Olive Branches

Olive Branches The scorching sun descends Upon withered lands with no rain Some trees are old and brittle When the olive branch is cut and proffered Open arms and take a new path Never be a destroyer Of dreams and new ways It is often offered only once Never lose those golden chances When a poet rides on donkey under palms Heed the words and the psalms Humanity is better with one heart Than none at all Note: Inspired by the Rio2016 Olympics, when the Lebanon’s team refused to get on the same bus as the Israeli team. Sadly a wasted opportunity, I am sure those athletes had more in common than what divides.

The first recorded Olympic games were held back in 776 BC and the first man to be crowned as Olympic winner was Korivos. When Olympic games were held there was an Olympic truce declared so all conflicts were stopped for as long as the Olympic games lasted plus two extra weeks for the athletes to return home. During the 2004 Olympics we here in Greece tried to revive the Truce and UN has accepted it. But Politics do not allow it. SHAME what happened in Rio. Bravo Arthur for writing about it!

That is a shame that that has happened...I was telling BL yesterday that the Olympics can bring so many different factions together.
