I stroll along the bank of a meandering river Weeping willow leaves dance as they escape from tree branches See them pirouette as the water gathers momentum They rush past like expert kayakers white water rafting Until they come to rest on jagged algae covered rocks Contest River Line Sponsored by Rick Parise Checked with how many syllables 14 per line 11~17~16

You certainly tickled my love of nature with this poem. I could almost smell and hear the waiter as you described its travels. Also, willows are my favorite trees. I am new to the site, only 2 poems submitted but I have quite a collection I will be submitting as time goes by.

Thanks so much Vera. I am on cloud 9 at the moment I performed 2 poems on stage in front of an audience of 600 and we raised over £6000 on the night for Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimers:-) It was the most incredible experience of my life:-) hugs jan xx

I can plainly see why you called the leaves kayaks. The imagery is so real and lovely, Jan. A sure winner.

I actually walked along this river while reading your poem. I could see the slimy willow leaves attaching themselves to the jagged rock. I wanted to bend down and pick up a willow leaf but the rot caused a horrid smell. Your poem is authentic enough to involve the imagination in reality!

Jan, you did really well with this one. I think you have a chance with him writing with this kind of description. I Hope I can come up with something unique. I am doing miserably with some of this week's judges.
