This poem was written based on an observation at mum's care home - it is not intended to offend anyone

On the starting grid for the zimmer frame races Ready to put themselves through their paces No cheating girls - don’t go tying shoelaces Or there will be embarrassed red faces Lined up on the starting grid Prize is a cuppa and a quid ON YOUR MARKS.. GET SET GO SLOWWWWWWWWWW But off like rockets charge Ethel and Flo Wheel to wheel at the very first corner Ethel cuts in - she should have warned her Flo gives her a knowing look No cheating Ethel – you’ll get a right hook They cross the line together - I’m glad I didn’t bet Sandwiches, cake and tea is all ready and set Best of friends they sit and enjoy a chatter Who’s first past the winning post – it really doesn’t matter! 16TH April 2015

Jan: Nicely done. Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction. Walker races is one of those times. I spent about 1 day a week for nearly 7 years at a local center. Lovely place to visit but there often isn't much excitement. These girls are very much like those in every center I expect. Always in a rush, with no place to go. Thank you for bringing some laughter to a sometimes sad topic. Aging. I know of which I speak. :o) OLDbuck

You had me smiling because at the home my girl friend is in. The ladies will all race for the elevator after dinner like they have somewhere to go. So I can relate to this wonderful poem you penned but also you make me laugh --where do these gals really have to run off too. love phyl

Jan, this is absolutely delightful, it had me laughing and I needed a laugh today, because I work in a nursing home, you captured what happens in games and races very well, and in the end does it matter who wins, wonderful 7 and thanks for visiting my poem, Patience

Thanks Ilene - I have observed these two ladies on numerous occasions whilst there is a little 'poetic licence' in my poem the way they vie to get to the dining room first is very real:-) Hugs Jan xx

Mum is one of the few residents who doesn't use a walking aid - My hubby and I were watching these two ladies jockeying for position to get to the dining room and this poem was created as a result:-) Hugs jan xx

Not quite lol - I was just observing 2 of the residents going to afternoon tea and vying to get to the dining room first! Last year some group did have invalid carriages doing a lap of the TT course for charity - now that was a spectacle to see! Hugs Jan xx
