Author's Notes: "The Full Moon Makes Faces Tonight," is a couplet that I completed on June 14, 2017. I actually wrote this particular poem about a rather curious full moon at night while pondering, at times, its hidden mysteries and shades of romantic and comedic intrigue, and marveling at its obvious cosmic beauty and wonder. The moon for sure has a very special place in the contemporary and historical worlds of literature and poetry. The moon, and all of the literary symbolism and meaning surrounding its ancient and contemporary existence, has left an indelible mark on the psyche of mankind writ large. Enjoy this particular fantasy-illusion with the unique word picture I present here as it walks the reader toward basking and bathing in this full moon's lunar light on this darkest of night. (Gary Bateman - June 16, 2017) (Couplet)

The Full Moon Makes Faces Tonight Gazing out my picture window on this darkest of night, The full moon shone sky-high with the brightest of light. I spied its eldritch contours and its dark areas whole, As this lucent orb made faces at me from pole to pole. Methinks these faces were for this special moment now, A teasing fantasy-illusion for me to wonder why and how? This full moon had two eyes stone-set from East to West, Giving me a very comical-look whilst winking all the best! This lunar illusion silently sang a sly aria full of devilry, As it mesmerized my senses replete with all due revelry. As I studied this comedic-faced orb far from our Earth, I felt its true spiritual intent was one for a cosmic rebirth. The full moon made its curious faces on this darkest night, Whilst I smiled big as I basked and bathed in its lunar light! Gary Bateman, Copyright © All Rights Reserved (June 14, 2017) (Couplet)

I will definitely take a look at the "Twisting - The Dancer Spins" for tomorrow as it's currently quite late here in Germany. I look forward very much to reading it and shall get back with you. (I also have another new poem in the offing called "Death Came," a lyric poem that I should be posting in the next day or so.) Cheers and Best, Gary

Thanks Daniel for your gracious comments here and observations about the moon. I tried to touch a bit metaphorically on certain aspects of this "mystical power" in this couplet. Yes, very much too, I find the moon and all of the mystery surrounding it to be quite fascinating. Cheers and Best, Gary

Thanks very much Heidi!! I pleased you enjoyed this couplet. I actually got the idea for this poem about a week ago when I had a really good look one dark night at a full moon that had shone through my writing room window while I was busy writing away. That "Full Moon" inspired me to write this one!! Cheers and Best, Gary
