Murphy's Gone

My son called me at work to let me know Murphy was ill, he didn’t have long to go Then he called again later in the day To let me know Murphy had passed away Tears flowed freely in the afternoon Guess I never believed he would die so soon This dog brought joy wherever he went Unconditional love, a life well spent Sometimes I look at his picture and smile Sometimes, alone, I cry for a while I knew it would hurt when he had to depart But I can’t understand how it ripped out my heart Friend stopped me and asked “What’s going on?” In a barely audible whisper I said “Murphy’s Gone.” Dedicated to Murphy, my son’s Chihuahua Who died on May 21, 2010

Vince, I have been praying for your son and was so pleased to read your blog comment that he is going to make it. I've already commented on your poem, but wanted you to know how happy I am to hear your son is recovering. God bless you both! Actually, he already has. Love, Carolyn

A lovely write Vince. Dogs can be sources of deep joy. All I had was an orange salamander who got eaten by the neighbor's cat. That doesn't count, does it? Thank you for this great write. May your dog rest in peace. Farah

Pets have always been like children to me, Vince, so it's understandable that the loss of little Murphy would be so painful. I'm sorry for your family's loss. You will always have him in your heart. God bless you. Love, Carolyn

Condolences, Vince. I had to see what my old friend, Vince was doing the Fourth of July. I kinda expected a holiday poem, but love the tribute to your son's little Mixican friend. In case you're watching, here's wishing you a happy Fourth. Love, daver

Oh wow.....this one hit home. My daughter's chocolate lab "Stanley" died about the same time as Murphy, and although he was officially her dog...he had lived with us while she was in college...and gave us all uncondtional love for 13 years. We are taking his ashes up to our cabin in two weeks, to scatter in the lake where he chased geese, and loved to swim so much. What a friend he was...you have made me cry with your poem Vince...not everyone understands how it can be with a dog. Love, Carrie
