The Clerihew
Clerihew
A form of poetry known by few.
Upon hearing the word for the first time,
I looked up and queried, "Clare Who?"
A Clerihew is a very specific form of humorous verse typically with the following properties:
It is biographical and usually whimsical showing the subject from an unusual point of view; but hardly ever satirical or obscene.
It has four lines of irregular length for comical effect.
The first line consists solely or almost solely of a well known person's name.
The above is not a good example because as you can see it isn't about a person but the poetry form itself.
It's just something that went around in my head so I wrote it.
As is usual for me I had to leave the beaten path.
Below find a more correct example:
Judy Ball
A struggling and obscure poet,
Wrote verse because she enjoyed it;
But form, she seldom employed it.
