Pieces of Bounty

How it must have been, to watch the ship,
as flames licked the sky in the bay,
and England, dear home, half a world away.
Now, flames are doused, as it sinks below the waves;
a sigh, a cheer,  a tear, for bittersweet  release;
the Bounty now at the bottom of the bay.

My young mind raced with these thoughts
as I carefully glued the final details onto the model.
There, spar and mast and sail were finished,
the HMS Bounty would sail once more!
I turned proudly to go downstairs, and time stood still
as it slipped from my hands and bounced down.

Pieces were strewn all around, and there,
the Bounty now at the bottom of the stairs…

    OH OH!!........this made me think of my boys growing up, hours spent on their models..........and then while they were at school, their bored little sister discovering them while I wasn't watching! DISASTER!!! Every boy's (or Dad's heartbreak)....what a sad but cute theme for a poem!!

    This reminds me of the many hours my boys spent assembling their models piece by piece........escaping to those adventures and to those places where little boys go after dinner. What a perfect subject for Susan's contest! loved it!

    wow, I love how you thought this up, like a re-enactment of the poor ships former demise! great creativity, Craig. If it were my contest, I would sure score this one high.

    Funny thing is Andrea, that the model going down the stairs is true! LOL--though I must say it was far from an LOL when it happened!
