Send in the Clowns

Benign existence living on wrath
Shuffling along a morbid path
hidden beneath layers of paint,
obscene with evil's taint.

a mask covers a harlequin face,
Ashamed, fallen from grace
trailing behind destiny's drone,
to weak to reap a path of your own.
Burdened with corruption's weight,
a blackened heart full of hate
Dazed from life's right hook,
crumbling like Jericho's tower that shook.

a Pocketful of dreams to spare,
Waltzing through life unaware.
the shackles that bind like a ball and chain
a resilience that shines within the reign.

Clown paint runs like a heart I suppose,
A crimson trail down a bulbous nose.
silently weeping within,
With a bright smile tinted grin.

walking miles in silly shoes,
along a path sorely abused
when the merry-go-round closes down,
The circus has finally left town.

Entombed buried six feet beneath,
a mourning prayer with a black wreath.
dancing with the tune of a silly car horn,
wishing like crazy you were never born.
