Dad Was The Last Snowflake

The last great snowflake standing
Little snowflakes fell swiftly
All around the house they fell
Eight male flakes_three little girls

House was lively in winter
As they all warmed by the fire
Boys' boistour tales, girls brush long hair
Then silence all rested heads

At four A.M. each morn_chores
Breakfast, lunch packed off to school
Walking that long mile was rule
School was important dad said

Soon the oldest snowflake wed
As life goes all followed him
Leaving the warm hearth behind
Some of them to produce twins

As life goes_death visited
All their humble doors sadness
Some had children die at birth
And some at very young age

What they saw in their lifetime
Changes that took place_cars_planes
Atom bomb that ended war
None their warm family disgraced

Death started visiting doors
One above middle went home first
Then slowly they all went home
But dad was the last snowflake

Solipsist

Let the Deicide commence.

You're a voyeur at best!
Your vampiric heart is beating out of your chest!
And you have slayed the ones whom would love you for anything less
Ready to consume the final fragments of innocence,
And for you there is no forgiveness,
On your knees pleading, screaming to a tyrant in the skies;
The father of lies.

I will never be enslaved in your superiority
The people agree: jaded of your false dichotomies.
Know: I will be whomever nature intends to be
Apollo and I will share our dreams,
and you will be forced to see
your failure!

I know who you are...
Readily the first to present your scars
Chained by some despot or mental czar
An emotional homunculus in your mind, behind bars
Reluctant to escape - even when proven fake
Your demented mind - depths no one will penetrate!

...And you see me suffering
Not caring of any casualties
Just as long you recieve your safeguard of sympathy
So very wary of the masses and their Anarchy; Liberious ways

Solipsist - Is there no one you can see?
Even if she was presented burning?
Solipsist - Is there no one you can believe?
Even if Sophia was screaming?
Solipsist - Know you have killed and abused me
Imprisoned in your own personal reality

My kiss from Heaven

My Kiss from Heaven

I used to have a Ouija board
I’d play with it for hours
I never really believed in it
I thought it had no power
It was just a novelty
To me, a piece of fun
Then once when I was playing it
Just before the day was done

All of the room went kind of still
And a silence touched my soul
It felt like angels were all around me
And my world felt kind of whole
My hand went whirring round that board
Like me, I could not stop it
I felt that I had no control
It disturbed me just a bit.

A message, well it seemed to come
It seemed to say to me
“Phone your father in the old country
And do it speedily”
So I did this, I phoned Mum up
She told me dad was sick
And If I wanted to see him alive
I’d have to get back quick.

Well I got back to see my dad
Then he died not too long after
I let him know how much I loved him
And we shared some tears and laughter
I ask, was this a kiss from Heaven?
It seems like this could be
All I know is I’m glad it happened
It changed my life for me.

The Look On My Child's Face

The Look On My Child’s Face…

Just yesterday I noticed a look of
 love on my child’s face.
This happened in a most “ordinary place.”

It was in our home.
 A place by God’s design.
I felt God speaking to my heart
 this particular time.

I didn’t take any time to
 stop and realize,
The look of love and innocence
 in my child’s eyes.

“Am I being the kind of Dad
 God wants me to be?”
“Am I being an example of Christ
 for my child to see?”

Have I been demonstrating my
 God-given ability,
teaching my kids God’s love,
 and responsibility?

May a Christ-like life in my kids
 be clearly seen and understood,
As one day they will
grow into adulthood.

I hope that one day my
 Children will say:
“I want to be like my Dad-
every single day!”

I Stared The Devil In His Eye

Mom and dad tried to raise us kids right,
tucked us into bed early each night,
taught us we should always say a prayer,
because the devil lurked everywhere...

That the Good Lord would keep us safe,
no matter what problems we faced,
that He'd watch over us from above,
that a forgiving heart, He'd always love,

But I didn't care, try or see why,
I'd been told the right ways to live by,
and the devil kept on closing in,
that's when all my problems begin,

I ran the streets real late at night,
learned real quick how to fight,
Mom and dad got so uptight,
me coming home at morning light,

I really started messing up at school,
thought that I was just too cool,
and didn't need to live by any Golden Rule,
My oh my, was I a fool,

And that's when more problems begin,
as the devil lurked around every bend,
but I didn't care or reason why...
as I stared the devil in his eye,

I started smoking pot and cigarettes,
through all the coughing, choking regrets,
shooting dice and making bets,
stealing things to pay my debts,

Then I started drinking whiskey and beer,
skipping school, I had no fear,
the devil had me in high gear,
but then I recalled, God was always near,

Yes, the Good Lord opened both of my eyes,
and rescued me from a certain demise,
through all of my past sin and pain,
He's with me watching over me again,

Mom and dad tried to raise us kids right,
tucked us into bed early each night,
as I keep their reminders safe in prayer,
I also pray for everyone, everywhere.

The Nameless - for South Africans of all colours who fought for freedom

The Nameless

Slipping through the sieve of history,

the nameless rest.

Not for the nameless are roads renamed, nor monuments built.

Not for the nameless are songs sung, nor ink spilled.

The nameless rest.

Their silent sacrifice,

quiet ordeal,

muted trauma,

remain interred,

amongst their remains.

The nameless rest.

Not for the nameless are doctorates conferred, nor eulogies recited.

Not for the nameless are honours bestowed, nor homages directed.

The nameless rest.

They rest within us,

they walk with us,

in every step that we tread.

They rest within us,

they walk with us,

for their spirit is not dead.

“Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal”
- inscription at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier WWII in Moscow

Special thanks to my dearest elder sister Tasneem Nobandla Moolla, whose conversations with me about life as a non-white person growing up in pre and post-Apartheid South Africa prompted me to write this dedication to the countless, nameless South Africans of every colour, whose sacrifices and dedication in the struggle against Apartheid tyranny must never be forgotten.

My sister’s middle name ‘Nobandla’ which is an isiXhosa name and means “she who is of the people” was given by her godfather, Nelson Mandela, my father’s ‘best-man who could not be, as Nelson Mandela was unable to-make it to my parent’s wedding as he was in jail at the time in the old Johannesburg Fort. This was the 31st December 1961.

Scars Left Behind

You were always honest
unfortunately it didn't extend to yourself

Regal persona was never exceeded by your accomplishments
If only you were as important as you thought others thought you were

Some bring joy when they enter a room
no one would ever accuse you of that
Leaving was always the best gift you could offer

Being you could not have been easy
No friends to speak of
accept one
maybe not even him
I think he froze in your shadow
He has begun to thaw in your absence

Strangely I miss you
Not entirely sure why
Do I in some weird way owe you for my success?
Without you I would not have been born

You are gone
Certainly not forgotten
The scars are my reminder
A multitude of memories mark my soul
Not your typical father son fare
Norman Rockwell wouldn't paint our picture
I wish I could remember happier times
some wishes don't come true

Eventually our nightmare came to an end
You gave us the gift of leaving
Am I evil for being Thankful?
You died alone
Should I have flown to be by your side?
Perhaps
Somehow it seems fitting you parted in this way
If I had come I may not have been able to hide my relief
Now we both have rest

What People Were and What People Are

People were
Many things.
Strange or not

People were
Different and
Odd and fun.

People were
Monsters but…
That’s not all

People were
And still are
Strange and odd.

People are
People. For
life is life.

Yet not.
Not is lies.
Truth seeps from

Every mouth
Lies, lies, lies
Move, move, move

But somehow
Lies prevail.
Lies are life.

Lies are death.
Lies are homes.
Lies are pain.

Lies are truth.
Yet somehow.
Truth prevails.

Truth is life.
Truth is death.
Truth is home.

Truth is pain.
Truth is lie.
Truth is that.

Lies will die.
Lies will cease.
Nevermore.

Truth will live.
Truth will be.
Forever.

As A Parent I Want My Kids to Serve God

As A Parent, I Want My Kids to Serve God! As a parent, I’m trying the best that I can…. Though there are things that I don’t understand! I remember my parents teaching me right and wrong. And taught that God’s laws certainly belong! I’ve tried to share these values with my kids too… The choices they’ve made, and the things they do! When situations in life, seem to have changed… I know that my heavenly father remains the same! I think about what in life, to my kids, I have given… And pray they’ll serve God all the days they’re livin’! Even though I’ve failed and stumbled along the way… I hope I’ve taught my kids how important it is to pray! This family that God gave to me, has grown over a period of time. I’m thankful for the opportunity to call them “mine.” I pray they’ll seek God’s guidance! Wherever they go! May the word of God strengthen and nourish their soul! And as my kids get older, and they move out on their own… May they seek God’s love and protection over their home! I pray that my children will give God their very best! May they serve him daily! And let him take care of the rest! I’m trying my best, as a parent, to trust Jesus and believe! His goodness, in our lives, is what we need to achieve! By Jim Pemberton

I'm Not the Kind of Dad That I Need to Be

I’m Not the Kind of Dad That I Need to Be! I remember reading the Bible to my son. But what a mess, my life has become! My children told me, they were proud of their dad! Now they say they’re embarrassed and sad. I once lived a Godly life! I really did! Just look at me now! And how I live! Things in life I once called wrong and sin. Are now causing me to stumble again. God's word I had loved! Jesus was my treasure! I "traded my soul" for what gives me "pleasure." I’m not the kind of father that I need to be! What kind of example will my family find in me? Will I grow stubborn to God as I age? Replacing his peace, for anger and rage? I need Jesus to bring peace to my troubled soul! I ask YOU Lord to make me clean and whole. Restore unto me the joy of my salvation. By your blood, make me a new creation. Words alone cannot truly express… This family God's given to me. I am so blessed! By Jim Pemberton

Lazy Old River

There’s a lazy old river in the back of my mind
Our family would visit from time to time,
Where the waters ran gently through countless miles
Of live oaks and woodlands, placid and wild.

Wherein one such place I still can trace
The vestiges of those days
Filled with watermelon fights and blue herons in flight
And mom’s apple pie, homemade.

With wheelbarrow races and so many faces
Of friends long gone like the rain…
Cool, clean and like a dream
Disappearing, just like they came.

Playing Tarzan and fly from a rope we would tie
On a limb hanging over the bank
With a loud whooping yell and smile as we fell
Into old man river and sank.

Down to the bottom and touched the sand
And popped back up once more
Laughing like crazy ‘till the sun set lazy
Ending our day by the shore.

With our dad and a book and that one special look
That it’s time to start saying our prayers
Of goodness and grace and thanks for that place
Where my heart still lingers back there.

Gift Of Mortality

An earthly existence
A universe beyond my minds, comprehension
I die
I rise
Life lessons reviewed
Homeward bound
I am not lost, after all!
I am a willing participant
Serving, the Father, of all creation
His son combined, ‘producing life’ as we know it
Representing them, in everything I do
I am nothing, without Love!
My heart full of faith, loyal service I give
Learning how to unconditionally serve, as the Father unconditionally, loves me
Worshipping our Divine Creator’s existence
Choosing to live, moment to moment
Being as one with ‘Our Universal Father’
No physical permanency
My physicality, disappearing
My mortality existence, I let go of
Death temporary
My spirit alive!
Relief, Peace
‘I am only passing through!’
A unique, experience of mortality
A gift, I am blessed to experience, to live!

I'm so Thankful For My Father

Lord… I’m Thankful For My Dad!

Lord, during this special day, I’m so glad…
For giving to me such a special dad!

He’s been very thoughtful and kind!
Fathers like him are very hard to find!

I remember growing up with my brothers…
He was special to us, like “no other!”

As a young boy, he taught me God’s ways.
And I’ve kept it throughout my days!

I’ve often sought his advice and counsel…
Especially when life
was looking “awful!”

He was there to give support
 the best he could.
Trying to help the best way
 he understood.

I suppose now that I’m growing old…
I’m remembering more things that my dad told!

“My father is one in a million.”
 Is what I believe.!
Many blessing from him
 I have received!

May the blessings of God daily surround him!
I’m so thankful that my mother found him!

Thank you Lord for giving to me a dad like this!
May his days ahead be happy
 and blessed!

I Think of a Time When I Was Young

I can think of a time, when I was young.
I was growing up and having fun!
I remember how excited I was to have a t.v.
There were my brothers, my parents and me!
I remember at about the age of ten.
My dad thought going to the theater was a “sin.”
There were many things
that as young man…
I later began to see, and understand!
My parents shared God’s love the best they could!
And I read the Bible and was trying to be “good.”
I had my troubles… And problems bear...
But I had a family, and much prayer!
The truth of God’s word helped sustain me!
I knew how much he really loved me!
My parents, may seem like they were “old fashioned.”
They loved their kids! With a Godly compassion!
I’m thankful to be blessed with a Godly love!
My family was a treasure from heaven above!
I think about today, and how things go wrong.
Many families don’t seem to “get along!”
I pray for the blessing of God, to bind them together!
May we all serve him! Today, and forever!
His love must be the cord that binds!
His will must be the focus of our minds!
May the presence of God bind us as one!
Every mother, father, daughter and son!

Here's to the deadbeat dads

All these years at home, me and my momma alone
Daddy on the run, headed for the sun, he must of been..
Because I obviously wasn't his sunshine

Growing up wishing you were there when I had something to say
But now it's on pause, just like I am to write this
There's no more fightin' it, I hate you daddy
And I love writing it

All the love and hate will come out, I'll be spittin' **** you
And failure out of my mouth. And when I stop talkin'
I'll be in a craze, glaring at him
With my hate my hate and rage gaze

I'll kick up my feet, scuff dirt in his face
Tell him I put weed and lines of cocaine in his place
And enjoy the disgrace upon his face
And tell him that it's his fault for tappin' out in the first place

Left alone in this world of demons
Trying to find my halo in this crazy maze
Raising myself, daddy left
And mommas worrying about her ownself

Life ain't always a perfect song, it skips and studders
Fear, something nothing can cover
My will is what I discovered, feelings uncovered
She starts thinking and wonders

Here dad, I'm gonna use brain
Yeah, I'm a smart ass
Seventeen years later
And I'm pouring my heart out, at last

Making it my point, I'm taking off my mask
Getting it off my chest, and laying these demons to rest

But **** me and the way I lived
Playing dirty and not letting my emotions show
Couldn't find mine
So I stole someone else's halo

But used it as a frisbee and chased it to hell
Spittin' cards now with cruela di'ville
And I know you're here too, in this fiery hell
I'll find you
And the corner in which you dwell
And when I find you asshole
You won't be slithering no more
I'll take off you're scales one by one
Make you the one who's coming undone

Scatter your ashes on hells front door
Bye daddy, now I'm the one who's leaving
I'll shut it, make sure I slam it
Throw in a **** you and god damn it

God sure damned us alright
But don't worry, I'll be sleeping tight
Nightmares at night, no more
I found my heart at my core

Survivin', tryin'
Leaving this life behind
And one last thing to the guy
Calling himself my ****ing dad
I'm better than you
And bull*****if I'm gonna let you haunt my mind

End of rhyme, I'm the one
Peacin' out this time.

What's Happening to Marriages Today

What’s Happening to Marriages Today?

I was listening to someone just the other day…
And I couldn’t believe what he had to say!

He had left his wife and children for another!
She was young enough to be his daughter!

Here they were, “in love” and holding hands!
Hoping to soon, get their “wedding bands!”

They were pretending that this was so “cool.”
Living now by their own “set of rules!”

How sick and disgusting this is getting to be!
Is this something that many can’t see?

God gave us Adam and Eve to become one.
To bear fruit through daughters and sons!

He gave us marriage as holy vows are made.
Not to march in an “adulterous parade!”

We are treading on very dangerous ground!
Faithfulness and commitment
are scarcely found!

The very definition of marriage is changing!
As the family unit is always rearranging!

Our only hope is in Jesus! And him alone!
Let’s promote his love! Into our hearts and home!

Let’s allow his love to be our heart’s glue!
And bring new meaning to the words; “I love you!”

May his love bind our hearts and lives together!
And remain faithful to each other forever!

THE CHOICE OF ONE'S HEART

Parents are very fierce on expectations by holding the rod....
they mean well, but they crush or ignore their teens' wishes;
not all are meant for professional careers, others choose trades
to express themselves in the best ways they know how.

My dad wanted me to be an aircraft engineer,
but I rebelled and chose a writing career;
I disappointed him a lot by disobeying...
but as much as I love airplanes, I prefer writing.

I envision those airplanes as thoughts traveling through space on floating clouds,
and they are lovely indeed...like the fearless birds flying past the hazy horizon;
I wonder how any pilot finds the courage to fly them without looking down...
I peaked through that window: all I saw was a blue Earth with majestic mountains.

Being a writer is not a guaranteed profession, or a tale from rags to riches...
its the happiest one, but it's full of personal satisfaction and self esteem;
there's none like it, and on that expectation, I've built my childhood long dream,
but the biggest thrill of all is to see your words translated in many languages.

Sadly, my dad passed away and his bitterness I recall with pain;
it wasn't an act of disobedience, but a matter of choice, or even worthiness,
and the choice of one's heart always seems to be the right one!
Can anyone among you see my refusal as betrayal, or a desire for greatness?

What's Done In Secret Will Come Out In the Open

What’s Done In Secret… Will Come Out In The Open! I’ve read God’s word, and it’s clearly spoken… What’s done in secret… Will come out in the open! I’ve been guilty of this, too many times! I never thought of it, to really be a “crime?” “Nobody’s watching” was the thought pondered… As my mind began to “explore and wander.” It didn’t take long for my life to go “off course.” By a powerful wind of temptation’s force! No matter how many times I took time to pray… This “secret” held on, and wouldn’t go away! I went to church on Sunday and prayed and cried. This “secret” remained, no matter how hard I tried! God told me, I was to give up what surrounded me! This was hard to do, but God was there to help me! Many things I thought I needed, to give me pleasure… Didn’t fulfill the love that God gave! An eternal treasure! As each day passes on… I want to humbly confess… I’m giving my life to God! He’ll take care of the rest! May the Lord Jesus stir a deep passion within… May it be my desire to be more like HIM! God is the God of yesterday, today and tomorrow! I’ve no secrets with him! No more shame or sorrow! Jesus is the Lord of lords! And the King of kings! He’s my lord and savior! My everything! By Jim Pemberton

Many Families Are In Difficult Situations

I’ve seen many families in difficult situations!
Often ending up in lies and false accusations!

I’ve seen many families stray way off course…
And tragically, often, end up in a divorce!

I’ve seen the hardships that many families endure.
Their faith has often been shaken.
 That’s for sure!

I’ve seen many families trying to give 100 percent.
And then wondering where all of their time went!

I’ve seen all these things happening
 and much more!
I have wondered; “what is all of this happening for?”

I’ve just one thing to say in this “chaotic confusion.”
Only the blood of Jesus gives
 any hope or solution!

It’s only in his word, we’ll find a godly direction!
His Holy Spirit can give true and loving correction!

May we seek his spirit to bind us all together!
And pray for his blood for our protection forever!

Please come Lord Jesus, and refresh our soul!
We need you right now, to make us whole!

Please touch our heart, and make us all one!
And heal every father, mother, daughter and son!

Please help us to watch what we’ll do and say!
You can turn our darkest night
 into the brightest day!

dreams into reality

I had a dream of you again tonight...that makes it about 3years strong....i wonder what the real thing will feel like...to hold you...to see you smile for the first time...the first time you cry...as i put my finger in your hand and you squeeze i wonder what joy will course through my veins...to say your name...to watch you sleep...to watch you as you try to figure out the world...will i miss your first words...or when you crawl...the first time you try to walk will i be there to catch you when you fall...your first birthday...will i be the dad you need me to be....will i fail...all these questions and the worst one i havnt even said....i hate to think it but it has came into my mind every once in a while...what if i never get to meet you...never have the chance to fail or succeed...to never watch you grow..to never have a chance to love you..to never be a father...what if my dreams never become reality....

The wicket-keeper

A lover I once knew, die today
he was alive yesterday
I never thought of him this way.
I never think about the rain
Unless it flood my drains,
my driveway, my rose garden
Or dampened my happy mood

Why would the death of my lover
Leave me so sad, and blue
Tender moment of affection: edgy days

Relationships have it up and downs
The past have been trouble: maybe I was wrong,
Probably he was right: however here tonight

A lover I once knew passed away today
My old lover the wicket-keeper:
The one I uses to love the most: an distant lover

On my father's life

Woke up and read
“On My Father’s Life”
by Raymond Carver.
Thought about Kentucky
and Dad with his shirt off,
sweating in a chilly morning
of March, digging
for a fence post.
The poor bastard,
to share a name
and lose a photograph.

It's seems like I've
lost something too.
My father isn’t dead
to space, but it’s been years.
And to share a name,
after all this time.
It's all he has share.

Are We Being Driven to God's Elimination

Are We Being Driven to God’s Elimination? In the names of diversity and anti-discrimination. It’s like we’re being driven to God’s elimination! God is being “forced” from many institutions! All in the name of this country’s constitution! We’re told that God and this country must be “separated.” Anything less is what many would call; “discriminated.” Any forms of Godly virtues or values are “torn down.” Any symbol of a cross, is often “removed from the town.” It’s no wonder that this country’s in such a big mess! And yet this country wants to be strong and blessed? “What shall the righteous do if the foundations are destroyed?” Meanwhile, the tide of ungodliness, is often “enjoyed.” Those who are trying to remove God! You must beware! His judgment is soon coming! And will catch you unaware! There’s will come a day! When God’s wrath you will endure! The wages of sin is death! This is very true and sure! People may think that removing God is the “thing to do.” Anyone who attempts to do will wind up as “a fool.” Only God can fill the void in life and true love within! Only he has the power to free your soul from sin! The words; “in God we trust,” in our lives must be applied! Everything we’ll ever need… God has supplied! God is this country’s hope! It’s only true foundation! We need HIM right now! To come and heal our nation! By Jim Pemberton

A Dad In The Past

He asks me all the time
Mom why did you leave dad behind
I told him it was never the plan but, you dad is not ready to be a real man
Like attend doctor's appointment or take you to the park
Or a trip to the beach to play in the sand
Or make trips in your room to turn on the night light because your scared of the dark
On Christmas and birthdays no cards or no toys
But the worst part of it all you never even call and when you do your a lying fool
Making promises that you know you will break
How much more do you think we can take
So I'm ending this now for my son's sake
Your a dad in the past and your lies were a blast

I AM

This is a poem by my 9 year old son Dylan.

I am a smart kid and a techno geek
I wonder how far space goes on
I hear a dinosaur roar
I see my dog that passed away
I want to see my grandpa
I am a smart kid and a techno geek

I pretend to have one million dollars
I feel my dad hugging me
I touch my mom's brownies
I worry about my parents
I cry when summer's over
I am a smart kid and a techno geek

I understand that my dad has to be deployed
I say aliens exist
I dream that I'm being attacked by a sea serpent
I try to make my life the best
I hope my brother has a good education
I am a smart kid and a techno geek.

People may think that removing God is the “thing to do.” Anyone who attempts to do will wind up as “a fool.” Only God can fill the void in life and true love within! Only God has the power to free your soul from sin! The words; “in God we trust,” in our lives must be applied! Everything we’ll ever need… God has supplied! God is this country’s hope! It’s only true foundation! We need HIM right now! To come and heal our nation! By Jim Pemberton

Adin

When I was just a young lad.
I recall going with my Dad,
To visit older folks in town;
Those who had no family around.
Adin was one we would stop in and see,
A lonely man, much older than either Dad or me.
His "house" was but a one room shack;
Indoor plumbing was one thing it did lack.
A bed, two chairs, and one small table;
As for cooking meals I don't recall if he was able.
He was tall, and gaunt, and very slim,
Yet somehow, I was never afraid of him.
How Dad first met him I do not know.
Had he been a relative, Dad would have told me so.
Don't know what Adin did when he was younger.
Probably some farming to avert hunger.
I don't think he had kids, or a wife,
But he had endured quite a life!
He died shortly after I left home,
To commence my life out on my own.
I came across his gravestone today,
And it gave me cause to stop and pray.
Was he a Christian? I haven't a clue!
I'm thankful we did what God enabled us to do.
When a man lives his life, and is nearing the end,
I think, at the least, he deserves a couple of friends!
Do you know someone who is alone?
Take time to visit, and let Christ's Love be shown.
I'm glad for the privilege of knowing this man,
And that,--even then-- I was useable in God's great plan!

Brownie's Calf

On those endless rides of childhood
Down trails of dark and light,
There are those that you remember
And those that haunt your night.

The green fresh days of farm and ranch
When you raised your first sow—
The flowing sea of bluestem grass,
The calf that was your cow.

You helped give life to Brownie’s calf
Or least so you did hope,
By helping tug its leg around—
Holding that bloody rope.

Then Dad said you could have that calf
To feed just like your own,
Then Brownie’s calf became your pet—
A friend when you’re alone.

Yet, you were big enough to know
The fate of each old cow,
Yet you knew this was different—
But you weren’t sure just how.

And so one day Brownie came home
And her calf was not there,
Then did the same, time and again—
But that calf was no where.

Now Brownie’s calf had gone away,
But you weren’t sure just where—
So Dad and you searched the far fields
In hopes you’d find her there.

Then to some woods and creek you came
Where birds flew overhead
And then the smell of that calves flesh
Told you that she was dead.

You turned and ran back to the ranch—
Sought out old Brownie’s face—
And knew that life is just a chance
But for our good Lord’s grace.

What About Me

I was told yesterday
That someone else will come and forever stay

At first, I was a little confused
Because I didn't understand the news

A few months later, I looked at my mother
And thought to myself, 'what's happening to her?'

They tell me I can't do this or that with her
We don't have fun together anymore, I wish she'd get better

Two more months went by
Then she was rushed to the hospital with pain and I wasn't told why

My dad put me in the car and drove so fast
Finally, we reached the hospital at last

My dad ran and he ran and he ran
He went to the back while I sat with family members and waited patiently not
knowing what's at hand

After two days of me and dad being alone
She was back home

This time with someone else
And I realize that it will no longer be me by myself

In the house they come with a little baby
They bypass me and I thought to myself, 'what about me?'

Days have gone by
And so many people have come, but passed me by

I no longer have fun with my mom and dad
So I go in my room to be alone and sad

The next day, grandma and grandpa came to see the baby
Again, I was bypassed

But this time I came out and asked
"What about me?"

Everyone was taken by surprise
I repeated myself and sat there and cried

They all came running to comfort me
And explained to me about the baby
And most of all that they didn't forget about me
