Author's Notes: "God's Holy Whisper of Love," is a Canzone I completed on July 15, 2016. This is the second Canzone that I've written following the original poetic tradition of this particular format as significantly influenced by both Francesco Petrarch and Dante Alighieri. Similar to my first Canzone, "The Bewitching Call of the Siren," from July 4, 2016 -- my second write, "God's Holy Whisper of Love," is set in One Stanza. But this time, I limited my write to 14 Verses (essentially a sonnet-length type stanza with 12-syllable lines scored in Iambic Hexameter.) Although this poem may more resemble a Sonnet, it is not one by content definition. I followed carefully Dante's methodology for how one should build out and articulate the "Canzone" to the reader. Its schema is somewhat reminiscent of the later Shakespearean sonnet format. After all, the Canzone is known as the literary precursor to both the English and Italian sonnet forms. In this Canzone, I do my best to speak to the "intent" and "affect" of what God's holy whisper of love represents and means for mankind in general here on Earth and as part of the Almighty's greater divine plan. It's nice to know that poets from centuries past to the present, who have touched on themes similar to mine here, have continued to speak of the importance of love and passion in the human experience and the quintessential role they play in prayer and reflection toward bringing each of us closer to God. In effect, God's message to mankind in our mortal world is one of love. We should always listen for His whisper and His voice in each of our prayers. (Gary Bateman - July 15, 2016) (Canzone)

God’s Holy Whisper of Love I long to hear now God’s holy whisper of love, For its sacrosanct sound abounds most high above. This subtle soft tone mirrors forever God’s grace; It maketh our souls one in His heavenly place. God’s whisper reflects his love and passion in kind; It’s His wish for poets to set them in true rhyme. God’s whisper is our music on this mortal Earth; It sustains our love spirit for holy rebirth. Warm tears symbolize always our human passion, As we seeketh God’s plan for His divine action. God’s whisper sustains us true in all times of need; He teaches that love conquers all, and we must heed. God’s love shall be with us until the end of time; He knoweth that poets shall set His words to rhyme! Loved the old English words used, makes this outstanding work, reminiscent of times when people believed in God, and trusted in him and his word. Much needed reminders in these difficult days, that love will conquer evil. Thanks for posting this gem.

Hello John, Thanks very much for your read and most gracious words here regarding my Canzone on "God's Holy Whisper of Love." Using the variation of the Old English verb conjugations is a very useful technique I've employed to great effect in other writes. I agree that any words concerning love conquering evil, especially in today's world, are important and are much-needed. Best Wishes Always, Gary

Hello Dear Eve, Thanks so much for your read and your timely and most gracious comment on this new canzone. It pleases me greatly that you liked it. God, I believe, is much closer to all of us than some people can actually fathom especially given the "everyday nature" of our world. Have a great upcoming week, and Best Always, Gary

Hello Again Sharon!! I certainly owe you some "reads" for sure. (I'm posting poetry much slower than I used to since I'm working on the prose writes still, but there will be daylight in that tunnel eventually.) Thank you so much for your very kind comment and endorsement of my work. Honestly, I did put some considerable time and thought into this one. The right balance and tension in these precise metered writes always takes some time and thought to get these expositions to flowing with the right tone and rhythm. That's what makes these writes really both challenging and exciting!! Thanks for the Seven/FAV. I'm a big fan of the traditional sonnets. And now, I very sold on the canzone poetic formats too!! Best Wishes Always, Gary

Hello Dear One "D" . . . Thanks my dear for the gracious and uplifting comments (as always)!! And, of course, for the TR/FAV!! I pleased you like this Canzone and its poignant theme concerning "God's Holy Whisper of Love." I'm still writing and posting poetry as I can, since the prose writing I'm currently involved in does take up a large portion of my time. Whether it be poetry or prose, it's all good since I'm "spilling ink" positively in the name of literature. I'll be back by to visit your poems from time-to-time. Best Always from Ingrid and me!! "G"

Hello Dear Anne-Lise, Thanks for giving this poem a read!! I certainly totally agree with everything you mention above. Among all of the various political turmoil worldwide and the horrible evil being perpetrated various radical groups, people can most certainly develop doubts over time. It is indeed very difficult, and things like this have plagued the human dimension since the earliest years of mankind. I do really believe that God and Love do both exist and are reflected in us a human beings. However, there is a certain quorum of people in our greater world society who have thrown their lot in with Lucifer and the powers of darkness. This leaves it to all of us who are not that way to challenge and fight all this evil with all of our might and in God's name. These evil ones, in my eyes, are beyond any hope of Heavenly redemption and forgiveness. Best Always . . . Gary
