Miss Liberty Weeps Tonight

The majestic Statue of Liberty has stood with dignity for many years. She has been a Beacon of Hope for the hopeless seeking new frontiers. She weeps with joy welcoming new immigrants to her shores. Alas, she weeps tears of sorrow seeing young soldiers off to wars. How she must weep tonight seeing young children racing for her border, Seeking sanctuary from nations that seemingly lack a sense of order. She weeps seeing the disregard of the Constitution by inept politicians, And their deceitful attempts to destroy our God-given rights and traditions. How Miss Liberty must weep seeing the way her heroic veterans are treated, Many lonely, ignored and dying from the scars of wars left untreated. In this land of plenty she weeps seeing the hungry and dispossessed, Their hopes now dashed in what was once the pursuit of a noble quest. She has weathered the many vicissitudes of America with a pensive sigh, Yet, thank God, with tenacity she still holds The Torch of Freedom high! Robert L. Robert; This is one great poem. It is a shame that she has to weep. I just wrote two poems on The young immigrants. Thanks for sharing... Lucilla

Great poem, Bob, and so true. So many abuses of our God given freedoms. you have brought many of those abuses to attention in this poem, and have given much food for thought. Very well written, my friend.... Robert. It's Liberty's tears that tarnish her beautiful body.

So well said, Bob...we seem to be in such as desperate state these days. We need some leaders and citizens who have character and will turn this nation around.

Hi Robert, This is well, heart breaking, and you have in a poem expressed this so very very well, and given the current situation a perspective. If you dont mind I may even show this to a few friends, you have well shown in spades your compassion for mankind, and I have often said, those who have served, understand this better than anyone! Thank you!
