Men Don't Cry

     Grandpa:

Today at your funeral
as I stood by your side,
I did what I could
not to break down and cry.
I knew you as grandpa
today I learned otherwise,
as my mom told a story
about a hero in disguise.
She said you fought for your country
as you fought for your life,
so you could come home
to your children and wife.
She said you were a soldier
in a world full of war,
when I heard world war ll
i just had to hear more.
I didn't start crying
until almost the end,
when I heard of the bullet
you took while saving a friend
I knew you as grandpa
today all that has changed,
as the memories I have
have all been rearranged.
I learned you was a man
a man of honor,
I'm so proud to say
you was my grandfather.
If your watching me now
and you see my tear,
it's because I miss you so much
and I wish you were here.
If I only knew then
that of witch I know now,
I'd know that men don't cry
except for when they are proud.
I love you and miss you very much,

I believe men honor the tear in a way woman often take for granted, tears of healing are often the most required be it of pride, sorrow, or mere release, thank you for sharing this gem, Vie

Oh shucks, David, this is such a moving and beautiful poem about your grandpa-- I can't help but agree with you-- no shame for men to cry, especially when they are moved to tears because they are so proud of somebody--- your grandfather seems to be such an awesome and brave man! And I sure am glad you were able to finally post this! Definitely deserves to be read!! Sending you soupmail after this-- Thank you very very much for all your comments, happy to read them & that you enjoy my poems :)

Very touching and lovely tribute to your Grandpa. However... men do cry and so they should. It completely natural and normal. Lee

Sorry to say,but this poem made me get a little teary eyed.Life doesn't have to be lived by what other people think.Tears come from different things.Joy,sorrow,sadness,love,pride.And if you have a heart full of love like me.Tears do tend to flow.Excelent Poem!!
