Author's Notes: This Accentual Meter write on "Occam's razor" was originally written and completed by me on September 14, 2015. "Occam's razor" was first known and spelled as "Ockham's razor" after of William of Ockham (1287-1347) with whom much of this original concept is associated with. Occam's razor is defined and explained as: An identified solution with the fewest assumptions is the one of the most likely to be true. Occam's razor is often equated with the most economical solution. Its essence is that of a "rule of style" rather than one of "logic." In effect, the simplest of solutions may not always be the truest. In many situations dealing with heuristic phenomena, the more complex values, variables or assumptions (hypotheses) should not be discounted, but carefully examined as well. This realism is in consonance more with the vast range of human reality and variety that can't always be tucked away in a package of simplicity with a bow-tie neatly affixed to it. The messy and complex factors associated with certain problems or problem sets often pervade applications and can both affect and effect heuristic explanations predicated on the "simplest of solutions," which may, at times, defy both common sense and logic. I hope you enjoy this poem and its walk-through on tilting (or jousting) at simplicity with its metaphorical overtones and similarity to Don Quixote's adventure of tilting or jousting at windmills (in a similar simplistic vein) as conceived and created by Cervantes' fertile imagination. Tilting at Simplicity William of Ockham Harbinger of today’s “Occam’s razor”— His simplest solutions Bespeak not always Accurate conclusions. A Simple Simon Binary approach Style vice logic Solutions not always Truest to measure Requires real Human variety. Heuristic methods Abound—of course Tied to many Scientific efforts But how about The Messy? The Complex? Simple rationale On each conclusion May be suspect With only barest of Variables considered. Take your pick—but Use your intuition The easiest aren’t Always most correct Use common sense too! When in doubt Trust yourself Keep objectivity Fail not to ponder The complex too! Thanks Robert!! Coming from you that's a true compliment. I appreciate your read here and the "7"!!Poems like this one always require some high degree research and intellectual reflection. I try many times to get readers to think about things, themes, or certain situations. But the reality is that poems like "Tilting at Simplicity" are usually not so popular within the PS community. Thanks again!! Cheers and Best, Gary

Mein freund Gary, willcomen! Your poem took me back to my student's days in philosophy. The ancient Greeks said that to be laconic is to philosophize. When one knows what he wish to say no lenghty writing is necessary. You know that I have been following the advice of your fine poem from the beginning! Excellent writing!
