Drowning in the oppression of darkness, adrift in realms of the unseen and unheard, her mind becomes blank and blind, plummeting without sound. Loved ones watch helplessly, unable to reach her, banging against the walls of her sorrowful obscurity. Her silent killer holds her tightly, slowly suffocating her fragile breaths - we lose her into the spiritless forest, as winds blow away her garments, she wanders naked as raw rain reddens unhealed wounds on her exposed skin. Her tunnel mind is a swirl of emotions, as confusing mist absorbs her senses, but her face is an expressionless vision. I pray for autumn leaves to cover her vulnerabilities, but the insecurities of rain turn them soggy, so they float away with the breeze. Voluntarily misplaced in a somber swamp of slumber. Beneath melancholic charcoal trees with black, bare branches and empty nests,   she lays consumed with her silent killer - its embrace abusing her soul's harmony.   All is blue with shivering solemn eyes, stubborn, after late night tears - but she feels comfortably numb, because no one can hurt her, within her invisible cocoon. It's a place she has been before, will leave when her mind finds balance, but she knows she will return again soon. There is no beauty in tragedy, nor a remedy, when lifeless inside. The Silent One 1 November 2020 I wanted to raise awareness about how people feel when they are depressed. I am not depressed, but I know a lot of people who do suffer from depression. There are different types and levels of depression. Recently, I have spoken to people who are in a relationship or have friends/family members who are depressed, but do not know how to deal with it. When someone has severe depression and are bed ridden, they are not lazy, they do not have the will to get up or do anything. They will not care for appearance, nor hygiene, nor eating or drinking and definitely not socializing. They do not want to be there, they have no choice. Depression is a silent killer that suffocates all the happiness and positivity inside and it is something we will not understand, unless we have been there. It is all about patience and trying to understand, how they would want you to be towards them and that can only be done by asking them, because everyone is different and has different ways of coping when they have fallen deep. The broken are normally the ones that love harder, as they have seen the dark and know what it is like to feel unloved. https://www.bwcharity.org.uk/guides/mind/depression?gclid=Cj0KCQjwufn8BRCwARIsAKzP697Q36hw6lo9W5Aoe8Grx5GLhNsQYNkVnQhiueBe_5qVroMzsgOzc4IaAidzEALw_wcB https://www.mind.org.uk/information-support/types-of-mental-health-problems/depression/for-friends-and-family/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwufn8BRCwARIsAKzP695wVQOncLHo2ma5a1z9QDa02sv23K5glL0rbomIYMPHSYBvyMS5qRIaAkFZEALw_wcB

Wow! Only one word! POWERFUL! And thanks for trying to bring awareness! Just Wow! If one has never experienced depression these words may help to bring that feeling and imagery to those who never have experience what its like to be depressed but this is a start a way to help them understand. Powerful! Very well crafted. Nice work!

I love your use of words and can feel the emotion. I also paint, studied under famous fine artist. I have an idea to hide poems in my paintings...when i start painting again. BUT I must say, this poem, made me visualize a lot so much. If I ever do start painting again. Lately, I've been composing poems where the first letters spell something if you read it ..down. follow me if you can and I also promise you that I canwrite s poem spelling down...anything you ask.

I am glad you explained it at the end. I was not sure what it was about. I guess I have to have things spoon fed sometimes! The imagery truly goes well with the topic of depression! Something I rarely feel, which is probably why I don't relate. I feel disappointment and bitterness much more than depression. Maybe depression is when disappointment is magnified into something beyond one's control. My husband knows it and has to take medicine for it.

I am glad you do not feel like this and sorry about your husband.. sometimes when we are very busy, it acts like a coping mechanism.. Sometimes sadness can be mistaken for depression also.. Thank you

You are too kind and I am glad I described it well, so other people can understand what it is like, as if we have not suffered from it, we can struggle to comprehend why people behave in a certain way.. Instead of getting frustrated and annoyed, learn to be patient and try to understand that their behavior is down to their mental wellbeing...

Depression is very common and it is getting more during these troubled times, It is important to raise awareness like you did, not everyone has the open hearted ways of you, wish more did, what a beautiful world it would be, if more depressed people found a soft place to fall on, open ears,... thank you for sharing dear friend, your write poetry of importance, with great depth.

It sucks the life out of you Pixie and I would not wish it upon anyone, when i see others suffer from it, I just want to help.. Try to make the smile, or do and say things that will help their mind.. But it can be difficult and sometimes it is better to leave them alone, until they reach out to you..

This is a social issue. Depression is a type of mental illness. It hits all walks of life, rich or poor, young, old. Some overcome it, some get addicted to the medication and some never have a chance because the sadness and the darkness are so overwhelming. They feel alone, no matter how much love is around them or no matter how much support you give them. The act of kindness we can give is pray for them to overcome it before it's too late. I have a poem "Depression".

The silent killer does not care who you are and it can hit anyone, even those who have never suffered trauma..Im not sure praying will work, but to be patient and listen is the best way of being there for someone.... Thank you Marilene..

My heart is comforted in knowing, that there are ways to deal with depression. Medicine and the love and kindness of those around you. It is a silent killer, but we can help those dealing with this illness. There may never be a cure. Being there for someone, is more of a cure than you realize. ~ Brandy

Personally, I think medication makes it worse, it is about finding coping methods and what suits someone.. sadly, there is no real cure to depression.. As you say love and kindness helps.. Thank you Brandy

Hope in this one line: I pray for autumn leaves to cover her vulnerabilities but alas depression is not easily overcome.
