barriers
exist within existence
as if her battles have
been won. I think she craves to fly,
past those clouds---another possibility
to make possible, a challenge
to challenge. Or dream about.
She probably thinks that when I complain
I cannot see the clouds,
the way she did when things got rough
in life. Of course, I beg to differ.
She dreams. I live. I don't
keep my eyes on clouds all day
as if there is nothing else to see
to make me understand the world better.
I suppose I'll rest one day, exhausted
by the what-ifs and whys, while Mama smiles
and points upward.

Mother's Bookmark's

My thoughts they roil like waters dark
in the abyss of blackest night,
with memories of mother’s bookmark,
of Longfellow read by lamp light.
She called, in the room around me,
the patter of other small feet.
Her gentle voice fetched angels	.
Oh, the rhymes, they astounded me
like lullabies soft and so sweet.
All fearsome shadows, she’d dispel.

Maxine, my queen, read Tennyson
and the Charge of the Light Brigade.
A little girl dreamt of caissons
roll, and thunderous cannonade.
To be so brave, the small child mused,
mother her precious, heroine;
what would it take to stand so strong
without father, and not confused.
What words could be the linchpin
to right mother’s tell-tale wrong.

Such sad inspiration, mother,
oh, how I wronged you by being born,
though I loved you above all others.
Some thoughts of you make me forlorn.
Bring back the tales of mother goose,
three small kittens and their mittens.
Return the vision of your smile
the happiness your warmth induced,
let your spirit comfort, lighten
night, if only for a little while.

Ode to a rose on a sunset

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as the clouds dip into the sea.
A kiss from that rose as the waves fall,
over the beach to a rose kissed me.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
as we wrap in lovers embrace.
A kiss from a rose as homeward we go,
to a bed clothed in satin and lace.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
with passion and warmth do we grasp.
A kiss from that rose that blossoms and blooms,
my hand in her labour pain clasp.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
that wanton and curvy young bride.
A kiss from that rose that huddles our babe,
so loving, in motherly pride.

A kiss from a rose on a sunset night,
without whom I'd not share my life.
A kiss from that rose who selflessly filled,
the place of my darling rose wife!

ODE TO MY OFFSPRINGS

Thank you for the happiness you bring to me,

A restless life, a sleepless days and never ending chores.

Thank you for the mess you make in our home.

The evidence you showed I'm not alone.

I feel my worth every time I see you smile.

You make things possible in front of my eyes.

I learned the meaning of patience and love.

You gave my life a reason to survive.

I was young, life has just started.

When I first held a hands of an angel.

The utmost emotion that anyone could feel,

A boundless bliss I treasure 'til these eyes rest in peace.

Ode to my son on his 28th birthday

When I looked up at you the other night
I saw you coming through the door
Framing it with your amazing smile
steadfast, self assured, a happy man
A happy Dutch life with Irish sea-kissed roots
Not just a European but a world class man
As you stood before me, I felt such pride.

When I think of you, I see my little boy blue
Forever young, blond mop, those winsome sky eyes
my spry child, intelligent, forever questioning
hyperactive, mischievous, a little dare devil
your smile, a mile wide in times of trouble
I see you holding your teddies Ruby and Rupert
Tractors, diggers, broken engines brrrrrrrmm.

Your love of engines, paid off after all
as you shifted gear to driving instruction
For a guy who showed no interest in being a scholar
Now you are the teacher, with a flurry of pupils
I think it works better, this way around.
Your greatest gift is your love for people
Your greatest asset, your winning smile

Keep on living and loving as you do
You view life through a positive lens
Becoming a mother hit me with a new perspective
An appreciation of life, when I gave you yours
Together we grew, and continue to grow
In love and respect, now and forever.

Ode To Mother

I've seen a face with a thousand flowers
With eyes as pure as the dew
A happy face in my relaxing hours
With a heart thats pure and true.

The loveliest thing is to be loved by you
For you're the greatest love of all
You're the moonlit sea on the starry blue
That stirs me on to stand tall.

In you I've found that precious friend
Rare a pearl in this darksome world
Comfort sweet when stuck in the den
From a loving heart as pure as gold.

So thanks my love, for being you
That sacred royal blossom
Words can never express,my love so true
My friend,my dearest mom.

My Mother

The day I was unwrapped. JAN. 27 1995. I
was named Landon and as I cried heard
your voice and looked into your eyes I was
pronounced as your son, and you as my
mother. From the very day I took my first
steps. From the very moment I took my
first steps. I was a son walking to his
mother my mother. The day I realized that
you were also both mother and father.
That day you was pronounced a strong
leader, my mother. Picturing you as a
mama bear raising two cubs. Wandering
through the world protecting us making
not any sneaky wolves snatch us up. Not
only you was my mother, you was an
protector, our guardian angel haha, my
mother. Those days where I was taught
something about not always having to
fight and those days where that belt was
on my mind and it always keep it right.
And to always to hold on to my dreams
and my wishes and that I don't need to
spit game to get all the girls attention. I
looked you as a teacher, my mother.
Those days where you had told me
improve on things and get better on the
little things. I use to hate that but also
looked at you as my coach, my mother.
Days where we decorated the Xmas tree. I
will never forget those things that you got
from me. All those special days I looked
you as my Santa haha, my mother. Their
were also days of frustration. And their
were so many times where we went at. If
arguments were drugs we were attics.
Frustration to anger. Anger to sadness.
Sadness turned to apologies. Because I
knew no matter what you loved me
unconditionally. Because you were my
mother. This poem I wrote for you was in
the walls in my brain but it was in the cells
in my heart. And no other women could
tear our love apart because I love you, my
mother. And a reminder to all the single
mothers. Don't let the stress and the panic
drown you and take you under.
Regardless if you a black single mother,
white single mother, Mexican single
mother,
Asian single, don't let the stress and panic
consume you and take you over. Because
I don't regret the day I was named Landon
and God never promised us an easy life
but he did promised us a safe landing
haha. May your daughters look at you as
queens and they are the princess and give
her an example on how a strong woman
should be. To all single parents I salute
you. And to my mother unwrap my gift I
have for you. I love you my mother. Merry
Christmas

TO MY DEAREST MAMA

Thank you for being the greatest mom to us.
For all the patience and love that you gave.
All those sleepless nights when we were kids.
For sending me to school, until putting a medal on my neck.
I hope I gave you pride to all those years.
I know, Mama though you're not speaking.
I can see the weakness from those eyes.
Please forgive me when I made you cry.
I've been a foolish, I made mistake.
I failed to finish my studies and reach my dreams.
Eventhough I fall, you still lend me your hand.
Helping me to stand and save me from the ground.
I remember one day,when I became a mom.
You were there beside me, and hear my baby's cry.
I saw the tears from your eyes, saying these words to me.
"My daughter, you have paid all the things you owe from me."
Now that we're both moms, you never left me.
You were there on my trouble, reminding me to be strong.
The one whom I caved in, a wings cover me in storm.
Mama, how can I repay you for all the good things that you've done?
I promise to take care of you now 'til the twilight of your time.
And be a mother to my children the same thing as you did.
Thank you, Mama...I'll stand strong for you and my kids.

Sand Storm

We will finish this Task

Come what may

Wasting away the beauty of our day

A dark cloud of contempt

Winds of lies in the air

Lightening beating our souls bare

Where is the Sorrow

Is Their any Empathy at all

To Author this Storm

Is beyond comprehension

 An....Yes.....

Dust can only Fall........

CHUBBY LITTLE GIRL: Ode to Bria Samone

I love her joyful smile, her hair in
curls.
A plump round face with chocolate
on her nose,
for she's her mamas' chubby little
girl.

What better gift for me in all the
world,
wrapped in pink with lace and
purple bows?
I love her joyful smile, her hair in
curls.

Brown stains caress her mouth in
one great swirl,
with a drop or two I saw upon her
toes.
For she's her mamas' chubby little
girl.

"I made a cake for you" she says,
the whirls
around the room before she strikes
a pose.
I love her joyful smile, her hair in
curls.

"A cake for me?" I ask the precious
pearl,
I touch her sticky face and spotted
clothes.
She'll always be my chubby baby
girl.

Hand in hand around the room we
twirl,
when we stop, I laugh and pull her
close.
I love her joyful smile, her hair in
curls.
For she's her mamas' chubby little
girl.

Angels

On the wings of two angles I was brought into this world…
My mother and father I’ve called them since I first spoke,

To their arms I ran when I first walked…

When my heart was not calm

Their love would come…

When no one believed
They saw what others couldn’t see
When I would cry
With a calm sigh they would smile
And the whole world would stop and the pain would die…
They taught me to not lie…
They taught me to be human…
On the wings of two angels I was brought into this world…
My mother…her beauty puts the stars to shame….
My father…his heart stronger than all the men that walk among us…

I thank my lord for giving me
The biggest treasure on this world,
Love that is clearly out of this world…
Thank you…

A mother lover's Ode

smoother than most, all moving no boast, shooting a moon to toast, to our beautiful host
revolving no doors, just opportunities score marking the entrance ways pores
balance implored
fracking a lack of communication crashing breaking backs and racking our foundation
till were screaming take it back
unpacked and all out, dig deep for the fall out, kettle blackened from potty mouths,
busted missing a tea spout
pour me a gallon of chandon the whole sip for your front lawn, till the bottles dry
like jokes from monty python
silly satans salivating sighing and spraying your favorite simon's saying cause piles of money and ego feed are waiting for the generating
nothing new under the sun but above clouds I found me some, cause ignant bliss still exists even if you wear a cummerbund
tell all your facts and try to catch my glazed eye, cause compromise can be the do or die, to where ever future lovers lie
this blueberry from space ferry might fit in a test tube in perspective
or we just miss the point why evolution was so selective

Ode to my daughter on her birthday - 26

My Sarah
When I looked at you last week trying on your new boots
Those almond eyes sparkling at something new, a gift
I saw my little pink girl, a princess, playing dress up again
Your long hair draped your high cheekbones
Life still a game, tinged with drama and theatre
As you look for fun in all your pursuits!
A player in life with a passion for cooking and music
You have become a kind, loyal, vivacious young woman
Self assured, grounded with a love of tradition
I looked at you and felt an overwhelming pride.

Sunday’s child is ' bonny, blithe, good and gay' they say
Befitting my Sabbath girl, a model child of few demands
Your bedroom a vast sea of Barbie and friends
A Passion for story-time and books
Your Dutch life with Irish sea-touched roots,
You are a real continental
A great scholar with degrees in Law and Psychoanalysis
You have found your true love with Luis, a Spaniard
As you both prepare to leave the Emerald Isle
I wonder at the achievement of you!

Ode to earthquake -w

(My ode to Earthquake is an irregular ode. The ode is written in
memory of an earthquake that took place in Gujarat State (Kutch Region)
of India in the year 2000 on the Republic Day of India on 26th January.)

I

What a day you chose, Grandma Mine!
To quake, to move, to shiver, to shake
Thereby to ravage, to savage, to shatter,
The celebrations of Mother India Republic Day.
A female snake eating her own children!
What bad karma those school children had done?
What configurations of the planets took place
In the natal charts of those thousand killed?

II

Million years ago you jolted and rocked,
Opening up the Atlantic & creating Indian Ocean,
Delinking India from Africa and Sri Lanka.
Those oceans are widening & the Pacific shrinking.
Will North America & Asia drift into each other?
The twelve plates* mate and hate each other,
Caribbean to Cocos & Indian to Eurasian.
Your wanton ways to be taken as blessing in disguise?
Your natural acts as great levelers? Or
HE made the world to fit best to create & destroy.

III

On the scene I met a man, a mattress maker by trade
Living with parents and two toddlers.
With debris under the rickety shelter,
The toddlers lay motionless covered with flies.
The third did not see the light of the day,
Journey made from mother’s womb
To that of the earth,
Amalgamating from dust to dust,
As his wife eight months pregnant
Died when the house collapsed.

Standing now on the roadside,
People throwing food at him from trucks,
The mattress maker without a mattress!
Brooding over the rigmaroles of the politicians,
Remembering armed gangs with choppers,
Cutting the fingers of the dead for a gold ring.

Feeling the tremors and shocks of the quake,
Cries, cracks, quacks fresh in his mind still.

Family and Friends

Family, the enemy of our souls wants us to believe
The lie that we are alone
He wants us to believe
That we are treading hopeless road

But the cloud witnesses who urge us on
Tell us another story
The road we tread with light and beauty and fellowship
My friends, we are never alone

Remembering my Mother

Now when I think of you
I remember the last years
You helped me to recover
A place I never could have reached
Showing me the true love of my mother
No matter how hard I pushed away
By my side you would stay

You helped through my hardest time
Forgiving my life's mistakes
Devoted yourself to my recovery
We grew closer than I ever remember
We had moments together
That will last forever

I still can't believe
When I recovered
The fatal illness
You were diagnosed
That would take you from us
But my memories will never be taken

As I pass the cemetery walls
To see your final resting place
You will always be on my mind
Kneeling here I think...
Are you watching over me
From someplace far beyond

Mother Ocean

Froth and foam, time and tide...
Ah, the motion of the ocean.
‘Tis the source of my heart's longing,
The place of my soul's belonging,
With it's push and pull...
Ebb and flow.

As time and space go rambling on...
At your shores, the same time and space
Stand halted...
Your maker and mine exalted...
By your push and pull...
Ebb and flow.

At times I find myself longing,
To become one with you,
And your knowing of life's beginnings,
Both old and new...
And the days and years of all your learnings.

To find myself wrapped up,
In your fathomless embrace,
In all the ways you have kissed me,
With the currents of your passion…
Your endless days, the mystical fashion,
Of your push and pull...
Ebb and flow.

Yet how shall I fathom,
Your unending endlessness?
And how shall I counter,
Your impartial fury?
Most certain am I that it will bury,
And erase,
All that is and leave no trace,
Of that which is and was to come.

For man who is blind, sees only your wealth,
And not wholly that,
But that which he deems
As wealth.

Till you, left naked and raped, rise...
To reprove us, to open our eyes.

Only then do we see,
T'was meant to be,
That you, and I and we,
Are made as one.

And as to you, unto us is done.

Thus to us is done for sure,
Till blindly stumbling we find this cure:

That those who shall possess you,
Shall do in setting you free.

And to them is your grace,
To them is your passion,
The depths of your soul and the endless fashion,
Of your timeless, enduring mystery.

An Ode to Turkeys

An Ode to Turkeys
     By Dane Smith-Johnsen

I
There was a time, year one thousand A.D
U.S. turkeys faced a brand new plight.
Usefulness seen.
Native American's hunting delight.
The white meat of a turkey is quite lean.
So much healthier than man knew before,
Nothing one ever could say,
In any way,
Would make Americans free turkeys anymore.

II
Thanksgiving comes and goes.
Wild turkey gobbling slows.
Ben Franklin watched their plight.
Nominated, though laughter did flare.
Turkeys beneath the moonlight
Were beautiful out there.
Ben suggested, turks as the nation's bird.
But eagles know, it was not so.
And turks in history endured this nations birth.

III
Although wild turkeys can run fast and fly,
Toms might in spring be found.
Fluffing, dancing around.
Caruncle and waddle shiny, bright red
Courting the hens, showing off, prancing, not dead.
Although turkeys fly strong,
The hunters by day kept watch in the fields.
Until, Old Tom, no more sang passion's song
And hens under bushes sat on eggs long.
When chicks hatched out and played their mother shields.
But on Thanksgiving Day...
Run away!

MOTHER EARTH

mother earth,
When would you stop feasting on our bodies
Stop your children and relatives
From killing our children and relations.
Our heart bleed thousand times in horror
At the lost of our brothers and sisters
But, there you are happy and joyful.

Your body fresh and beautiful
Our relations bodies made it so.
Is death your brother or nephew?
Is sickness your sister in law?
They all work hand in hand with you
Causing mayham to human kind.

Ashes to ashes
Dust to dust
Soul to soul An eye for an eye
Life for life.
You give and take from us
I understand, but spare us a little
With few minutes discussion
With your brother, death
Perhaps we may cease to toll and mine on you
Or maybe we dance the atilogwu
To appease your spirit for peace
So that you eat no more.

feed once annually
twice biannually
Each morning and night
We commit our people in tears to you
When will you stop the unfinished festival beyond
May your speck of sunshine decrease.
Your people betrayed our emotions
Torn apart by two feelings
Yet we learn not from the past voice
Dust to dust we all must go.

AN ODE TO MOTHER

It seems the angels were singing a song,
And their melody pleased God’s ears;
Singing of to whom such love belong,
They could subdue all pain and fears.
He asked them about who became
Possessed of a kind of love so grand.
He was told of the sweetest mortal name
That ever satisfied the hearts of man.
The dear name “Mother” God then heard,
It giving sound to the throb of His heart,
As if such a title was that preferred,
And such a figure so honored in classic art.
My own dear mother was second to none,
And enjoys her deserved Elysian rest.
Thus since down from heaven came the Son,
Her role and function is eternally blessed.

AN ODE TO HER

AN ODE TO HER
Honour whom shall we raise high
With her i always stand and sigh
Your love is what i see at home
To whom shall you be made known?

Cleopatra-can she ever stands your tide?
The mediator o! She stood the time
She is a way easy and safe to Christ grace
And intercessor of the worn out age

She is of heaven alma-mater
Tabernacle of our lord and master
O! Virgin our gracious mother
Full of grace humble and greater

Lost Without A Mother

Here is my journey of Life,
That all began
With that first cry.
My eyes shone in admiration,
When my mother's loving,
'I-will-care-for-you' eyes I saw.
Her tender touch
That caress my super soft skin,
Giving me hope
That earth might just be like
That paradise I'm coming from...

Now here I stand,
At the junction
Of Life and death,
Failure and success,
Sorrow and joy;
The right leads to success
And the left leads to life,
The back is darkened
And the eagles are flying
Right above the chick.

Where am I to go?
As all paths
Are garden of thorns.
Where is that hand,
With the magic wand,
That gave me hope
Of heaven on earth?
If she could just whisper to my ears and say,
This is the way to go...

MOTHER

Whenever I drown in the river of tears,
You have always been there to overcome all my fears;
Your guidance has every time thrown light in the path of darkness,
The beatings given by you resisted me to do any further menace;
Hats off to your effort to handle a child like me,
Without a father,find every pinch of time free;
I miss you every time whenever alone in streets,
Imagining to walk through the gates of joy matching with your feet;
Why should I wish for any gift on my birthdays?
When the Almighty has given me the best person who resides in my instincts everyday;
Your concern for me is never hidden from any side,
My love for you would lasts till my last drop of blood flow in the tide;
Your deteriorating health scares my mind,
To see you improvise is one of my first priority to find;
Your devotion to work always touched my heart,
Always set a target to get lead over you by putting a benchmark,
You are the home of blessings,
Wish I could have inherited some of your belongings;
My whatever achievements is owed to you,
The smile on your face eradicates all my worries whichever I pursue;
The Sun's glaze can never stand against your will,
Your diplomatic talks can outweigh the silence of moonlight to set peace with evil;
My unsung desires never required any words to express it to you,
I don't know how these things transmitted to your mind with every instant flew;
The wake up calls always angered me in the past,
The reason behind it never came to idiot boy such fast;
Whenever I am in need of father,
Your dual role enabled nothing to bother;
The verdicts of your acts influenced my ambition a lot,
Getting you as coach trained me to have course of victory with each defeat block;
At this phase of my life I can't afford to give you a gift,
May God give us every moment to remember something which would be sweet;
On the most special day of your life I won't sense my presence,
The biggest grudge I would ever have which will taunt it's essence;
Thanks for everything you gave all these years,
Mummy, you are the most loving person among my beloved dears.

Musings of Mother

"I shall be telling this with a sigh" Robert Frost My thoughts they roil like waters dark in the abyss of blackest night with memories of mother’s book marks of Longfellow read by lamp light. She called in the room around me the patter of other small feet, her gentle voice fetched angels Oh, rhymes how they astounded me like lullabies soft and so sweet. All fearsome shadows, she’d dispel Maxine, my queen read Tennyson and the Charge of the Light Brigade a little girl dreamt of caissons roll and thunderous cannonades. To be so brave the small child mused mother’s small, precious, heroine what would it take to stand so strong without father, and not confused What words where the linchpin to right mother’s tell tale wrong. Such sad inspiration*.. mother but a champion you were born. You’re adored before all others yet, tears bring memories forlorn. So, dreams stream on of Mother Goose three kittens and their mittens. My visions of your fleeting smile return almost every night, and your spirit comforts, lightens sights, if only for a little while.

Momma Has Dementia

Momma Has Dementia

I miss my mother so terribly
yet, she still walks the planet today,
still looking like herself, her smile and her laugh
but her thoughts are only on yesterday.

But, let me look back at her life to see
what I can find,
there is morality in the raising of her girls and
and courage when her loved ones were dying.

As a teenager when my heart would be broken
by some unfaithful boyfriend of mine,
daddy and momma would dance to break off my sorrow
wanting again to see my face to shine.

She has always been so independent
and such a hard worker to,
taking such care of daddy and my sisters and me
so in my heart I praise the Lord gratefully.

Then the fun we have had out shopping
and together going to foreign lands,
sightseeing and visiting and all parts of the trip
just having her with me made it so grand.

For you see, good parents are hard to come by
in this wicked world of ours,
so I know that mine was Heaven sent
and by the Father’s hand they were lent.

And when her earthly life is over
and her time to leave here has come,
I know that she’ll be with Him in Heaven
for she has trusted in God’s only Son.

ODE TO MOTHER

Ode To ‘Mother’ Creator ©
Not only is it a marvelous happen chance in being able to have ‘shares’ in Mother Nature’s flora creations 'first hand'---
But, we are then granted to sit before her, these ‘set tables’….
She, as our ‘hostess’ serves ‘up’ an endless canvasing ‘kaleidoscope’ set for our eyes only!
She tempts us again and again, into a fevered ‘hunger-fest’ to (pig-out) by and they are very much ‘ready’ with such ‘food for thought’!
She has intuitively displayed her indulgent ‘realm’ to overrun our 'minds' eye….
We are prearranged to touch, taste/smell and become a convert---
It is; as true, loyal, ‘voyeurs’ we now give our undivided attendance, when we are all invited to her 'seasoning’ assemblies….
Their wholeness is made perfect, even into their ‘finally’ timed performances!
Her uses and gifts work miraculously to brightening 'up' her shadings and tonalities towards her abundant-folding true colours and her 'achievements' are (forever) complemented upon---
Whether, it is in her fauna show of velvety, satin and silky petal-flowers spending titillating fragrances
Or, by use of her seasonally ‘varying’ cycles, in 'all' her weather modes; she always will spend, all her wonderment and excitement--- towards her spectacular works!
Her numerous ‘paint-box’ colours with their different scents and shaded consepts are definitely.... crafted, in alluring us feverishly, into inventive crazed acts---
Just like the moments, when a (newly) box of crayons, first opens up and invitingly nudges the painter and writer forward.binging 'us’, to recreate one's own bountiful displays with worded colour and paints….
Thus, with our 'first hand' wonder/mental experience, “Mother’ has never 'giifted', (a questionable) blank canvas to work upon!
We are a growing world-wide nature loving group, enamoured to (dabble) our time away, 'within’ her 'ecospheres'---
We have also ‘gifted’; as well, to oiur 'public', family an friends many of our exhibited works….
Our own ‘piece-meals’ are proudly admired and profitably ‘feasted’ upon!
Many wonderful invites are sent 'out', for all to come and attend our (tabled smorgasbords) ---
‘Mother’, must be as proud and pleased when taking note, of all the vast, interpretative and varied (personal) worked styles we have made, in her likeness….
she has ‘qualified’us her pupils, in her stead, to such ‘artistry’ freedoms!
We have been ‘branded’ her slaves; as only a true slave driver can do---
We are meant to go through with our own ‘humbling’ efforts willingly.
Our need and desire to please and honour her great gifts, by these, our gifts are surmountable!
Our enthusiasms, to share our ‘Mother Nurtured’ talents among one and all to salivate and savour, is indeed a two-fold 'forever'gift and made much more---
We can only hold her responsible for our inspirational madness every day, days in and days out throughout time….
Mother Nature, we thank you for the power you have given us again, and again and again to learn, create and live in your world.
We are indeed, our own 'self-appointed time keepers and guardians to your ‘star studded 'forevermore''garden!
My writer’s mind speaks ‘never’ enough words to paint your magnificence---
There are not enough means, to ever do you justice….
Our word/plays and colourful paintings are but a ‘stitch’ to your ‘dressed’ canvases!
