Moonlight Sail

There was an ever so slight heel to starboard.
The steady and warm gentle wind
was our silent energy, hardly noticed,
on a beam reach that escorted us for miles
without the slightest course correction.
The tiller, now limp in my grasp,
told for this night, my sloop was guiding me.
Now joined with the peaceful pleasure
of moonlit faces with dreamlike smiles,
I thought for a second of heading her up
directly into the path of the moon,
but then, you can't embellish perfection...

    There truly is nothing more satisfying than a perfect night's sail. Something very hard to capture in words but I think you have done it Craig

    I have long thought of heaven as a large, covered front porch with rocking chairs, a pleasant view.... you have me rethinking my vision! Oh, so lovely, this. Glad I dropped by to say hi and to read your po. Lovely.

    A succinct shorty of a free verse that doesn't need to be a line longer. I found it to be a calm, almost meditative read -- great effect. The ending of the poem is really neat; good way to wrap it up.
