The Queen of Poetry

She sat before me, this dear girl of mine A student bearing now a precious treat I looked at golden wrapping's precious shine And wondered if it were some chocolate sweet The precious gift did not unopened lie For anxious was my heart to see inside All wrapping gone, I could not help but cry The joy I found will long in me abide A lovely plaque with these words there inscribed The Queen of Poetry; oh, thought divine! Her gift affirmed MY gift and so described The nature of her heart, true and sublime I rose to thank her with a warm embrace A smile of sweet contentment graced her face! Eileen Manassian Post Script: Today my student, Rawan (which means “flowing river”) passed by my office to give me a precious gift. I first thought it was a Toblerone bar because it was triangular in shape. When I opened it, I saw this plaque bearing these letters in black: The Queen of Poetry. I can’t tell you the feelings that burst from my heart. I literally cried, and she came around my desk to plant a kiss in my hair. It is one of the most beautiful gifts I’ve ever received. Poetry is my life. I share some of my poems in the English Composition I class that I teach, and she knew that I’d been named the Queen of the Romantic Pen. Her gift is sitting in my office for ALL to see, and every time I look at it, I’ll remember that I have a dream that still needs to be fulfilled!

No greater gift for a teacher than the recognition of her/his worth by their students! What a glorious feeling this must have been for you dear, Eileen, when the students you teach acclaim you as the Queen of Poetry and as the Queen of Literature teacher I may add! You deserve every praise! Your verse here is a majestic example of your poetry. You know that the influence of a teacher upon his/her students never ends. A seven from me, my dear Queen of Poetry! I know, for once I was a teacher!

I wish I could post a photo of it, but I don't know yet how to work that link above the poem. I feel really stupid! :( I've read so many posts on it and STILL...I copy the URL and it won't do it! ;( Will post it on FB tomorrow. Thank you for your kind words, Charmaine....your writes are romantic with a more subtle passionate touch...which gives them charm. Hugs

Rick, you gave me that title! I will always treasure the poem you write for me: The Queen of the Romantic Pen. I told my students about it. :) They know how much I love poetry. I'm glad THEY see me that way. I know my place...and I'm not royalty, but you and Flo sure make me feel that way. I'll never forget her present. That tiara that she sent me all the way from the States to Beirut. What a sweetheart. Thanks for the visit. Hugs

You are a sweetie pie. I do love my students. :) They can feel it. I try my best to bring to class life experience and spiritual themes as well. Life is short....they need to FEEL and LIVE....before the years pass by. Ah...I'm very candid with them about my own struggles. I think that is what binds us together. Thank you for this lovely post. I bet she will check out this poem herself! :)
