Insecurity

She is dear as she lies on the bed, Given away – gray – clinging to someone new. Someone new, reticent, afraid to be given away – again! Not knowing the love in the heart of one who is also afraid To lose her to have her recaptured for a mind changed. She fluffs and peeks at me – my discovered little dog and I, Given away needlessly by those who couldn’t bother, Chased, caught, loved and treasured, not knowing her worth, A ball of fluff to hold, always uneasy, passed around, Like people little dogs with loyalty and heart to hold. Her eyes deep, quizzical, wondering. Longing to stay, never to leave.

Hello! I’m a student in high school. I am currently working on a speech event where I am to preform poetry of other people in front of judges. I really liked your poem because I found it something very relatable to my topic and I like how well it was written. I was wondering if I could use your poem for this event. The title and your name will be given credit in my introduction.

I am so flattered that you liked my poem like this. I often wonder what my little girl is thinking. Sometimes her eyes are so quizzicle and sad.

I love dogs and as a kid we usually had 3 or 4 . I remember crying when my dog Buster died. He was truly beloved and it hurt for a long time --I was 9 years old and my best friend had passed away.. Great prose my friend..

We do think of them as "little girls," or "boys," so much a part of life. Thank you.

If only people were as loyal as Man's best friend dear, Sunlite. A tender poem expressing deep emotions and strong feelings! Wonderfully done!

Precious! I know they say "A dog is a man's best friend" But surely a pooch can be a women's best friend as well! Lovely write S.W. :) Hugs Charlie
