Eyes

EYES The round-of-life scene, Hope of hereafter, An aspect between Movement hinders sight and more A sandy beach Spread at the shore Glaze crust an itchy lid Harsh chemicals A thousand things hid But now I lay me down, Bright years in favor, Beloved benevolent of the town Lids drop comfortably, A flesh-fast wall See this dusty saffron galaxy - All speculation, mind, Based on ancient sacred text, On human eyes, script of the time – This mellow – now beige – array Of swirling, tiny specks sifted, Some far brightness on display Beyond could be angels awing So white, inner eye barely detects But soul might hear them sing More glorious than Cologne, Alpine, or billowing clouds, Their sweet voices whisper, moan Forgot the body prime - That ultimately false prison - In this thoughtless region sublime Dave Austin

Dark poems that sing seems almost the signature of many great poets of old. This very modern introspective write does justice to that form. Thank You for your beautiful words so appropriately laid out.

Daver, thanks for reading that little kiss poem of mine. Nothing special. I wish I had done that for my daughter when she was young. SHe was deserving of so much more than we ever gave her as a child. I was lucky to have such a wonderful daughter.

A beautiful piece; my favorite part: "All speculation, mind, Based on ancient sacred text, On human eyes, script of the time –".

Hey Daver, I only have time for this one poem at Soup and I need to get home!! Still at work but it's just to long to be here. Let me read this one now. I see you are very contemplative in this one with images of body and soul and thinking of the afterlife. Do you hope for those glorious angels, Daver? I bet they will be singing for you when you get to heaven's door!!

The idea of death poems is introspection mainly. I would treat them both seriously and humorously. I've no idea what's on the other side. I merely speculate. Love, daver
