Happy Solitude, COLLABORATION WITH POET DESTROYER A

(This theme coincidentally matched up with another contest I recently
entered, so I revised my sonnet and then PD graciously extended this
idea of a day of happy solitude. Thanks, Linda, for keeping it in sonnet
form! It's a double sonnet now!)

Happy Solitude/Andrea Dietrich In solitude, I watch the clear blue sky.  Leaves flutter on the grand majestic oak  beneath which I am sitting;. Swallows fly  around me, swooping! Now I hear a croak -  a sound that I am sure I’d never hear  if I were on a busy city street.  I stand and walk around. The sound is near.  The feeling that I get is rather sweet  when finally I spot there on the pond  the tiny frog that’s serenading me.  Crops rippling in the breeze I see beyond  my shaded spot. I'm running - feeling free.  Inside a field with flowers everywhere,  I'm whirling as the sunlight gilds my hair!  -----  Like the sun, I sit and explore the view  A sensation, of everything I lust  Feelings I found myself unequal to  Yellow leaves fall to the ground like gold dust  Once, I reached to touch a lonely rock  The sounds return back into the shadows  I felt trapped by the beauty as I walk  Suddenly branches hung like the gallows  In slow motion, with no reason to stray  Facing down, the new founding sound follows  The croak in the water echoes with play  Captivated, by the flies it swallows  A young, peaceful feel, indulging in fun  I shall kiss and see if he's the right one  ~A Poet Destroyer Collaboration~

Rhapsody in Red

When morning breaks in shades of wine...
with claret skies to blush the dawn...
I will stretch and yawn, and thank the night
           for this polished, dappled day

I will wait until the sun is high, and dew upon the rose is dry
I'll have my cup, .. with toast and jam...
then, make escape, ..........for the quest begins,
                                                              to seek my small reward

It happens slowly...
gathering reason from an untamed mind
up into the meadow where the brambles climb
twisted and tangled, through the burgandy vines
deftly my fingers, while probing the maze
will reach for wild berries.....warm from the day
thumping their goodness, one after one
into the bucket, dented and worn
A search through thorns, a prick on my thumb
till my back is ripe, and wet in the sun

Finger painting my faded old jeans
Knowing my cheeks are flushing in pink
Sucking sweet juice from two crimson thumbs
Who cares a lick, of the thorns or a bee?

I am a bee, buzzing serenity...
plucking small bits of reason and sanity
taking home goodness in a battered tin pail
feeling alive, on this wild-flowered hill

Tonight's sweet delight, is warm berry cobbler,
oozing with goodness of juicy red gems
staining my tongue, and turning lips scarlet
dripping like blood drops onto my chin

Yet never as splendid, or tasting as fine,
as warmed by my smile, straight from the vine

Picking red berries, and freeing my mind
                                      *   *
                                            * *
                                       *      *
                                                  *
                                             *
           under clouds tinged vermilion
               and a red crimson sun

THE LONELINESS OF A LOST CLOUD

God named me a straying cloud,
and by His perpetual wish I abide...
as the loneliest cloud floating on the earth's breeze.
I glance below and discover the yellow daffodils pride,
and fluttering they dance beneath the apple trees;
and as a sparrow I feel the bond.

My night visitation is more exciting than broad daylight,
I encounter many stars and make them my friends,
and they love shining on the Milky Way...
looking down on the lonely bay so bright;
and tossing their luminous heads, they brightly dance:
so happy they have come my way!

Even the ocean's waves join them in their play,
but their dance is better than theirs,
and at such wondrous sight I make verse...
being offered their warm company;
I am amazed by how they roll and still gazing away,
I do admire the spectacle that gladdens me.

So often, on my couch I gladly lie to rest,
but overwhelmed by empty or moody thoughts,
that splendid image flashes in the glow of the sunset;
my daffodils still wave and invite me to dance,
and I dance with them, making a happy sound...
not to feel the loneliness of a lost cloud.

Sitting In My Deck Chair

The pale face of nature, of flowers and treetops
Has been lost without color, behind frost in the meadow
Under snow on the fence post, and the ice on the willow

So tattered and bobbing, and weary of hiding
So weary of biding her time in the fog
Tired of the doldrums, tired of the ho-hums , and weary of crying...

The pale face of nature, of gardens in springtime
Will drink in this morning, to find it surprising!
A lekker arrival !!
Of sunkissed horizons
Is blissfully welcomed with gold in the morning
All smitten with cheer !

Trees lean to the side
Drunk on the sun
Lifting their branches
And keeping it near

I long for it too
As I move out my chair
From under the shade
To drink in the sun
After dark winter days
To welcome it here

A lekker arrival
Is speckled in sunshine
I find it to be fine, to bask on my deck!
I'll poke out my neck to soak in the bliss
And what could be better than this? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Happy Solitude

Co-authored by: Teddy Kimathi

Sometimes I find bliss
lying on a carpet of grass,
and gazing at the moon -
wondering whether it knows
that stars surround it every time;
wondering whether it knows some
people have worshiped it for eons
until now;
wondering whether it knows I'm
staring at it......

Entrapped by beauty
enslaved to everlasting solitude
ages come and go
the peace of time remains; to the
--desolate surface of the barren night
wondering whether it knows,
I'm mesmerized by its natural state
with Solace to the open mind
my spirit that of a recluse
Wondering whether it knows
the silent open sky is the enigma
emerging from beyond, finding bliss,
wondering whether it knows I'm
captivated.....

Walking by the river

Walking by the river.

It was that kind of day
With the Spring Sun soft and warm
There was a kind of energy
That moved within my form
I could have walked the whole day long
As I felt me, natures pull
Oh Lord those river trails are beautiful.

I passed a group of roos
Who were grazing by the river
Some Parrots screeched above my head
And set my heart a quiver
And as those creatures gave their calls
A Kookaburra laughed
Oh how I love to walk that river path.

It was that kind of day
That you’d like to last for years
With the country air rich in my lungs
And my mind all calm and clear
I could have walked until I dropped
Along that river trail
Feeling good and living in the now.

Above The Clouds

Above the clouds, I long to be
Among the other things I see
Where I can stand and shout out loud
Here I stand, above a cloud!

Where whispy trails of jets in flight
In blue skies, patchwork quilts of white
While here below I am, a grain of sand
As people travel from a far off land

Above the clouds on a pitch black night
The moon peeps out to share his light
The stars still seem to find a way
To dance around the cloud's display

I'm amazed at the ability of man
To send satellites soaring, like they can
Above the clouds and far beyond
Like they posses a magic wand

But, most majestic of them all
Is that snowy mountain top so tall
Where I can stand and shout out loud
Here I stand, above a cloud!

Groundswell Girl - Named by JB

Enter a storybook tale
Where I can be
The heroine you hail
Lucid dreams of soft reflection
A touch heated with lust and desired protection
A breathe a gasp as we succeed
Join the fairytale with me
Valiant night within dark eyes
the right movement and I make them shine
like moonlight on the steamy hot spring
care to follow for a little dip with me
Trailing like the water at my fingertips
Grasp me around my hips
As close as the breeze on my skin
Whisper lies as I let you in
Lips mumbling up my thighs
bare heart exposed to the sky
fire burning in my veins
Am I a mistress of this lust or simply a slave
Trembling with desire
Take me till we've lost count of the hours

Where I can be the heroine you hail

Why aren't we happy

Why aren’t we happy?

What is it in the most of us?
We are not how we should be
We should be like a singing bird
Who boldly, in the trees
Sings his song when fear is done
His life just flows along
He only knows the dance of life
So he just sings his song.

And yet we humans live our lives
Enfolded in our fears
Glorifying in the sad
And making this quite clear
As we always speak of doom and gloom
And watch it on TV
And always live our lives in fear
Is this the way it should be?

If only each would take a look
And see just what we be
We never see the flowers grow
Or let our hearts be free
Maybe it’s time to see the truth
Of what this life could be
If we look at life without the fear
And live with mystery.

Epitaph to a Happy Mosquito

T'was a warm summer's day, when I took to the trail,
to cruise that old black spruce, way down in the swale.

A gallon of bug dope was strapped on my hip,
which I figured would last me for most of the trip.

Down through the sphagnum I plowed like a moose,
a huffin' and puffin' and spittin' my snoose.

Then off in the distance, I heard a faint roar,
like B-29's coming home from the war.

The sky clouded over, so you barely could see,
"They're mosquitoes! "I cried, and they're coming for me.

They flew by me once and past me again,
a-flexing their stingers, before they moved in.

I grabbed for my bug dope and spread it on thick,
just hopin' and prayin', it would do the trick.

They came at me fiercely and punctured my hide,
But before they could drink much, they dropped off and died.

I thought to myself, "What type of bug dope is this?"
The mosquitoes all had smiles on, as they lay there in bliss.

After checking the label, I saw my mistake,
t'was the 100 proof whiskey, that Uncle Jake makes.

Water Droplet

I was a happy little water droplet
Playing in a cloud
Until lightning struck
And thunder clapped loud
Stopping all my mirth
Dropping me to earth

Joining many others
Of my sisters and brothers
Bobbing wild and rampant
In a surging torrent
Towards a dam
Causing quite a jam

In a pipe so black
With no way back
Chlorinated pure
Like I’ve never been before

Jailed in a tray
With cells all the way
Frozen in a cube until used
Dropped into whisky
Making me quite frisky

To the sound of “Cheers”
I disappeared
Down a gullet to a stomach
Mushed to and fro

Told to go
To a loo full of poo
Down a sewer full of mice
That really was not nice

Finally to the sea
Where I was free
To have some fun
Floating in the sun.

Feeling emancipated
Zap!. Evaporated
Into a happy little water droplet
Playing in a cloud
Hoping not to hear the thunder clapping loud.

Walking Njeri's Dream

The heat of the busy day has abated,
Noisy children safely gathered and playing.
The cool gentle breeze, scents understated
Breathes through Palm leaves gently swaying.

This is our time, our tranquility, our time to tread,
I feel the soft cold beach sand rushing between my toes.
The waves beat against the shore, lilting rhythms in my head
As the empty beach and lapping sea evaporate our woes.

Soft conversation can now be held without the ugly noise
Of cars and trucks and motorbikes on the busy road.
The soothing twilight music, nature's playground toys,
As we're strolling arm in arm, our troubles to offload.

The water's edge is firm and wet as we walk beholding the glorious sight
And all the angst and uncertainty, at once, begins to mellow.
The black night sky embraces the Cerulean blue and calms the fight
For the last goodbye at the world's edge between red and yellow.

The footsteps we leave in wet sand slowly disappear
Like lost loves and absent friends they're washed away.
We stand and gaze out to sea, the poetry's so clear,
With whispered verse, the perfect end to an imperfect day.

Emeralds and Black Diamonds

Emeralds and Black Diamonds

Last summer I asked you to lie down young lad with me; in my sage green meadows
Tonight I'm envisioning you're tantalizing charismatic teasing ways in the breeze,
In our clover field of meadows, I feel so carefree with wonderment at this time of year
Come to me my love and lay beside me in this softened meadow and feel the aroma of the: Softness within us as we lie in this field of clover

In our open-field, I thus smell the aroma of sweet honeysuckle which arouses my yen
For beneath our passions thus sparkle by the mid-afternoon sun,
There are no nearing clouds which abide our views of choice to your pleasure
And again I ask of you young man and lay you down beside me.

Come closer to me my love; I feel your hungry emerald eyes
I'm begging you to stare into my warm and inviting black diamond eyes,
Please take my loving hand and bond, my love as I will assure you
That these emerald eyes and black diamond eyes will never fade away.

Tiger running free

Tiger running free

Tiger running through the scrub
The sun upon his back
Muscles rippling all aglow
He’s sprinting down the track

All lesser beasts they hide away
What can they do but cower?
They feel it in their frightened souls
This wild cats mighty power.

But striped oppressor doesn’t care
That’s not where he is at
He’s just playing with his cubs
This big, soft, gentle cat.

Just Be

Sometimes I admire the littlest things
A simple rock. A blade of grass.
They need no future goals, no tax exemptions
They don’t need to go anywhere or be anything
They just are.

Sometimes, especially when I’m reading life insurance policies,
I envy the rocks and the grass
And try to be like them for a moment.
I sit perfectly still and give myself to the wind-
And it whispers in my ear:
Just be.
And for that moment I don’t need to go anywhere or be anything.
And at the snap of my fingers,
All the complex widgets and gizmos that make up my life
Fold into paper airplanes and fly off in the wind.

The fox

The Fox.

The fox he bounced up to the toad
As everything around him glowed
He took her hand so tenderly
And said "hey sing this song with me"

The elephant told the kangaroo
“No matter what you say or do
You've got to have this dance with me”
And hummed a little melody.

They danced and danced
The whole night through
And really had a great to do
As their time they filled so merrily
All crazy, wild, and fancy free

The chimpanzee said to the clown
As he tapped his toes upon the ground
“Come laugh with me and have some fun
Let's dance and sing, hey everyone”.

The bear he laughed to see them all
As he drank some juice to keep him cool
Then he joined in all the carry on
As they played and danced the whole day long.

Who Am I

A new photograph floats to the surface
Playfully dressing up as the world around me
Hat, striped socks and all
Tiptoeing at the top for one last sweet moment
Before sinking back into my ocean mind.

One after another they arrive
Single file,
Steeping my eyes in the world
As the minds shutter, ever fluttering
Strings together this conscious stream I play in.

My photographs fade in time’s wrinkled arms.
Joining their brothers and sisters at the ocean floor,
They hold hands and try to answer the question that is always asking itself:
Who am I?

In love with life

In love with it all

I’m in love with all of it
I haven’t got much wealth
I guess I’m getting older now
I’m running down on health
But I’m in love with all of it
Every blade of grass, each tree
I love it with my heart and soul
I adore its mystery.

Everything in life excites me
I don’t know why this be
But I don’t suffer anymore
With depressive misery
Within my world I am a king
Cause I have everything
Every day is dear to me
Each moment makes my heart sing.

That golden Sun there in the sky
Is looking down on me
As he colors all with wondrous glory
Creating so much mystery
As here I sit, so all alone
The whistling soothes my soul
As canary, caged, just sings for me
And the morning feels so whole.

Simplicity

Simplicity

I live with sweet simplicity
Desires I do not do
My heart s filled with simple things
My mind is never blue
I’m living for this moment now
The past is gone forever
The future is a myth, to me
And I will seek it never

Heaven is inside of me
And God, she is there too
There is no time that I don’t feel
Her love so very true
I see it in the flowers that bloom
The birds that sing their song
I see it all because I’m here
And here I do belong

Deep joy is written in ones soul
One only has to seek
That bubble, it is always there
Yet one must be more, meek
The whisper it is calling you
‘Wake up, Wake up, my child
And when you answer to that call
With life you’ll be beguiled.

Feeling happy

Feeling happy.

Lord, I feel so very happy
I want to dance, I want to sing
I want to glance up to the Heavens
And let the starlight, to me bring
The sound of angels laughing with me
Because this world is oh, so sweet
Sometimes I’m just filled with laughter
And every day I feel complete.

Whether sun is shining softly
Or the rain is pouring down
If the wind is howling at me
I’ll never, ever wear a frown
For I am living in a haven
It be this world so wonderful
All the birds are singing sweetly
Seems this world has got it all.

I see the moon up in the Heavens
And the stars so beautiful
As I walk on each new morning
Oh, yes indeed, I love it all
Here in in my world, I have no troubles
I am a king, a beggar too
I have everything, and nothing
I guess I’m of the chosen few.

Living my dream

Living my dream

I had one dream when I was young
To go to another land
In life I wasn’t satisfied
I wanted something grand
Lions, tigers. Kangaroos
And all those wild, wild beasts
Africa, South America
Or Australia at least.

Possessive Mother was my curse
How could I get away?
Every time I mentioned it
She had so much to say
And made me feel so guilty
Really cramped my style
And then one day there came along
Something to make me smile

I’d just turned my nineteenth year
When this great girl came along
She hailed from West Australia
And filled my heart with song
So we got married, had some kids
And here we are in Oz
Been here for half a century
And I came here all because

It was my fate to find this girl
She was my destiny
There’s be a whisper in the skies
That knows how things will be
It takes one’s soul, and leads it on
So growth, it might occur
And I know that west Australia
My heart, it sure does stir.

My treasure chest

My treasure chest

My treasure chest, is not a truth
It’s but a metaphor
For I have never dreamed of wealth
My treasure is much more
It’s filled with the moon, the stars at night
And the sun that shines each day
And the beauty of the darkest sky
That highlights milky-way.

It’s filled with trees, majestic trees
And birds that sing so sweetly
My treasure chest it be filled up
But never though completely
Everything that’s beautiful
Is in my treasure chest
It’s filled with all the countless things
That make me happiest.

My treasure chest is never ending
It goes on till forever
It’s filled with all the love that lives
And the sweetness of together
I need no other treasure chest
This one, it satisfies me
For me, I know with certainty
It contains eternity.

Self PORTRAIT

I will start with using my hand as a guide
And in the end I will open my eyes that I will decide

I consider to do this with one thing in mind
I will close my eyes and will imagine it blind
With no colors or fractionation of the light
Just plain me and a vision with my hand as my sight

My hair is very coarse and some what fine
What I just described is so benign
I twirl my hair and make it bend
And I will say its very clean not oily on the ends

As I press on my forehead I simply feel a distinct part
I notice from hair to skin it is very different from the start
The simple partings from hair not like skin
I am going to feel with my other hand and begin

The smoothness of my skin like years of water eroding a rough rock surface smooth
Not just that my skin is like home to years of stories like scars and attitude
And when I raise my eyebrows the wrinkles it makes is more so for expression
I did not notice it with certain ideas, thoughts, and emotions

I run my hands down to my eyelids I feel movement of my eyes trying to peek
Eyelids that I have, vibrates with some kind of fear, Why?, that I will seek
Just now as I thought about it a sensation ran through my brain
My eyes is the world to me and that is true and not insane

Myself portrait of me is through my touch for now
But to finish it I will have to open my eyes soon and how
I been in a trance full of so many ideas just with my eyes closed
I run my hand on my nose and lips and I smile who could apposed

The feelings in the tip of my fingers rub on my chin and jaw with care
I do notice roughness of unshaved velcro gripping hair
I skip my ears so I will sneak a feel with my fingers I chose
I notice it is like my nose with cartilage, so I don't suppose

I will now open my eyes that I will use a mirror to see myself
My head is oval shape and my neck is like a stump, please help
My skin is very tan and my eyes are brown with my eyes I see
With all the description with my hands, one sure thing is the same and key

It is the description of measurements that is what my hands and eyes can see me
With a smile I am looking into the mirror and I can describe that I am happy
Myself portrait of me is such a way to get to know myself once more
I will never think it was a waste of time or a bore

The Autumn Affect

There's something unspecific about the autumn nights
A certain shade of color that uplifts my inner child's eyes
Beside a cashmere moon Venus and Jupiter shine bright
Complimented by a sea of blinking infinite twilight
The scent of burning oak lingers in the air from home made fires
Reminiscent of a time when this man was just a child
Careless and so free to dream and any dream to live
Like feathers floating across a field carried by the wind
As a gentle breeze blows through the leaves shivering delightful gloom
Unlike flowers of springtime the disheveled autumn vibrance bloom
Leaves crackle beneath my feet along the skeleton tree path
Where I try to find my peace or a song to make me laugh
The air is so much crisper and also soothing when I breathe it in
Underneath a starry sky and brighter constellations of Heaven
Amidst the trail I pass a lovely couple holding hands
While their children run aside frolicking in a playful dance
An old man and his wife admire the view from a wooden bench
With smiles on their face as if nostalgia is still their closest friend
Its these specific autumn affects that bring me sorrows and joy
Reminding me of all theses things Ive wanted as a man since I was a little boy
Its times like these that I wish I wasn't always so alone
Because I would light an fire with my family and call it home

Dancing with the trees

Dancing with the trees.

Like the silence of the bush be I
So wonderful I feel
Within the depth of mystic river
Comes a space that is so still
I see it all, and all of me
In the dancing of the trees
The way they wave so gracefully
As they float upon the breeze.

I catch a glimpse of the vast 'I am'
In the power of the silence
All arrogance it dissipates
And so do shades of violence
As they flow away on the painted river
On it's way to the mighty ocean
The only thing that takes their place
Is love and sweet devotion.

A Parrot lands upon a branch
All orange, blue, and green
As I catch a glimpse of the morning sun
As it shines upon his sheen
And make the colours come to life
And I feel that power in me
the power of the all that is
With all it's energy.
