My Constant Friend
He is my constant friend
Like none upon this earth
He daily takes me by the hand
As He did from birth
He never leaves my side
When I let go of his guidance sure
To walk a path all of my own
That’s full of temptations’ lure
He is my constant friend
That I never have deserved
I’ve often let Him down
At times I’ve failed to serve–
The weak, poor and widowed
As He has asked me to
Because my needs have surfaced
More prominently come into view
He is my constant friend
Although I’ve never seen His face
I know that He loves me
I sense His mercy and grace
There’s no other friend so precious
For none know the real me
There’s not a one who would die
For my life, to set me free
I have often wondered
Just why He loves me so
For I deserved the cross
The grave where He did go
To receive the cruel punishment
For what he did not do
But chose to make this sacrifice
For the likes of me and you!
