My cousin is organising a family reunion at the Old Ground hotel in Ennis in Ireland, he was telling me about a cat that the hotel has adopted and they have named him OG (the initials of the hotel),and it inspired me to write a poem about him

Located in the country town of Ennis, in the Banner County of Clare Is the ivy clad Old Ground Hotel, and to enter mice wouldn't dare Because OG is in residence, who wears a fur coat and has green eyes And the last little mouse to try his luck there, was taken by surprise. T'was one cold December night, that this mouse decided that he'd raid And wasn't until he was in the dining room, realised the error that he'd made He'd heard a loud hiss and seized with terror, ran all the way to Poets Bar But he was certainly no match for OG's speed, and alas didn't get very far. OG put out a statement, via the press office at the Old Ground Hotel To all the mice in Ennis I'm warning you, stay away and all will be well I move like a bullet at lighting speed and prisoners I will never take If you come within one mile of here, you'd better organise your wake. Word quickly spread in the mousey world, the Old Ground is out of bounds Because faithful OG is forever vigilant, he's always patrolling the grounds So if you want a mouse free stay, then I recommend the Old Ground Hotel And for you it will be like paradise and for our mousey friends living hell. He will welcome you when purring, as if to say "what have you got a for me"? But don't fall for for his tricks, because he's treated well with caviar and brie We have adopted him as our mascot for our family reunion in twenty three And we all can't wait to meet that friendly feline, that cute bundle they call OG. written on 26th October 2022

Smashing tribute to the furry feline guard cat, Tom. Do they call him ‘Og’ or ‘O.G.’ ? I like the notion that when they call him in at night they bellow, ‘Oggy Oggy Oggy, oy, oy, oy!’ Hope you enjoy the reunion… I know how much you detest travelling.

Lol, from what my cousin told me it's pronounced ogee. Its not until October next year but my cousin finds a venue and got a good deal at the old ground. No more travelling this year, need to catch my breath and catch up on some D. I. Y. Tom

This is adorable. It's funny when I hear about mouser cats. I have owned several cats but I keep them indoors and when they see a mouse, which is rare, they only chase it and then do nothing to kill it!

Quite the cat, a cute bundle no doubt is OG. Cats can tell if you like them or not. They definitely don't go near Elias but when it comes to dogs, the whole estates dogs follow him around, like the Pied Piper. However whisper in OG's,ear, i think he is oh so suave. Lol, I agree with you David, even better if one has kissed the Blarney Stone. It's not until next year but my cousin visits hotels to check out the venues and get a good price., he stayed at the Old Ground and was telling me about their adopted cat. Tom

Thank you very much Valsa, the hotel is a very old 18th century house and the reunion is next October, I've been given the job of creating a slideshow, we have music, dancing and I read out a few poems too and it's great to catch up with members of the family. Tom

I found the tale to be entertaining, Tom, OG sounds like a lovable and attractive cat. A vacation to Ireland is guaranteed to bring happiness, but the Old Ground Hotel would appear to be an exceptional setting for your loved ones' get-togethers.
