We are polar opposites trying to connect, Walking through a field of land mines. Sometimes we don't make it through Without becoming a bit maimed. I am the steadfast flower in your garden, The one that always grows back. Even if abused, I find a way to blossom. Tethered together by an invisible cord Our deep love somehow endures. We knew how different we were before We felt compelled to share our lives. We told ourselves opposites attract. Now as age and illness becomes entwined We have become shells of our vibrant Selves who once took on the world united. I refuse to succumb to the harsh winter As I cling to the hues of our harvest years. I will keep it at bay with songs in the sun Warming both our hearts 'till winter comes. 7-5-15

Connie, your poem seamlessly goes from spring, to summer, to autumn to coming winter - themes that guide your thoughts and wonderful images, "cling to hues of our harvest years," of opposites that magnetically attract. Wonderful! Congratulations! Happy Easter! Hugs!

Thank you Greg. I feel very lucky to still have my mate. My twin sister's husband passed away over ten years ago. We are still in our autumn years but feel winter's chill trying to creep in. Easter blessings xxoo

Yes I do, maybe because of the summer and the holiday. It will get the attention it deserves when it lands in the winner's circle.

Hello Connie, Excellent Poem!! Your write here is filled with a profound passion and deep meaning. Love is indeed complex and can be an ever-changing variable in any relationship. It's a duplicitous emotion too at times: it can be both a pleasure and a curse for some people. Your last stanza does reflect that all-important spark and rekindling of love significant in any relationship. A "7" + FAV!! Cheers, Gary

How sweet f you to make this poem a fave Gary. I so appreciate it that you liked it well enough to give it that kind of honor. Love endures, and that is the most important concern in a marriage or relationship. Thank you so much for such an enlightened comment. Cheers to you my friend, Connie

Oh I love this line - "I am the steadfast flower in your garden, the one that always grows back." This hints at the eternal. Love is so hard to define, but when it is threatened it always grows back. You are so wise, dear Connie. Love, daver

If only someone i still care for could take the time, if she ever could find the inclination, to read these lovely words! Then she might understand a little bit more about "Relationships" and how you cannot be in love all the time - but you can still care for that same person at all times! My very best regards, Connie! :) john

I love the beauty and honesty of your words, Connie! Love has its ups and downs, but it's worth fighting for. My husband and I are polar opposites. Our differences attracted us, but after more than twenty years together, we have to work at our relationship more. This is one for my faves...hugs, Rhonda

Harmony is the commingling of opposites. There is beauty in the way opposites can join into a single sound. I enjoyed your poem, there is much to contemplate with this one.
