Loony Tunes

< Cascading lakes and streams
The loon stands out it seems

                                           Minnesota's state bird
I know it must sound absurd

                                           Adopted in nineteen sixty one
Wails and yodels heard under the sun

Black and white bearing red eyes
Wingspans five feet can make one cry

Body lengths up to three feet
Yet clumsy on lands and moss peat

                                          They are high speed flyers
                                          And great underwater divers

They can dive up to ninety feet
In pursuit of fish they want to eat

They are even on our license plates
An critical habitat drawn on metal slates

Twelve thousand of these unique birds
God that has to be a lot of turds

But for now I'll enjoy it's captured views
Of this beautiful loon and it's most colorful hues

A LIMERICK CHRISTMAS THREE (3) .

Mrs. Santa on last Christmas Eve
Was so naughty , at trying to deceive.
Not the slightest bit coy
When she met her toy~boy....
Now , believe what YOU want to believe .

Rudolf the randy raindeer
Took his lady friend out for a beer.
Then he took off his clothes.
Showed~off his red nose..
Saying.. who the hell said, I was queer...

What's the worst place at Christmas to be ?
Perhaps a turkey~dish laced with gravy....
It's more painful and airy
To be some poor fairy
With your +++ on the top of the tree .

A COOL YULE , TO ALL YOU GOOD SOUPERS.....

THANKSGIVING TURKEY

They organized a church bazaar,
To raise money for the poor.
A booth for selling chances
Was set up, outside the door.

When I bought the raffle ticket,
My reasoning was murky,
And I could only just believe it,
When I won that doggone turkey.

Now, the kids were all excited
When we brought the critter home.
So we placed him in the barnyard,
Where he'd have lots of room to roam.

Since the date was late October,
I'm quite sure you understand,
That to have him for Thanksgiving
Was my awe inspiring plan.

Well, the turkey was no birdbrain,
As I was very soon to find.
That bird knew what I was thinking;
Why, I declare, he read my mind.

I let the children care for him,
To my most profound regret--
He turned on his charming manner,
And, quickly, he became their pet.

But that fact did not deter me,
I told myself it didn't matter.
I was dead set and determined
To see that gobbler on a platter.

When the kids perceived my purpose,
They turned on the tears and pleas.
Then, the wife joined in their chorus,
And that brought me to my knees.

So I told my grieving family
They could dry up, and relax.
I concealed my disappointment--
Went and put away the axe.

Came the dinner of Thanksgiving,
Not a sad face could be found.
And our live Thanksgiving turkey
Was the gladdest bird around.

We gathered around the table,
And I humbly asked the blessing--
While Tom gobbled down his corn, outside,
We had hotdogs and dressing.

The Arizona Heat ---Tagged!!!

The heat of summer makes her brain gelatin
The Arizona sun turns her into a skeleton
Time and space she does not put to waste
Really, this poet lady is one of great taste

Iced tea and lemonade in the Arizona sunlight
Create an atmosphere for her that’s just right
Ink just drying on her newly crafted poem
Always ready to rate on the pole of totem

Tall she stands with stature in poet's land
Only doing right waving her magic wand
Leading other poets to higher heights
Lovely readings are on her poetic site

Everyone should look in her poetic bag
What? Jill Martin, you are now tagged!

Comments: Okay Jill, I was tagged by Tamiviolet Manchas. As a result, I have to
pass the tag along. Your name is on the top of the list. Your poetry is just
wonderful! Now, you must find a poet whose poetry you enjoy reading, and tag
that poet with a poem. Man, this is so much fun! Chau!

First Day In December

I woke up this morning to a white glow
Outside it has dropped a white blanket of snow
I want to make a snowman named Joe
He shall have a red hat on, he becomes easy to know
It's cold and it's starting to blow
I rush into my house, it's cold on my toe

SHOPPING TIME - PLASTIC CARD

                                                     First time ....
                                               Back in the pocket
                                                The second time ....
                                                    Up in the bag
                                                     Third time ....
                                             Starting to feel the heat
                                                   Fourth time ....
                                               Down in the handbag
                                                    The fifth time ....
                                                     I'm a little tired
                                                       Sixth time ....
                                             Once again into the pocket
                                                      Seventh time .....
                                                  I soon start to glow
                                                       Eigth time ....
                                            Once again into the handbag
                                                        Ninth time ....
                                                   Now I'm really hot
                                                  Tenth time .... (Phu...)

Santas' Gears

Christmas is in the air,
Santa is getting prepared,
Trying to fit into last years suit feels weird,
A little more weight that's what I feared,
Trying to get into his pants he tore the rear,
Getting into his jacket,rip,rip,arms tear,
Exposing Santa tall white hair,
Ho,ho,ho,I am not scared,
Snapping his fingers,Rudolph appears,
I have the best tailor in this hemisphere,
Hi,ho,away,I'm off to fix my gears,,,

Springtime In The Rockies

Spring in all its splendor has arrived - what a pleasant relief!
The grass has greened and the trees have begun to leaf!
Robins have returned and cheerily serenade me at the break of dawn.
Alas, those pesky dandelions scourge my pristine, emerald lawn!

The golden sun greets daffodils awakening from hibernation,
And colorful tulips blossom, beautifying God's grand Creation!
Pastel blooms of many hues adorn my cherry and apple trees.
Lord, please spare them from the usual late springtime freeze!

The roses were pruned and ample fertilizer was spread.
The snowblower was gladly stored securely in the shed.
The mower was serviced and its blade was finely honed.
Tomorrow the lawn must be mowed - it cannot be postponed!

But hold on! This morn I'm greeted with a grim surprise!
Drifting snow is piled as high as my shivering thighs!
Yesterday 'twas seventy degrees, now I shovel snow in coat and hat!
Fiddlefaddle! So much for Springtime in the Rockies and all of that!

During Springtime in the Rockies 'tis common modus operandi,
To keep the John Deere snowblower and lawnmower handy.
"Just wait ten minutes, the weather'll change" is an apt old saw,
As my lawnmower idles and I impatiently wait for the snow to thaw!

The Haunted House and The Halloween Mouse

One day at a haunted house....
You'll never guess what I saw!!!
Well, it was a great big ghost...
Coming out of the wall!

The ghost just stared at me...
So I gawked at it too..
And I thought..."It just couldn't be?!!"
Until that sucker said BOO-O-O!!

After it said BOO! to me!
I ran all the way up the stairs!
And guess what else...."I did see!"
Ghosts nearly everywhere!!

Then at me a came a flying!!
They kept on yelling BOO!!
I almost felt like crying...
Until I yelled my BOO-O-O-O-O!!!!

After I yelled my BOO!!!!
You should've seen them run!
Now let me tell you!
I've never had so much fun!!

So then I left that old haunted house...
And went walking down the street..
When up to me came a little mouse...
And the mouse said..."Trick or Treat!"

So I asked the mouse.."What's with this Trick or Treat?"
"Just what the heck do ya mean?"
And the mouse said...."Give me something to eat!"
"Don't ya know sucker it's Halloween!!"

Portrait of Lily Rainbow

Written by Gail DeBole

Lily Rainbow, a summertime freak,
Was as bold as a mouse is meek.
    After caught in the rain,
She lived up to her name
With a gold pot tattooed on her cheek.

Thunderstruck Sunshine

The clouds shook
A thick, black, very wet blanket out
In the Southeastern quadrant
Of the New Mexico firmament,
Complete with lightning
And growling, crackling,
Massive basso-profundo sound effects,
Inviting the sun to rest,
Take a load off,
Reeellaaaxxx!

Abrasively radiant,
Helios glared a brilliant, heated, passionate,
Steamy smile
Into the arid monsoon skies

And refused Storm’s invitation
To lie down and go to bed

February Funny Bone

Once came along a groundhog named Phil
Looked for shadow in winters chill
                                         Even top hat and coat
                                         Didn't stop whining's gloat

Mum's Christmas Dinner

She stays awake for hours, cutting Xs in the sprouts,
Then peels all the tatties, a ton or thereabouts,
Slicing and dicing parsnips is next up in the plan,
Chops up carrots and a swede, and put them in a pan,
Mixes up her sage and onion and stuffs it in the bird,
Along with some pork sausage meat that’s been pre-prepared,
She takes apart the oven, to fit the turkey in,
Hangs it up with bits of string, there’s no room in the tin,
Wraps sausages in bacon, in case they catch a chill,
But makes sure they‘re all cooked thoroughly, so the family won’t get ill,
Cooks the bird for hours, while the table’s being laid,
With all the finest crockery (and some of lower grade),
Makes space around the table, brings in extra chairs,
Adorns the place with candles and other Christmas wares,
Lays out a Christmas cracker in everybody’s place,
Complete with rather tacky joke, no doubt of a straight face,
And brings out all the condiments, the pickles and the sauce,
The salt and pepper, the mustard and radish known as “horse”,
Next she makes the starter, the simplest course by far,
A cocktail made up of prawns and a sauce out of a jar.
The family then all piles in, and argues over seats,
The children are already full of chocolates and treats,
Grandmother is mumbling, “Kids should be seen not heard”,
Meanwhile back in the kitchen Mum’s wrestling with the bird,
She tries to carve up slices, but ends up with turkey chunks,
While Dad and Gramps have become a pair of Christmas drunks,
They start an argument about which wine goes with the meat,
And restless children run around, not staying in their seat,
Mother tries to keep her calm and bravely soldiers on,
But the roasties are all blackened and the sprouts are over done,
Mum enters the dining room looking very puffed,
She throws the turkey down and shouts ,“There you go! Get stuffed!”

See Monkey See

The new year has arrived
With a new format for the brain
Made promises to myself
Made with intentions to keep

All the ones of the past
Now gone with an old year
One now at rest
One I gave all my best

New patterns
New people
New thoughts
New harbor
New begin
New me

Now like the old saying
It's time to
"See Monkey See"

Two Merry Leaves

They danced and they turned and they tumbled
In wind, how it sighed and it grumbled
With force, how it howled in its fury
But still they bore no trace of worry

In cool autumn winds they cavorted
My foot! How they laughed and they sported
They flew through the air just like pheasants
Till set in my excellent presence

“Red Leaf,” quoth I unto the leader
“To fly, there is nothing more neater
But weren’t you the least bit affrighted
As thus from the breeze you alighted?”

“Dear sir,” quoth the leaf as he flitted
“To fear, for a leaf ain’t permitted
We’re taught from a bud in the cradle
That even a crash isn’t fatal.”

“I say,” quoth I unto the yellow
“You seem to be such a neat fellow
I wonder how likes you this sporting
Or if you a damsel are courting?”

Quoth he, “All this sporting is splendid
The days of my courting are ended
My lover has flown to the northward
While I am constrained to fly southward.”

Before one more word could be spoken
The peace of that moment was broken
Away flew those leaves o’er the treeses
Borne by the chill autumn breezes

Sadness of November

Nights bring longer darkness, all I want to do is sleep,

Outside the weather worsens, the snow will soon be deep.

Vines heavy with grapes await to be made into ice wine,

Each headache after, is worth it, from the nectar so sublime.

Making pumpkin pie and sipping apple cider - ACHOO!

Better make chicken soup too, now I’ve got the Flu.

Everything is warning me that old man winter is on its way,

Recognizing this sad reality, oh yes, its also another birthday!

Introspection

I wake for start of new day to find all nature stirring.
The bumble bee and humming bird around the feeder whirring.
The russet breasted robin has caught the early worm.
He'll feed it to his lady love before the final squirm.

Across the way the flower field is filled with willing workers.
Spring in my valley scurries on, it is no place for shirkers.
Not long ago I too was part of frantic interaction.
I watch with cup of coffee and a sigh of satisfaction.

I've served my time, no need to rise to annoying alarm.
Without me spring will carry on, I've rented out the farm.
The days whern I met life head-on is part of history.
In my newly welcomed leisure I let life come to me.

THE PARTY GUEST

THE PARTY GUEST

 On a cold December night
In a moody light and sweet
In a blizzard blinding white
O’Leary rambled down the street
Cheery to be out with friends
Whistling songs’ forgotten ends
Joy of Christmas weeks to come
Crashing parties with gin rum
On his way to Brother Ned’s
Stumbled into Neighbor Fred’s
Mennorah lights bid him indoors
Saw people bustling in their chores
Hazy from a street of punch
He helped himself to plates of lunch
Woke up from a boozy snooze
Cried “Who invited all these Jews?”

Based on my room mate family's lore about a guy who wandered into a Chanukah party

May capture bears play
Or foxes cock-eyed walk walk walk
Down by waters bay

High in trees you'll hear owls owls owls
Just more feathered friends
But I love water fowls fowls fowls
So let's not this end

Miss Hood cried big bad wolf wolf wolf
I just stared and laughed
Seeing deer prints from hoofs hoofs hoofs
Think she's needs skunks bath

THE LEAF-PAVED PATH

Toddlers played in dry sand
Hot sun made each cheek red
Ellen was their likable friend
Long before winter came
Enjoyed evenings with them
Always refusing to rest
Fireflies were a child's game
Puppies chased them with haste
Aunt Lily was often bitten by bugs smelling perfume
Vera told her not to scratch
Eddy laughed hard as Mitch
Daniel loved to startle the busy bees
People stopped to watch the comedy of pet peeves
Across the leaf-paved path of ripe strawberries
Torrents washed away all the pretty greens
Hurricane Isaac made them flee quicker than thieves

Pumpkins

Pretty fall colors carved and decorated
Understandably the best in a cream covered pie
My favorite flavor is the cheesecake
Plump and lumpy or perfectly orange
Kill it with a shotgun after halloween
I love to watch the scrambled pieces fly in the air
Never let the Jack o lantern go to waste!!
Seeds left on the ground, grow next year!

A night of shadows

As she lays sweating under the hot, yet
comforting blanket she bites her lip, balls
her hands into her fists just to keep from
screaming and falling to sleep.

Dancing on her walls are the shadows!
Shadows you couldn't even imagine they
seem to be grinning at her as if they knew
something she did not know.

Do they know something are they trying
to tell her what there is to come?
She can hear someone or something
calling her now; she does not know what
it is and does not want to know either.

As the voice gets closer it becomes more
frightening and louder and louder.
Slowly the tears dwell up in her eyes and
than burst rolling down her like a balloon
ready to pop.

Several hours ago by the windows she saw
'ghoulish' activity, her eyes are heavy fighting
to stay awake a little longer so she will know
when every thing ends.

She falls asleep to wake up later realizing
that it was not a dream but 'Halloween'.

Me and The tree

I look at this tree-
which quite frankly reminds me of me.
Strong, firm, flows so beautifully.

My moods are like the leaves-
forever changing so colorfully.
At times my hearts feels like, after the coldest winter for a tree .
and it takes timefor me to rebuild my beauty.
It can flow as gently as the leaves...
during a strong summer's breeze.

With the nuturing care of God's hands and his air,
I survive with all the obstacles God gives...
I'm strong and firm, my skins like bark it relives.
But... their is one thing that is different;
between me and tree.
and that's the tree is guaranteed to out live me.

A Halloween Scene

Close your windows; draw the blinds as day turns into night
Shut your door and wrap up warm with a bedside table light

Close your eyes and try to sleep but also stay aware
As what may happen in the night could seem like a nightmare

You'll start to hear the sounds of souls, moaning cries and screams
You sneak a peek around yourself but nothing is as it seems

From the ceiling drip by drip and down the walls it flows
Pools of blood soaked in the rug to ooze between your toes

Ghastly ghouls and grimacing ghosts trapped within their doom
Creep and crawl under your bed and float around your room

They'll slide over your covers and slither in-between
As they wriggle to whisper in your ear...

Have a happy Hallowe'en!!!

Springtime Love

Springtime can't come soon enough!
It melts away the snows.
It wakes up many flowers,
like the Marigold and Rose.

Dew drops form on all the leaves,
of bushes, grass, and trees.
Vines are climbing up the walls,
there's an Apple-scented, breeze!

Robins, in the tree tops,
are singing loud and clear!
The sun is shining warm and bright,
it's my favorite time of year!

Spring, is such a pleasant time,
so beautiful to see!
I'd make Springtime last all year,
if it were up to me!

That's just wishful thinkin',
but I wish it could be true!
Spring doesn't have the drawbacks,
that the other seasons do!

To be completely honest, though,
the most important reason,
why I love Springtime, so much,
it's the start of Baseball Season!

Why The Sun Works to Rule

At 10 A.M on Friday 13th July The Sun emerged from a cloud. After five minutes shining bright thought, 'Sod this, I'm going back to bed. right now' The Weather King called up Rain But only got an answer phone. Thor the God of thunder, was sick in bed. An accident with a hammer it was thought. Try as he might, the Weather King Could not find someone to replace The stubborn immovable Sun. Who was now working to rule. A better deal was his demand. It was agreed for shorter hours And if Sun was late rising Overcast would cover the time. Longer holidays was also agreed. Fourty-eight to fifty weeks per year. So if you want to see Summer Sun. Don't blink when looking in England, Because he might not be there.

Halloween Horror

Gobblins and ghosts flew by last night
They woke me up with a terrible fright
Chasing monsters and gouls away from the lights
I wish someone would teach them to stay out of site

But all the ghosts were by the gobblins sides
The witches were taking them all out for rides
From roof to tree to street
A big race to see who could be beat

They were all so noisey it made Frankeinstein hide
And those witches never drive down the street on just on side
They just switch lanes while in flight
Left then Right then left then right
Back, forth, left, right, never deciding on just one dive
 Up down, zig zag.. zoosh
Looking out my bedroom window even made my sides moosh

Kangaroos look funny in horns and underoos

Nothing like the holidays down under…
So many sweets to taste and plunder…
Mistletoe hung over head…
Sweet dreams in our slumbering bed…

The jolly man shimmying down
The hot family hearths
Not making a sound making his rounds
Asbestos underwear protecting his parts

The sweaty old boy in red
Cursing the heat of points this far south
While blimey citizens are snug in bed
Explicatives flowing from his mouth

Merry Christmas to all those down under
And happy New Year a day bloody sooner
Having no snow is a god awful blunder
The whole island should be sat in a corner!

Prepare for Winter

Winter arrives upon the wind,
bringing arctic climate to mind.

Flora loses petals and leaves;
fauna secures food from thieves.

Nature reminds what’s to be done,
before Jack Frost begins his fun.

I should take these lessons in hand,
even if the actions are bland.

Soon, I need to seal my window,
before I freeze to my pillow.

THE WISHING WELL OF A SUN-RISE,

It is...within the tiny things of early morning, that moment breaths alive, it is within the tiny whisperings, that a melodye plays...like the very dear and the antelope, play home on the range.

so goes the melodye of heart beat, that plays quietly the songs of soul,

here a rhyme is born of day-light coming so soon, through the early morning eyes of the moon-light, and the starry dreams of twilight's transitioning...

into the light of a love letter written to dawn.

soul to soul conversing, as in this love letter, the letters just join hands with the words and just march across the sky...and at the end of the rainbow, there be plenty of golden time,

way down deep on the inside,

...as the inspired choir, of a bumble bee, or a butterfly, starts to sing, like tiny things that live,

flower to flower,
blossom to bloom,

watered and deeply cared for...

O' Eden.

I say, deep beneath the surface of a wishing well...where the pennies lay,

I wish a sun-rise.

Digging Out

Three cups of espresso
I was raring to go
Grabbed the shovel
Out into the snow

Slipped in a hole
Sunk up to my knees
In spite of my gloves
My fingertips freeze

I have the brush
Start swiping at snow
Trying to find
The windshield below

Turn on the car
Let it defrost
Don't drop anything !
'til Spring it'd be lost

Thirty minutes later
I can see my whole car
Start shoveling to the road
Thank God it's not far

Put the car in low gear
Drive forward to the street
Reverse to my spot
Then twice more repeat

My new winter tires
Finally get used
But with two feet of snow
I'm less than amused

The path now is made
I go back inside
Admire my handiwork
With chilly pride

Glad to be off work
On this snowy day
Tomorrow I'll be ready
To just drive away

Hoping that's it
Winter's had its fun
Bring on the Spring !
Bring on the sun !

Autumn's Mellow Fruitfulness

This summer was so crazy with a drought but still where mosquitoes multiplied.
And we’re leaving behind a hurricane that attacked the Midwest from all sides.
The crops were lost as months of over 100-degree temperatures, drove us hard.
They were Months that steadily held us captive within our own house doors.

I was soooo looking forward to Autumn where every thing would step aside.
I was dreaming of cool nights so mellow and days where I could walk my dog.
Yes, where the dogs feet and our shoe bottoms, would not be melting off.
Where leaning over the fence while talking to neighbors could be done.

But then, BOOM, along came Autumn, and I do mean with a capital B-O-O-M!
Our acorn tree decided for the first time in 30 years…to go forth and bloom...
And the gumball tree with its little spikes, doesn’t ever want, to be outdone.
The trees are very old and big at more than three stories high, you know…

I shouldn’t have watered them soooo much during the drought and heat, with glee.
For those cute little acorns are now shooting off the trees at mock ten, I do believe.
They hit the house and ground, then ricochet with a force that makes me grieve.
Dozens come down, at a time, bouncing with speeds even planes can’t achieve.

Umbrellas don’t seem to work as they bounce off the house and patio below…
Lord…help me Jesus… I say, as I dodge back and forth, under the rain below…
My dogs won’t go outside… and even my birds have moved a few yards down…
To a more docile terrain we’re all bound, as we were steadily run, off ground.

Even the squirrels stopped trying to bury them, and have left it all behind, so forlorn.
They're hanging a few doors down as my ground has become, wall-to-wall acorns.
Acorns have hit with so much force, that I’ve had to cover my windows for once.
I no longer sit by my window to write… Yep… Bazinga! Won, with a vengeance...

Once the acorns finally end…the spiky gumballs will be gleefully awaiting, to begin.
I’m looking forward to winter, though I begin to believe it’ll be an unusual clincher.
As I’ve learned to say… You never know when life will send you a… Bazinga!
And that... sometimes Autumn's fruitfullness isn't so mellow after all.

Woodlot Diarys

A statesman oak, in fall he spoke to brethren of the wood. Windblown vowels and fluttering jowls deciduous he stood. Calm and serene he argued green for change, said change is good. The Sugar Pine stepped out of line and said he never would. The Sumac said, "I'll show you red!" and red indeed he showed, The Maple leered and, snobbish, sneered "And I will show you gold!" Mulberry trees, devoid of leaves, held transient feathered fruit. But winter breeze chased birds and leaves; it stripped them crown to root. "Oak," said Pine, "you should resign, you've left your fellows bare! I can assure no conifer would oh, so badly err." "Pine," said Oak, "I won't be broke My way is more than fair. Needles catch snow, and green will grow when spring is in the air."

the rabbit -part one-

(literary nonsense)
the winter was so long ago, burying the world in snow
rabbits hop where rabbits go, here i sit to-night
and the day i hath long dreaded which hath left me much beheaded
worn my sanity unthreaded as i sought the sun's warm light
said the rabbit, hopping past, to my thoughtless face aghast, "lanterns are a great delight."

but my mind hath never shown me, nor my pinched, weak thoughts have grown me
anything which should beknown me: that a rabbit never talks
of a lantern, never falters in his steps to break the halters of the sacrifice on alter (of the wolf who nightly stalks)
just to speak to one who sulks under skies my soul doth mock

have you ever seen a rabbit come to break his daily habit and commence to speak as if it mother nature's natural norm?
and if by chance he mentions 'lantern' just to break your flurried pattern just to knock you off your rocker whilst you dream away a storm
does it leave you cold or warm to have a rabbit which informs?

if you haven't it is likely that you would not see me brightly
but you'd find me quite unsightly as most men find the plain insane
if you have i think you'd find it quite amusing for behind it
there's a joke that doesn't mind it, for jokes minding is inane
still i laugh at my poor brain for losing every bit of sane (to see a rabbit speak is strange)

and if i could see it logically; if possible biologically, i might function neurologically, but remember, brain twas dead
and the sky was growing longer, growing longer, ever grayer, and my mind was never stronger for i lacked a bit of bread
and the rabbit's words he said, hopping circles in my head

still it was that long i pondered, of a rabbit, yes i wondered, speaking to me while he wandered of a lantern bringing joy
and so to a barn i stumbled while the distant thunder rumbled and i felt so very humbled, being, a moment,a rabbit's toy
and i, my words, employed, to ask a lantern from a boy

it was kind of him to light it, and i journeyed back, excited, to the place where i was seated, seated in the dark of night
and there, i sat and waited with my trembling breath bated, and my mind was still sedated with the numbing lack of light
there i sat waiting in the night to catch the rabbit in my sight

A STYLE OF ATTRACTIVENESS

Young and middle-aged ladies, who wear sundresses
when summer days sizzle, make the opposite sex notice
how lovely and sexy their soft skin is; curious guys,
of course, can't help staring at them...not once but twice!

Watch them chatting on a bench of a park,
or just strolling down a busy street...
pushing their baby's stroller in the July's heat;
come closer to hear their silly talk!

Jan, my niece's friend, attracts me like no lady ever can,
she wears a colorful sundress she made herself,
and she talks funny to make everybody laugh;
some thinks she's crazy, but I'd love to be her man!

Many women go to great lengths to get one of these...
the one that makes them stand out and get winks
from men who are easily distracted in the baseball's field:
they wish their wives looked like that...more strength they'd yield!

Fashion models draw admirable glances from an applauding crowd,
but they wear sundresses for recognizition, not for their soulmates;
so ordinary ladies wear them to find that ideal boyfriend or husband,
and admit among yourselves that it is a style of attractiveness!

Autumn Splendor

Horizons painted orange and red and yellow and gold, Means there will be added garbage bags to fill and fold. Temperatures cool and people begin to move inside, Soon Influenza is at its peak, you’ve no place to hide. Flu shots may help, but you seem to get sick anyways, Rainy wet weather, dull and dreary, much shorter days. Doesn’t sound like splendor - outstanding and grand, But I still think its the best season, please let me expand, There’s good things and bad that comes with autumn, The splendor for me, is more clothes to cover my bottom.

the Sun of Summer

Summer's sun shily entered the season
keeping the Northern Hemisphere's Southern regions
comfortable, a spirit quite forgettable.

Deep down, everyone knows
it's just a matter of time, till it shows
its true color upon all living creatures.

And August went on fire, sweating out
all the anger ever held - burnt out
to a crisp, wisp of hot air, ceasing to exist.

What was it that blew out of proportion?
apathy, perhaps, making us anxious
wishing for things to matter, sense-filling?

Needs to happen before Autumn comes
knocking on the door, our hearts gone numb?
Our lips parched, our skin wrinkled, dried.

This wave of heat has turned us into beggars,
barren of pride, destitute, pining for the waters
Looting from anything wet, loosing footing, falling.

Our eyes then lift up as one to the heavens
sunfilled, tearing, realizing pray is a better manner
our hands grab another, another, another.

We wait in faith, we sing, we dance for rain,
what transpired in the hearts shines like sunrays
and the heavens can't help but open its door.

Thunder clouds gather, noses smell what's about to happen
faces brighten into smiles, watching the descent of water
our thirst becomes assuaged with its pure flavor.

And the new morning issues, the incredible breaking news.

To me it seems to be unkind

Country Christmas

“Country Christmas Carol” --- dedicated to my family

by Miriam McCue (creator of flamingo art, & poetry.so far.)

We love to sing Christmas songs,
My Grandson Bubba and I.
And when we sing Country Christmas.
We almost make the angels cry.

A Merry Country Christmas
To all those great Country Folk,
And even to the City Slickers,
Who also love to drink and smoke.

We’ll take a drink for Bubba, Aunt Mike and Cousin Jim,
And hope that this Christmas,
They’ll say a prayer and sing a hymn.

Gather round the still,
Country People all.
 And hold up Uncle Bill
So the old coot doesn’t fall.

A Merry Country Christmas,
One full of country joy.
Little Willie wanted a 12 gauge,
But all he got was a toy.

Springtime with Edouard Manet

Easter is a time where we construe
The beauty of renewal blooming through
Little birds that chirp above the vales
While sweeter ladies peep at passing males

Charming is the humour passing round
Faint scent of Tulips, Daffodils abound
Strolling couples giggle by a stream
Planning the delights they like to dream

Gazebos filled with bands that blow their brass
Shiny belts and buckles, best in class
‘Le déjeuner sur l'herbe’ a luncheons treat
A very Manet way in which to meet

Ah Easter is a time for daring stuff
Two clothed men that dine with naked fluff
At last the joys of springtime are revealed
Milk white flesh and precious else concealed

A Glurmy Gleepcious Glorp

I plurm and glorp with every breath
My existence defies and deifies death

I splurp and glomph amongst your days
Indistinguishable from mud and haze
I slig and slorg, a dark breamy blaze
with unctuous vim I sleam through your days
and go about my large gorptious ways

Slimy, I slawl in shades of grey
leaving glossful drippings to mark my way
and make your life gang aft agley
as I spream and slorl in spurious ways
and glurm and gleep with hideous gaze
I sleam and glort in vorptious dark ways

‘Til you come undone
And my sporphing’s won!

My job’s complete – I’ve sprunked your flaze
My job is done, I’ve gronked your days!

the rabbit -part two-

(literary nonsense)
quite early in the morrow i felt the sun warm me to the marrow and the light of it eased sorrow which had clouded up my brain
and i harked back to last night where i sat and mulled my plight when a rabbit said delight was brought by lanterns, in the rain
and infused in my poor brain was the thought i was insane

how is a lantern a delight? but if you carry it in night, it chases away the things which fright, ah! the lantern is a light
though the flame from which it comes is never known to come from sun, it's a light, if ever one has seen one in the night
and i stretched myself so slight and knocked over this said light

and it was i had forgotten that the lantern still was burning and inside my stomach churning as i watched the flames arise
and a rabbit softly spoken hopped my way and laid his token though it wasn't so a token as i'd thought when first that night
as i panicked this demise, the grass burning 'fore my eyes

still the rabbit stood there stately, thumped his foot, did not berate me, but said another, lately, as I tried to stomp the fire
and i listened to him speaking, and the words that he was saying, and i couldn't help but fraying all the edges of my temper
for he said without a whisper, a thing which made my fury blister: "water is a great delight"

The Road is a Circle

One road alone under my feet,
no apology could surmount the facts
of the wear and tear of the street
that the Roman fleet
put their spiked tracks
there’s no road that’s less traveled by here
just one that keeps turning right

Time has anchored
On the covered ground
I stumbled looking up and round
eternal hour-glass of existence
Will be turned again and again
And you with it

I can say this with a grin
for now and evermore
one road alone under my feet
and I-
I took the road that has made no difference

There is no fork,
just a big fucken circle.

Indian Summer

Indian Summer

The poppy said "No",
The nasturtiums said "Wait"
The seedlings were jumping at the gate;

"We have to get through Winter first,"
The old oak spoke, and everyone burst.
The pansies nodded in assent,
With a great deal of sentiment.

He looked down sadly at his girth,
Smiling wryly with perfect mirth;
"Ten more years is all I am worth".

He glanced at the herbs tenderly wilting
And spoke as though his heart were melting
"We have to be patient and wait for Spring,
And there's the catch, it's a learning thing".

"I won't make promises I can't keep
And we all know Winter will put us to sleep".

Summer will rise again, in all it's glory,
And that for now, is the end of my story.

More than weather, can be frightful or Unseasonal Christmas

Used to be the weather was frightful
People covered themselves from head to toe
Now, despite the fact it’s Christmas season
I see more sand, than I see snow
The temperatures keep on elevating
To the moon, they just seem to rise
Oh, where is the Christmas of yesterday
The rosy cheeks, windows fogged with ice

It’s just too warm now for Christmas
Too hot to shop, too hot to run around
Santa’s working at the pole in a speedo
That’s nothing, we wanna see come to town

Frosty, it seems we’re not gonna see him
Heat miser, now, has gotten his day
Can’t ole Jack Frost do something about this
And chase the warm weather away
No need to chop wood set for burning
The heated air replaces that in the hearth
I hope it gets cold and very soon, too
Because Christmas puts warmth in everyone’s heart

It’s just too warm now for Christmas
Too hot to shop, too hot to run around
Santa’s working at the pole in a speedo
That’s nothing, we wanna see come to town

Oh, when Christmas day finally gets here
Right now, I’ll tell ya, all I wanna see
Are people with scarves and gloves on their hands
And snow bringing life to all barren trees
I want the temps to chill me right to the bone
That’s when I’ll know it’s Christmas time
Who wants to look up and see a sleigh
With a fat man in a speedo, flying around

It’s just too warm now for Christmas
Too hot to shop, too hot to run around
Santa’s working at the pole in a speedo
That’s nothing, we wanna see come to town

I Saw Daddy Knocking Santa Claus

Whoa! Daddy's knocking Santa Claus!

I saw Daddy knocking Santa Claus
(knocking, knocking Santa Claus)
Just beside the christmas tree last night
He shouldn't came and crept
Daddy knew Mom and him had kissed
Mom's worry for what she did
She prayed Santa not to beep

Then, I saw Daddy carry Santa Claus
(carry, carry Santa Claus)
And get him to his sleigh reindeer ride
Oh, what a trouble that it had been
Thank Mommy she hadn't seen
Daddy knocking Santa Claus last night

(She saw Daddy knockin, knockin, knockin, Santa Claus)
I did, I really did see Daddy knocking Santa Claus.
I'm not gonna tell my Mommy

Then I saw Daddy kissing Mommy now
(kissing, kissing, kissing Mommy now)
Underneath the mistletoe, just right
Oh, a what a laugh that it has been
When they caught me as I stare
Daddy kissing Mommy hugs her tight

Oh, a what a laugh that it has been
When they caught me as I stare
Daddy kissing Mommy hugs her tight

Island music is what
I choose to play.
It makes the customers

Toes tapping some dancing
while they wait.
To be shucked

The village street comes alive

The music sets the beat
as people fill the street.
It's work but in a wonderful way

WEATHER FORECAST

Lately, the weather has dropped drastically,
and Fall holds up serenely and beautifully;
green trees so stately gently fluctuate
against a sky of transparent blue as hummingbirds make plans to migrate,
but the downy woodpeckers interrupt their chat
with their unbearable drumming that disturbs their peace with intent.

Summer in New York State has been humid and stormy,
temperatures rose above a hundred degrees as pavements smoked,
sprinklers in streets made children happy as they were being soaked...
so very thankful to live in a rich country offering such a commodity;
adversely, a water shortage caused drought in the South allowing tragedy
as gasoline and food prices soared and spouses couldn't pay alimony.

Hot summers predict cold winters, and we await a harsh winter...
stock up on shovels and salt, keep your driveway and sidewalk snow-and-ice-free;
will you get help from your kids when snow falls...having you think of electric bills?
No, let them play and have fun...their blood is hot and they feel no chills!
And should you think of joining them, drop your shovel as if stung by a bee!
Which other way is there to endure the wintry weather living as an Alaska bear?

What Just Happen to My Spring

I looked out side to find a nice day in the month of May
And was walking in the evening just to say
I almost cried and my hands got cold
And winter month got so bold
It was so frustrating and out of the norm
And each person in their heart had a storm
It's the month of May what the! happen to spring
And my headache began to ring
Most people on the first day of May was so happy
And now they look out on the second day sappy
I just want everyone to know it is May 2, 2013
And nothing should be in between
So pullout your snow shovels in dismay
And things you should know will be okay
So good morning to all and to all a good morning
And I just want you to be out their in a warning
The snow is at six inches and beyond
And you will not see green grass in dawn
I help myself by writing this poem
And I will be staying at home
Crazy the weather became bad in May and nasty
I brought out some of my snack and that was tasty
I just looked outside while I was eating
As the snow kept on beating

Souvenirs a plenty; a mug of the queen
Galleries and gardens, no sight left unseen
Last hugs and kisses, watering eyes
No time for tears, or long goodbyes
Days we’ll long remember, You and I
Funny how quickly, the time’s flown by

Hellow, Hallow-E'en

It’s almost midnight
On All Hallow’s Eve
And I’m here to seduce,
Entrance and deceive

Tonight I come calling,
a nightmarish creature –
You’ll cling to the stories
You’ve been told by your preachers

Who tell you that ghouls
Are all in the mind,
But watch out for my presence
Amongst man-unkind

Creeping and crawling,
I live for this night –
I’m a monster most hideous,
My first name is Fright

I’m the truth of your nightmares,
The terror is sheer
And scaring you senseless
Fills me with cheer

I’m the presence
Who inhabits your dreams
I’m alive in your deep,
Darkest screams

I exist to appall you,
Immerse you in fear
And my day of wakening
Is now, it’s right here

This one night in autumn
I visit from hell
Where I have been watching you,
I know you quite well

I’ve waited so patiently
For this Halloween
So I can show you my real face,
Gaunt, slimy, green

When you first lay your eyes
On the terrible me,
You’ll know I’m black evil,
But won’t believe what you see

Shapeless and hopeless,
I do not exist
In the time-space continuum
In which you persist

I’m other-dimensional,
Invisible, huge
My lips aren’t quite white,
My cheeks smeared with rouge

My hair’s writhing reptiles,
My nails twisted and curled
My breath stinks of Hades –
I’m so not of your world

I slither through shadows,
I suck the life from your dreams
I slurp up your terror
And munch on your screams

You can shutter your windows
Padlock each door
You still won’t be safe –
I’ll rise up through your floor

At midnight, I’ll seize you
And drag you away –
You’ll never see the light
Of All Hallow’s Day

Merry Christmas to All

Though we all do celebrate birthdays,
the best birthday,
falls on the twenty fifth of December,
as on this day,
our Lord,
Jesus Christ had been born,
the day is considered indeed great,
as the Son of God,
had come into this world,
and had left us by forgiving our sins,
the day begins,
by people of all castes visiting various Churches,
and offering their prayers to the Lord in here,
on this day,
the day is celebrated with a lot of passion,
and fervour,
wherein we also get to wine and dance,
and be merry all the while,
the kids are quite happy,
as on this day,
they receive lovely gifts,
for been good kids,
from a very special man,
known as Santa Claus
by acting as a postman,
but differs in style and in his way,
by delivering the gifts in advance,
as he does know that,
there is no use in relying with the snail mail,
and the kids would indeed be sad,
if they don’t get their presents in time,
whereby he does not take the usual route,
but always takes the wrong one,
by entering through the chimneys
or through the fireholes,
how he does it,
we have no idea,
inspite of been fat,
his favourite are the cookies indeed,
wherein he seeks an easier way to get into the houses of the kids,
here’s a message,
he leaves for you all,
wishing you all a Merry Christmas!!

The Open Window

I’m already ahead and stirring before that fiery Sunrise appears every single morning.
I'm quickly catching up to my own waiting for the breaking of this phenomenal day.
My coffee will be in my hand right when my thoughts once again start freshly forming!
Ah, I’m feeling alive inside and I think I’ll just stay right here for each second of today.

I glide through my house to stream Sunlight in by pulling every single window shade up,
I toast this day pouring my fresh hot brew straight into my scuffed up old-timers tin cup.
It’s the open window where I see my birds on my oak tree branches singing and playing,
I just stand at the open window licking early morning honeydew from my lips and I say,
Now this is the most outstanding way to start any God given day with this superb array!

There are just so many smelly buttercups blooming out for me to pluck them up to sup!
I’m smiling whistling and getting enthusiastic about allowing myself to get carried away,
Because I hear my happy little birdies singing their hearts out to me and they’re in tune!

Let us in! Let us in! They twitter their tweets with chirps,
Let us in and we will sing all day long just to be near you.
Laughing and giggling at my birdies I am just tickled pink,

No way Jose!
I can’t sing!
My silly, silly little birdies,
Y’all know my singing stinks.

My buzzing bumbling bee hummers away driving at the winds to boot,
I holler and holler for that goofy buzzer until I’m just not giving a hoot.
So I lift my tin cup up and in my air I toast to a genuine wholeness today,

By the open window I whisper to my eternally inspirational four winds of heaven,
Forever you may live insde my breaths majestically just as my infallible Sunrays!

October Considered

Step gently, my sweet,
Into the hallowed night,
And be not afraid
Of the mystery awaiting you.

See me as your escort,
Here to overshadow
Frightening things,
Great and small.

To the gates
We must journey.
Your presence delayed
Long enough.

Be aware
Of where your eyes land,
For this is no time
To be foolish.

Seek now
The gift of courage
As you enter this domain,
So fascinating.

Deities ponder
Your existence,
And would have you
For their own.

Go meekly into the night,
My friend,
But wield your sword
Of righteousness well.

I’ll stand beside you,
Watching all along,
Counting every piece of candy
You’d dare consume.

MORE SNOW COMING FROM WEST CAROLINA

Side streets, avenues and boulevards
seem fortifications of past civil wars
with piles of ice glistening, and the grime
and dirt from passing cars splash them with slime..

The meteorologist from Eyewitness News grins as he tracks down the January storm
predicting no pleasant, sunny weather or break in clouds tomorrow night;
more snow from West Carolina will arrive to New York Harbor after midnight,
then it will change to ice, rain and sleet....I'll drink plenty of coffee to keep me warm!

So worried, I called my pretty niece who's traveling up North,
I told her to drive safely and stop at a gas station to check her tires,
but Claudio will soothe her blues as he hums many happy rhymes,
and lots of stories he will tell me having seen the kids of the South.

Wednesday I will go back to work, having plenty of time to sleep...
to do as I will, but staring at a blackened snow at every curb,
I can't bear the thought that spring is months away and my Ford
is parked between cars that haven't been moved since last week.

I'm waiting without thrill more snow from West Carolina,
praying for everyone's safety as they cross another borderline...
If I were a kid, I'd build the funniest snowman on my block,
and happily go around it twenty times as a quacking duck!

What The Gardener May Only Suppose

On a summer's morn, waiting there,
Beneath the tint of yellow glare;
Lies the gardener's unending task,
Remove from soil each spear of grass.
To weed, in jest lay rest to weed,
Prepare for ground the birth of seed.
Turn the dirt and furrow the rows,
Then lean and loafe on hoe and stare
And marvel at the earth laid bare;
While all the while the weed it knows,
What the gardener may only suppose.

THE DREARINESS OF THIS FRIGID SEASON

Goodbye Fall with all the auburn leaves of the reddest sunset,
goodbye crackling path where I met the last songbirds,
whose melody accompained me to winter's doors;
and with deep sadness I kept on looking back.

Welcome gloomy winter with short afternoons and long evenings;
watching the advancing shadows and loudly hearing
the furious sound of the squall rampaging the stately trees,
and making them weep when the icy rain comes down with lightining.

Sitting in a rattling, rocking chair, I peruse through pages of sunny places afar,
forgetting the dreariness of this frigid season and be consoled by a warm fire;
and still nostalgia abounds...thinking of the pleasant strolls of a past season,
which thrilled me with its colors, and through delight I justified my reason.

O winter, don't linger as you always have...shorten your stay, avoid foul play;
and could I ever stand a pale sun, hardly giving off with its luminiscence,
in this house hidden among the maples and the pines of a squalid valley?
Old winter, don't mislead me with days without snow...that's utter pretense!

Goodbye explorer fedora hat keeping my dreamer's head cool,
sparing my skin another ugly wrinkle, allowing late beauty to rule;
goodbye iced coffee sipped from my Big Apple plastic cup,
which I bought along Fifth Avenue in a crowded, variety shop.

Ummerciful winter, pity the desperate state I am in,
reduce the wrath of your devastation, step inside and to tell me your amazing tales...
hoping that I will write them down for everyone to read and enjoy for immortal ages;
relentless winter, reduce the dreariness of this frigid season.

FOR TWELVE NIGHTS

For twelve nights I waited,
imagining what was inside
those long, red stockings...
nothing big, like games or toys,
hoping Santa wouldn't be late.

For twelve nights I stood
on my small and trembling feet,
to see what was inside
them and then return to bed
without waking up my dog.

For twelve nights I rushed
into the living room wishing
it were Christmas Eve...
when Santa quietly walked in,
filling the stockings with candies.

Musical Fruit

It is the seasonal time for gas.
It’s usually gentle on pass.
Favorite when weather gets cold.
Age old recipes prepared so bold.
Tis natural things, we all do.
Some may try, though there is a clue.
Cannot mistake the odor it shares.
Indeed it is made with natures cares.
Warms the body, soul so very well,
Though it has a historic story to tell,
Tis the season for many more things,
Truly it has a musical tone that rings.

Santa's big Surprise Visit

T'was the night before Christmas, and up on
the roof,Was heard a loud noise,made by
many a hoof!Fat old Santa grabbed his bag
of goodies from that magical sleigh,Down
the chimney he fell, after dizzily losing
his unbalanced way!Out thru the fire place
he wobbled and strutted,Ashened in black
soot, with expletives that he had muttered
He looked to his left and he looked to his
right,T'was two big ole' Rottweillers
looking to fight! With a chomp to his rump
and a tear to his britches,This would have
to be tended by Mrs.Santa Clause,T'would
have to sew up with many a stitches! The
sleigh took off towards the Pole,While in
his fanny was a great gaping bloodied torn
hole!

A Hunters dream

It seems like fall is on it's way.
A hunter's dream to catch their prey.
The leaves have colored then they die.
The bucks in rut it's doe's they spy.
Bucks hunt does down to do nature's thing.
So the doe's have fawns when it comes spring.
They give them time so they grow up.
Then hunt them down when their in rut.
This cycle goes from falls to springs.
They never know what each year brings.
Some will be proud they got their buck.
While others try and have no luck.
So hunters wait from year to year.
In hopes that they will bag a deer.

Competition

Young women with bodys hard
Working out with tubs of lard
Wanting men to notice their chest
With buns of steel pointing west
North and south given to me
Yet they notice the gold on me
Yes I know my north doesnt abound
And my south hangs low to the ground
Yes their east and west is very stout
No matter what I do it wont help out
Gold that shows without a doubt
Years gone by without a shout
Yet I cant but want what I see
Even though they wont see me
With all this gold
MY fire only goes cold
North and south gone astray
Given to stallions who can play
With nothing left for me
But to watch and dream with my t.v.

Soap Sally

Don’t go near the smoke house,
For Soap Sally lives in there,
She will sneak up from behind you,
And grab you without a care.

Then tie you up,
String you from the rafters,
Then slowly stir her lye,
Waiting for just the right time,
She loves to hear you cry.

Hotter and hotter her soap does get,
Boiling to just the right point,
To make the best soap yet,
Head first she will anoint.

Then stir you up and boil your innards,
Don’t think this is a joke,
Search around to find your gizzards,
Your spirit she wants to evoke.

Bring back your spirit,
Cause now you are gone,
She just, will not quit,
Your life has been foregone.

So when you are walking near the smoke house,
Be leery of what goes on,
Tip toe around,
Be quiet as a mouse,
Maybe, you’ll make it back home.

A Night Guard's Life

Autumn leaves that crinkle underfoot The misty sky at night. The gale force winds, The thunderstorms. Such is a nightguard's life. Winter snow three feet deep, Working on Xmas night. The icy paths The double thick coats. Such is a nightguard's life. Spring birds singing a mating call, Owls that hoot at night. Flowers blooming, Gardens of colour. Such is a nightguard's life. E is for Ecto

Maud dreamed by the fire, her blue eyes half-closed,
While a grey cat on a grey mat beside her reposed.
Then she wakened and watched as the fast-falling snow
Was whipped into drifts when the sad wind would blow.
The moments that make up a life span are fleet,
Passing by with the stealth of a kitten's soft feet.
Since then, many winters this old earth has turned,
And I can't even guess when the last embers burned.
But where the hearth warmed, a computer now stands,
And someone's been typing with very cold hands
And piling spreadsheets on a table all day
On the very same spot where a grey cat once lay.
You're alone, so stop turning -- you won't find a trace
Of the blue eyes and smile of a little girl's face;
But when winds start moaning and driving the snow,
Maud may send you a ghost-mail from long, long ago.

The Haunted House

I entered a haunted house
              you see.

It was all full of dust and
       spider webbies.

A slam of a door had me
       running for cover.

   I heard a scream
   that gave me an
    eerie feeling.

There was a rattle of chains
                   and
      a cladder of thunder.

Then a ghost appeared
   and started floating
    down the stairway.

My teeth went to chattering
and my knees was a knocking.

   So I closed my eyes
 and said a little prayer.

Then I opened my eyes
then there I was sitting
in the middle of my bed
all covered with covers.

The Christmas Letter, dedicated to my mother

I thought I would have, all my cards in the mail
You can tell that my pace, is that of a snail
I’m such a “go getter” and I hate sitting still
One things’ for certain, I haven’t lost my will.

All the testing, the blood work, x-rays and more
Thank goodness the lab, has a revolving door.
I’m covered in bruises, from head to my toes,
I say it’s ‘cuz, I punched a guy in the nose.

This pill, and that pill, it is hard to keep track
Is this for my stomach, my eyes or my back?
All of my treatments, are a thing of the past
I don’t have to see doctors, I’m free at last.

Believe it or not, hubby’s quite a good cook
And he doesn’t follow, a recipe book.
I’ve had to scold him every once in a while
“Please don’t leave that clean laundry, sit in that pile”.

He vacuums, does laundry and even does chores
Fixes washers, dryers and paints all the doors
He’ll relax in his chair, and he snores quite fast
When he gets loud, I’ll turn the TV full blast.

I have to admit, that it’s funny to see
Looking out that window, as he trims the tree.
I still try to figure, why men can’t “just trim”
NO, they hack, saw, and pull and leave just a limb.

The Grandchildren are growing, fast every day
Time passes quickly, which is scary to say.
Thank goodness for family, and friends such as you
May all of your dreams, and wishes come true.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR

Money

With muse in hand
How do I make one understand

I love colors of shaded green
Does not make me nasty or mean

For it's in our lakes
And even in things that we bake

It 's canvass for our trees
Even sometimes stains on our knees

There's hues of bladed grass
Where we have all plop our ass

Even passing clouds
Looking purified and aloud

So here I'll stand and raise a toast
To the color green on money who everyone loves the most

Winter's passed, the snow is gone,
The weather's mild and sunny.
I dream sweet dreams of lazy days,
And eating clover honey.

Then suddenly the wind comes up,
First rain and then wet snow.
This morning it was plus fifteen,
And now it's ten below.

But if I had my way,
I'd change it to Harold
And gobble all day.

Like my friend Harry Mole
But he thinks that Tommy
Is the grandest of all.

But tradition has it
From long, long ago
It takes Tommy Turkey
To make Thanksgiving Day glow.

I'd sure hate to disappoint

So I'll just stay Tommy
And be King for a day.

Dozier In October

In the town of Dozier,
An old woman does reside,
She doesn't like exposure,
So she stays locked up inside.

She watches from her attic window,
As you briskly walk by,
Her black cat upon her lap,
He gives you an evil eye.

Her house is very run down,
There are weeds everywhere,
Vines growing up the walls,
You should never stop and stare.

It is the time of Hallo,
A time to reap the crops,
A time when some go missing,
A time of many teardrops.

It is said she has no heart,
She lives on blood alone,
She never is seen outside,
Some say she is never gone.

But when the moon has crested,
Above the mountain sky,
We think that she has vested,
In the soul of a witch nearby.

For on these nights,
There come eerie sounds,
When the moon is just right,
No one clowns around.

Little kids they do go missing,
They just disappear,
Dogs never heard barking,
Just why, it is never clear.

So when you visit our little town,
We will be glad to see you here,
Keep a close eye on your kids,
You have nothing else to fear,

Maybe.

My Holiday

The Holiday is almost here because:
I hear the sound of bells ringing for needy kids.
Listen at the tussle and bussle in crowded malls.
People cussing and fussing about their so called in-laws.
While the kids is a pouting about their letters to Santa Claus.
The family is decorating our tree with old fruit looms oops... I meant heirlooms.
So lets break out the eggnog to toast the decking of halls in our home.
With granny in the kitchen baking a yule-tide-log.
Look out here comes the so called in-laws.
Carrying the same old fruit cake we gave them last year.
Put on a smile and open the door to wish them Happy Holidays with gritting teeth.
As I thank the in-laws for the fruit cake that I take straight to toss out the back door.
Lets sit down to the table to eat our Holiday feast that I slaved on all week.
Over to the tree we go to exchange gifts that we really don't want because its
something we'll never use.
To your family from ours we wish you Happy Holidays even though were looney
as hell.

A Toast To Mom

oh the weather outside is frightful
and having snowball fights were so delightful

getting hit in the butt and head
then laughing cause you start seeing red

hooking on car bumpers for a little ride
wearing tennis shoes we did slip and slide

mama yelling to get off or you'll be dead
we never listened to what she had said

socks for gloves to keep little hands warm
even amidst a blizzards storm

soaked from head to foot
looking like santa's outfit full of soot

but what I remember about fun the most
was waiting for mama's hot coco and apple butter toast

on that speical Christmas morning day
before the Lord had came and taken her away

Ho Ho Ho

Go to sleep
Go to sleep
My little ones

Or Santa
Just won't come

For he knows when you are awake
For He knows when you are asleep

Close your weary eyes now
And I'll go take a little peek

Tap Tap Tap
Upon the roof

It's santa coming
For I hear reindeer's hoofs

Hush Hush now
Don't say a word

Better hurry
And fall fast to sleep
Or he just may leave you a big turd

Let sugar plums
Dance in those pertty little heads

As I made sure
Santa was nice and fead

Cookies and milk
With nothing else

Oh thank you my dear Lord
For this nice little cord

For they are fast to sleep
Now I can go back to bed
And count my own lost sheep

Summer Vacation

I've waited all year
to hear that bell ring.
When I finally hear it,
You know I will sing...
HOORAY FOR VACATION
and GET READY FOR FUN!!
I want to do nothing
(but maybe lay in the sun.)
I want to hear crickets
and bees buzzing low.
I'll weed out my garden
and watch my plants grow.
If ever I've needed a summer to rest,
this would be the summer I needed it best.

HAZEL-EYED MA GREW THE LOVELIEST BEGONIAS

Hazel-eyed Ma grew the loveliest begonias
on her neat and colorful balcony; and if rains
were scarce, she would water them...
until the fragrant buds would bloom!

Exactly at eight o' clock, for three seasons,
she tendered for them with her caring hands;
and no weeds would mar their beauty so exquisite...
all the nuns came rushing from the Convent!

Sing, adorable mother, sing another aria...the happiest one,
as you caress your flowers with the gentlest touch;
crowds will gather underneath your festive balcony, to listen
with interest and acclaim you for your superb vocals!

Hazel-eyed Ma grew the loveliest begonias not seen
in the most spacious and elegant gardens;
she suddenly was known as the flower woman,
but also became the envy of many housewives.

the leaves of fall

red, gold, yellow, green
and a warm brown
the colors of the fall leaves
laying upon the ground
one Saturday morning,
I worked very hard
raking up all those leaves
in my backyard
and once I finally got a big pile
looking nice and neat
a devilish grin came over my face
before I decided to leap
and with the jubilation
of an innocent little child
I ran full speed and jumped onto
that big leafy pile
laughing and thrashing about
I had me a ball
rolling around in my backyard
in the colorful leaves of fall

Cold And White

Winter's the season cold and white
Those who hate it favor flight
Warmer, sunnier places in mind
But sometime monies are hard to find.

Others who love the frost and snow
Have many activities on the go
A day of sports, and evening of pleasure
Uniting to form a memory treasure.

So here's to winter and all its faults
Fresh fallen snow, skiers exult
Cold and stormy a typical day
Moonlit' rides with the horse and sleigh.

And to all of us who have what it takes,
Say "farewell" to those who need breaks
A winter of warm, a winter of cold
All balances out or so we are told.

Real Women Sweat

My goodness but its hot
I'm wringing wet.
"Women perspire," he said,
"only men sweat."

Well, guess again buddy
maybe la-de-dah ladies perspire,
but Real Women sweat
and right now I'm on fire.

In high school my mother
would take me to the beauty parlor
to get me a fancy dance doo
and then later I'd hollar

Because after a dance or two,
my hair would be dripping wet.
I was so embarrassed
all covered with sweat.

Air conditioning is just too cold
and it smells funny,
so I sit in front of a fan
when it gets too sunny.

But running out for chores
in 90-degree heat
is no fun at all
I just come home beat.

So you'all have a good summer ...
and I still say it yet ...
that ladies may perspire,
but Real Women sweat.

Rudolph, The Brain Dead Raindeer

Rudolph, the Brain Dead Raindeer'
Had a very shiny arse,
Red from profuse bleeding hemorrhoids,
Santa figured he'd better put him last,
All of the other raindeers,
Used to laugh about his red tush,
Near Santa's North Pole workshop,
Could be found many a reddish bush,
So on this first Christmas eve,
With Rudolph at the rear,
Santa took off to the sky,
Red droplets flying backwards fast,
Often clogged poor Santa's eye,
Before he got to his first house,
His white suit had turned quite red,
Something told him it was more appropriate,
Went better with his sled,
From that point on, Santa's suit was red,
And remains so to today.....But now I've told
This secret old, and dearly did I pay,
Cause Santa does not stop at my roof,
Or bring us gifts of joy,
Cause I've got a BIG MOUTH!
And Santa I did annoy!

Holiday Shopping

Shop Shop Shop I have had enough.
Going from store to store is mighty tuff.
Getting through town is really ruff.
People is a pushing, shoving, and being gruff.
Some people have happy faces thats all fluffed up.
Others have sour faces thats all puffed up.
Look I see a shop lifter all cuffed up.
One child wants a stuffed animal.
The other one wants a set of ear muffs.
Making decisions is extremely tough.
All the stores is being guff.
hmm....the fake Santa Claus slough his beard to the side.
Take my advice an shop early enough.
Don't wait till the last minute.
Because you might huff up.
As I sit here getting my nails all buffed.
Let me wish you a Merry Christmas.
Before I Scream.

Windy Jade Green Sea Frenzy

Whooosh! Brrrrr...icy!..North wind in a steady gale blowing hard.

Whipping up the green sea into a jade and white peaked frenzy.

The water turning to an ultramarine blue on the misty horizon

Dappled clouds echo a scaly sea pattern in the lavender sky .

The cool Winter sun shyly peeking through the cloudy canvas.

Walking with the wind a woman with a whippet braces bravely.

Facing the salt spray and a wild sea the wind carries her along.

Burnt sienna sponge corals daley with red rubber spike corals

Empty crab shells crunched under moon crescent horse shoes

The pains of trick or treating

In the dark outside,
all the kids try to hide.
Door to door.
Looking for more.

Running and screaming.
Not knowing the true meaning.
Of this night.
What it could be like.

I look around
to find my own,
and I notic to my horror,
that one of them is gone!

I have six daughters,
and the count is five!
Which one is gone?
Is she alive?

Gather them around
They're all scared now.
Their eyes are big and round.
One's gone, they don't know how.

Now I'm yelling,
"Where's your sister? Where?"
Without a word they are crying,
and looking for her.

And where could she be?
Then they all just look at me.
"Mom, you're tired. Lets go home.
For our sisters not alone.
No need for scolding.
The sister you lost, you're holding."

Summer All Year Long

What if summer lasted all year?
I would never have to go to school.
What if reading constantly made you popular?
I would be super cool.
What if sour gummy worms were good for you?
I would be their number one fan.
What if poems were wishes that actually came true?

A DAY AT THE BEACH

It's summer, It's hot
and I'm praying It won't rain
on my way to the beach
riding the F train
I get to Coney Island
and from the boardwalk I see the sand
looking out towards the ocean
on the beach I now stand

a day at the beach
I can hardly wait
to sit under the rays of the sun
and play in the waves
I lay down my blanket
and set-up my umbrella stand
I place my cooler of goodies
firmly in that sand
I slather on the sun blocker
for I need protection
I stand at the water's edge
at look down at my reflection

a day at the beach
frolicking in the ocean's waves
a memory form childhood
that I will treasure and save

Come toll the bell.

Add the old.
Pray for peace.

feel the heat:IT'S A SIZZLER!!

Barbecue fellow meat
Sweltering in summertime heat
too much for the eyes
Unbearable to the feet

No need for the grill today
Fry the weenie without the roll anyway
Open up the mouth and say:
ANYBODY CARE FOR A CAN OF "OCEAN SPRAY"?

I like the SIZZLING pleasure
FRENCH FRIED in the pot with equal measure
The sun is boiling, still un abating
HAMBURGER with relish
My appetite is awaiting

Rover is a bone
Tabby shedding hair
Charlie catching rabies
But the sunlight doesn't care

Heat of the day
Babe in her thong
I'm in the mood for
IN THE SUMMERTIME song

Late in the 'noon
The light has descended
I drive home from the beach
but,
SOME CAR I REAR ENDED

This poem is yours
it really isn't mine
to be thrown in the trash
If you would be so kind

Tonight I'm in diaper
TOO HOT to wear short
I am ready to retire
looking forward to negative retort

Allergies

I hate Spring
I hate Summer
My noes runs
Like a marathon runner

My eyes water
And they're red
My head aches
I need Sudafed

I feel deprived
Of outdoor fun
For I get an attack
When I see the sun

I had a shot
I still have allergies
All I want
Is not to sneeze

All my outdoor
Days are gone
Sometimes I even wish
I could mow the lawn

The worst for me
Is unloading hay
For my allergies last
Throughout the day

During school
I can't concentrate
My eyes hurt so bad
I can't see straight

So with this poem
I beg Mother Nature please
Can You control
My Allergies?!

waking up to morning dew

clouds of mattered grey
just won't let the sun come out to play

just raindrops tapping on my window
as the fury wind whips and blows

cotton balls fluttering thru the air
hearing aw choo's everywhere

not sure if the sun will ever shine
or if the temputures will get out of their binds

for I know july is right around the corner
and I want to be able to celebrate with other horner's

Light the torch
Up the conditioner to 9
lotion on the double
We're baking HOT these times

Fan is high
body sleeping
Still to sweat
It is hard to cool off by

All the commotion
As we swim the waves to beat the heat
Uncle Fred and Aunt Sally
Taking us in their beamer to the beach

1000 people
baring few
feet in the water
and then TIME TO GO HOME

Old x'ers such as myself
keep inside to stay Oh! calm
Heavy Metal Heads
Rock and roll mosh pit
getting tan and hotter
That's where their energy is at

Mr.Kool Aid
knocking at my door
asking this:
HOW 'BOUT SOME HAWAIAN PUNCH?!

9:00 at night
85 degrees on the face
there is not a breeze within my door
HEATWAVE tomorrow
and then some more!!

A Life Tray

A day is coming and passes away.
Memories are adding in a Life tray.
Few good or wrong and bad occasions,
Cycling in a cycle but all in seasons.

Fate is treating in a same defeating,
Unfortunate person is always waiting.
Working hard but admitting a mistake,
Wasting his time and fishing on a Lake.

One day will come I’ll be a fortunate,
I will tease my mate to reach at late.
Money will play a game to roll overcome,
When she‘ll love me I‘ll open a bear drum.

We’ll dance together to sing a song,
A day‘ll come brighter after a dark long.
Money has a life but life is nothing,
Opportunity is risk, achieving something.

Through my dirty window pane
I think how my life is so boring
The dog is barking and my husband is snoring
My son bounces around like a jumping bean
He's the most hyper kid I've ever seen
If I had wings, I'd fly away
Even if for only a day
I'd soar through the air so free and light
Then go to a casino and play the slots all night
But it does no good to wish or complain
Guess I'll just go wash that damn window pane

The rain came down,
I thought I would drown,
Just going out to the mailbox.

I came back in,
Threw my shoes in the bin,
And relaxed the rest of the day.

We needed the rain,
To water the grain,
And all the flowers and grasses.

I'm glad it came down,
And I didn't drown,
Just going out to the mailbox.

With this I will stop,
Before you all pop,
From laughing your insides outside.

            SO LONG!

Thank-You Garden

The garden is producing food
as we go about our day.
Without so much as a thank-you
this garden goes away.

While in full swing, we pick it's fruit
and never look back.
We haul it in as if it's loot
that fills our empty sack.

One day I'd like to thank-you
for the goodness you provide.
I hope I'll have the time to
but time passes like the tide.

No matter what you're thinking
I appreciate your care
Maybe you're just a garden,
but I'm sure glad you're there!!

Musical Snowball fight

I sit and blunder -
Torn asunder -
Waiting for the blow.

Barely singing -
What I’m winging -
Lying in the snow.

Baffled by a ball of ice,
Gliding in a way precise,
I felt impending sacrifice,
Without a way to go.

A fall so graceful -
Almost tasteful -
With thoughtfulness to show.

Beaned in the head -
A frozen bed -
Hiding in the low.

Greeted by a snowy face,
Surprise is followed by disgrace,
Surrounded in my hiding place,
Nowhere to cast my throws.

Sounds delightful -
Ears so spiteful -
From my mouth did flow.

A path they found -
A song of sound -
How was I to know?

All Hallow's Eve

A new cycle.
Time to prepare.
Gather the crops.
Children Beware.
Ghosts and Goblins
And Faeries alike,
Will give you a scare
On Halloween night.
The blood moon is rising
Colossal and blazing.
Giving light to the covens
Gathered for praising.
So all who are frightened,
Afraid, suspicious,
Unenlightened,
Stay inside your home.
On All Hallow's Eve
The witches will roam.

While relaxing on a Caribbean beach.
Such a refreshing way to watch the sun

Stimulating one’s stomach for a feast

The main flavor of the day.

Oh, I like tasty mangoes

Achoo!!!

The grass has turned brown.
The leaves have all fallen down.
The air has taken on a different feel.
My allergies are back, oh where is that pill?
My eyes start to itch.
My nose runs with a twitch.
This would be my favorite time of the year.
If it weren’t for all the pollens around here.
As I stifle a sneeze.
That was caused by this breeze.
My inhalant is near.
Eyes are a blur I wished they were clear.
I feel like a sap.
Maybe I need me a nap.
My head wants to pop.
    Food tastes just like slop.
Did I mention this was my favorite time of the year?
I can’t go outside I’m confined to right here.
The coolness at night.
     Oh such a delight.
The tissues are near.
To keep my head clean and clear.
To the pharmacy my wife I have sent.
To find me some relief is her intent.
Just six more months and it will all be okay.
Then I can get out and play.
But until I see that day.
      Inside I will stay.

Driving Home a Point

today his pickup has made its point,
seems no place and time, no weather
can be more apt for that purpose
than this wet, sloping dirt-road bend

right smack in the muddy middle
          of a desolate cornfield somewhere
in the heart of a lightning-lit night,
              right in the eye of a nasty storm;

a few minutes ago, it roared,
  but then it wouldn't move an inch;
its engine faltered, missed two beats,
      whimpered and then finally died;

        drenched in rain and desperation,
he works the clutch and battery
as he tries to coax back to life
              the ignition, but  all to no avail;

he gets out fuming mad, cursing,
slams the steel door, slushes away
in the soft mud, shivers in the rain,
glancing back, he sees his pickup

        sitting on its shadow, chuckling,
seems to him with malice, gloating,
            triumphant in its metallic conviction
that it has driven home a hard point !

Hitting the Fan

No time!
Think not!
Here I am,
Burning,
In meaningless thoughts,
Given by another.
Drop of a pants,
Speaking loudly,
Finding out,
Second face,
Speaking in madness.
Flying everywhere,
Hitting the fan,
I turned around,
Heavy wind,
Thrust it back at me.
Covered from head to feet,
On my lips,
Getting a taste.
O' number two!
Knowing that's the toilet's place.
Thousand moments over,
You think by now I would have learned?

Who is this large man

Who is this large man
with golden glasses
I hope gas
he does not passes?

Who is this large man
with friends in green
Mom is smiling
so he mustn't me mean?

Who is this large man
they are all waiting to see
standing in a line
wanting to be me?

Who is this large man
with curved canes of mint?
Oh! It must be
Jolly Old St. Nick.

Serendipity

Planners plan and dreamers dream,
plotters plot and schemers scheme,
but I can tell you with utmost certainty:
not everything can be explained that easily.

Let me tell you a tale to drive home my point.

There was this bookworm who often came to the library
where one day he caught sight of a chick in the hallway;
she returned his gaze and something must have sparked,
it happened quite so easily just like a walk in the park.

“Hi,” he said and demurely she answered “Hello”.
“You’re a new face here, aren’t you?” he inquired.
“Yes, but aren’t you, too?” the girl coyly replied...
and they burst out giggling, breaking the ice.

He gave her his name and she told him hers,
both discovering they loved old Agatha Christie;
the very reason why they were in that same library -
to learn about spies, intrigues and life's mysteries.

“How about a quick bite in the cafeteria?” he then asked.
“That’s not bad at all,” she winked, “as long as you pay.”
between sips of soda they spilled out tidbits in their lives
like long-lost friends making up for days long past.

He asked her for her number which she gave right away,
then begged if he could drop by her place any time soon,
to which she answered “I’ll shoot you if you don’t come”;
just like that, no sweat, it was a breeze and they were on.

Before you know it the young boy and the shy girl got hitched
and after twenty five happy years they had four crazy kids;
don’t you laugh at this tale, I know what I’m talking about -
that good-looking guy is me and that pretty girl is my wife!

You’ve been patient and I don’t want to bore you with a long story,
I know PoetrySoup has a limit to how much I am allowed to say;
folks, just remember the moral of this story: not everything in life
can be attributed to planning, dreaming, plotting and scheming -
don’t ever dismiss this wonderful thing called Serendipity.

Quality Time

Ouch!
That hurts!
Writer's cramp in the brain.
I feel like I haven't a poet's leg to stand on!
Hours ticking away,
Joining forces with the days.
O?
Clock speaks?
"Just thirty minutes has been spent! Thou shalt not give false testimory."
Now I am getting the third degree preaching.
Okay-
Enough of this.
What's up?
Heavily in the realm of seriousness?
Maturely growing,
I need a rest?
Okay you,
I here you in silence in your little playground,
I know you all to well,
The child in me.
Take the pen,
It's your time to come out and play.

(Thank you Carol Brown on your comments on "It's Time." Your words are so true
from the heart. I am now laughing because too many wonderful comments from
all, it seems like there is a writing for everyone of them! I do not know if I should
keep going or take a break?)

Night After Christmas

'Twas the night AFTER Christmas
When all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Except me, like a mouse

I crept into the kitchen
From my snuggle warm bed
While visions of carrot cake
Danced in my head

A nice big slice I put on my plate
With a cup of hot chocolate, I could hardly wait
But with the first bite, a small voice said
"Put that away, and go back to bed"

At first I was frightened
But soon it was clear
'Twas only my conscience
Whispering in my ear

But I put it away
And ran down the hall
Saying,"Thanks" to my conscience
And "Goodnight" to all
