Mother, Magical, Moment Words

Painting by Lin Lane

"Too often we don't treasure the value of a moment until it's becomes a memory." ~ by poet
In a melancholy moment I painted a sad portrait of me, wading along the shoreline, alone and lost in a memory. It was of the day I drove away, our tears falling as I recall, mine spilling when I heard Adele's 'We Could've Had it All.' I'd tumbled from the ledge and ended up in freefall. I felt deep sorrow when those memories washed over me. Maybe it's why I painted myself on the edge of the sea. My anger was over, so no waves were roaring and crashing, just ripples nipping at my ankles; aware of water splashing, my thoughts were focused on old conversations... rehashing. Overhead I painted shadows, perhaps a storm was brewing in a moment like many when I wondered how you were doing. I missed our walks together when you always held my hand, and a second set of footprints next to mine on the sand. I thought about the drawer that held my wedding band. Eleven years and not a single word between us did we share, so, the sound of your timbered voice caught me unaware. A few awkward moments listening to what you had to say before I was trembling. I didn't know I'd still feel that way. I felt a flame ignite inside of me that I couldn't quite allay An hour spent reminiscing about the good times and the bad, and I was drawn close to you, not quite what we once had, but we recaptured tender moments when we had confessed that our bond of love was stronger than we'd ever expressed. It was a moment of discovery, we no longer kept suppressed.

what a poignant poem, Lin. I felt the heartache, pain, and anger that comes with a broken relationship. The fact that you used rhyme to detail the story is indicative of your talent and spirit as a writer. Didn't know you painted as well..that's amazing! The ending you described as a 'moment of discovery' touched me. You captured a range of emotions with your words and subtle images. Well done...! Powerful stuff, hugs, Sara

Thank you very much, Dara. I started painting long ago on a dare. I dabble at it when the mood strikes. I’m Glad to read you loved the ending.

Nice one Lin. It starts off as a sad portrait, but by the end it seems that there's a spark of happiness rekindling the fire. I really enjoyed stanza two when you used water to express emotions... roaring and crashing turning to ripples nipping. Good rhyme scheme as well. Thanks

Your poems are always well written, Lin. I like the rhyme scheme also. A rekindled love burns just as hot. However one must be careful it doesnt burn so hot it extinguishes itself. A pleasure to read you today:)

It’s love of a different nature, Danny. You know the kind I mean. The spark will always be there for us but the flames will not burn us again. Thanks a lot for reading me.
