Empty Garden

I walk down the streets but the sound has gone. My footprints on the walkway past your window and beyond. No more music echoing through the stone tree park. Just a poet who walked and left his mark. An empty garden with no more music played. Just the sounds of tears and distant prayers today. An empty garden with no more music played. The window is quiet and the shades are down. Only an older women with just a heart broken frown. Lost half her soul on that December day. Now we read how peace was their only say. An empty garden with no more music played. Just the sounds of tears and distant prayers today. An empty garden with no more music played. A circle of Imagine just across the street that says it all. A lasting impression that still draws crowds every fall. And now he watches from the clouds and fields. His words carry on for all of us to feel. An empty garden with no more music played. Just the sounds of tears and distant prayers today An empty garden with no more music played. Empty Garden by Elton John "Dear John"contest by John Heck

Michael, This is beautiful, very sad. I love my garden and have lots of plants from friends and family who have passed on from their garden. They are never forgotten as their plants bloom year on year in my garden for them.

Heartfelt write Michael. A magnificent re-write; one I'm sure even Elton himself would be impressed with. Great luck in the contest... Lay

Quite beautiful, Michael. I rarely comment anymore on PSoup. An extraordinary write. This poem will place very high in the contest. John Lennon is, and always will be, one of my favorite artists. Wonderful choice. Brilliantly written. Happy New Year.

A remarkeble tribute not only to Elton John's song, but to the peace movement that Lennon tried to lead. Incredible poem, Michael. I'll have to listen to the original song as I don't recall hearing it. This is sure to place high in the contest -- it's wonderful and reminds me a bit of Don McLain's "American Pie" in which he speaks of the day the music died. Happy New Year, Michael! Love, Carolyn

Elton John wrote "Empty Garden" and dedicated it to his late friend John Lennon. Was tough to change the words but I hope I did it justice. Happy New Year SOUP!!! Luv Michael
