Learning the ropes

I remember when i was younger
sometime around the age of ten,
it was back when i took for granted
what it really meant to have a friend.
A friend to me was a person
who understood my every way,
no matter the fears i encountered in life
my friend stood beside me each and every day.
But the friends i had in childhood
they were too quick to teach me the ropes,
because the one thing they never taught me
was in life; how to cope.
How to cope with the loss of a loved one
or even just how to get by from day to day,
especially when life was getting to hard
just to find i was the only one standing in my way.
I've learned that some ropes are made for tieing
and some ropes twist up and bind,
then theres one rope thats made for security
to give someone like me just a little piece of mind.
This rope i'm glad i grabbed hold of
it's a rope I've found it has no end,
it's held by the hands of family
and people i consider my closest friends.
This rope has pulled me through some hard times
and on occasions it's even drug me through the worst,
i thank god for the ties that bind it
and it's the rope that i learned first.

Hi David, I miss you, what have you been doing? I keep checking but haven't seen anything new from you so I keep reading the old ones. I opened your latest Soup mail but nothing was there and wondered if you got mine. Hope all is well with you.
