Lost Red Spruce Pinecone

I saw you up ahead By yourself Off to the side In the still brown winter grass Scales tightly woven At the tip Releasing only halfway The nearest pinetree Over 100 metres away A Squirrel surely brought You this far and gave up Now you will survive Among my family Of Lake Superior Rocks and driftwood Abandoned birdnests And other found Forest orphans Forever Loved 02/22/17

An amazing gem on the splendor and magnificence of Mother Nature... We that stride the planet in our exalted glory and arrogance still must yield to Mother Nature's power, majestic beauty and ability to survive despite our destructive tendencies. A7

Is this the week of your daughter's wedding? May you find some great token - in word, deed, memento, or poetry material - when you return to PS. shalom Brother

Hi Brother Anil....wedding last weekend this month....will be filled with God's Love as I celebrate with grateful joy!

Oh I do love this. Being a nature lover this really spoke to me. Perhaps a seed from the pine cone will produce a lovely tree for future family members to enjoy and you can relate the story of where it came from. Great stuff. God Bless, JB

Constance...yes, you understand my respect for all life...similar to feelings shared by our numerous Native Tribes in Minnesota & the Dakotas...a real shame injustice continues against Sovereign Tribes allowing Dakota Access Pipeline across Sacred Native Territory

Reading this one again has the familiar feel of coming home. I am from Northern Ontario originally and this scene could easily be seen and felt.

I am touched by your poem because for some years I was a volunteer to protect the forests around Athens from fires so I found your poem so beautiful my friend, James!
