Leaving My Heart

You watch me leave with eyes grown dim. Once bright, they kept me in sight and shone when I came home. But circumstances require we part. My shadow, my heart - your sad baying follows me to the door. When will you know to wait for me no more? Dedicated to Ollyver, My one and only best doggie, a miniature Eskimo that i had to give up years ago. I left him at Pet Smart, which has a no-kill policy, and I will always remember his cries as I left the store that day

So sad, Andrea, but so emotionally written from your heart. Anyone who has loved and made a dear pet part of the family, has to sooner or later endure this pain and sorrow. Congrats on your win for this contest. Hugs, Sandra

Intensely heart-breaking from the point of view of the master. Reminded me of my own dog, a golden retriever, which I had for 14 years. (He died of old age). This dog cried real tears after he thought I left him behind (we moved residence). When I came back for him there he was, crying real tears in silence. Animals can love, and they love deeply. Cynthia

So very heartbreaking....want you to know though there are very special people out there like my sister that only adopts older animals who need good homes..and boy do they get one...a log cabin in the Colorado mountains...spoiled rotten...She keeps usually four at a time..then goes and looks for disabled or older ones to replace them,..she has such a soft heart...maybe someone like her took ollyver...

Dear Andrea: I can feel your pain. We had two poodle-terriers for more than 12 years until they got really old and feeble. My vet said that that they would die of heartbreak if we gave them away. So with a heavy heart and much sadness, parted company in the land of the living. To this day, I feel a deep hollow in my heart when I think of my two dogs, Snoopy and Bear. No more dogs for my wounded heart! Thank you for this lovely poem. Best wishes, Leon

This is so sad Andrea. It brought me to tears. I just had to put down my 14 yr old Wheaton less than three weeks ago. It was our first dog and everyone was devastated. It is a wonderful etheree....Hugs Tim
