On the Streets Elleipsi Stegis
They sit alone
the discarded
those we choose not to see
dirty blankets and dirty faces
while we walk on by
They sit in the darkness
afraid
vulnerable, cold and hungry
sleeping in snatches
as rats roam the streets
while we lay in our warm houses
how many tears do they shed
in fear, in hunger and in desperation?
I say a prayer each night- to keep you safe
those of you, young and old and inbetween
men, women and even children
while we walk on by- and chose not to see.
Today I saw twenty homeless people on the streets of my home town-why?
