Sleepless Nights

These long sleepless nights Waiting to hear That hot red dragon so near No way to know While you fight its fury I lay here and worry It devours acres by thousands Leaving black charcoal embers And vacant faces with no place to go The dragon said so Evacuated The last word we spoke Your home now filled with smoke While you fight the dragon - is there hope? These long sleepless nights Waiting to hear That hot red dragon so near Today brought the call I've waited days to hear You're ok and gone is my fear Thank God for His blessings.... ©Donna Jones *for my sister, a voluntary firefighter in CO...

Thank you so much David.I've been so late in responding because my sister has actually been at my house visiting over the fourth holiday and just left this morning ..I'm going to print these wonderful comments and send to her...thanks to everyone...PS they had a fire in her district while she was here..but a small one..they missed her..

xD Discovering Gratification (the poem) helped me pass Science this year for the High School course (Integrated Sci. 2 - I didn't pass advanced bio last yr, which was unfortunate 'cause i love science so much). Thank the Lord your sister is safe and sound from the flames spewing out of the dragon's mouth. Your sister defeated the dragon!

Forest fires can be devastating as Smokey the Bear has told us over the years. Worrying can cause anyone to lose sleep. Good write.

Donna, A fine tribute as this poem speaks so well of the fiery truth these brave souls face battling to save lives and property by risking their own. Gripping visuals :)

Hey everyone who has commented so kindly on this poem...thank you...as I wrote about actual sleepless ..nights for the contest of actual events a few months ago....still I can not after learning of the tragic events in AZ use its content in a contest....so God bless all firefighters and their families...and comfort to the ones in need....

Hey Richard...thank you for the kind remarks....I posted this for the contest long before I found out about the tradegy...maybe even before it happened, I don't know..now I feel so bad...I wrote this about a true event that happened to me and my sister a few months ago....I pray for comfort for the families of the ones lost...
