Shades of Autumn
As autumn twirls her colored skirt
Tree’s brilliant leaves dance round and round.
When the joyous dancing ends they
Display a carpet on the ground.
Hues that merge...orange, gold and red,
Even more beautiful in death...
Their patchwork quilt on forest floor
Still captures ways to take our breath.
Bounty beneath the harvest moon
Blesses each family abode
With crops that feed a hungry world
From tiny seedlings that were sowed.
To work the fields is no small feat.
Harvesting from our sacred earth,
Farmers with hard work now complete,
Begin in winter t'ward spring's birth.
Just like the seasons we too grow
Beginning with spring of our birth,
Into our summer bearing kin...
Beholding joys of autumn's worth.
Then lastly winter white arrives
With wisdom spread across the years.
With grace of God in how we've lived
We share good-byes with snow flake tears.
