Days of Summer

We immersed ourselves
in the city of love
where the streets
flowed red with wine
and the thick summer air
tasted of warm honey.
Every word you spoke
became a song,
your gentle fingers
composing a symphony
in my flesh.
The chords faintly echoed
as you walked away,
Your heart belonging to another.
I remain trapped in this moonbeam,
frozen in these days of summer,
waiting for the Earth to turn
and the Sun to bring you back to me.
For though I do not have your heart,
Your soul remains within me,
ghosting among my bones
and whispering that sweet old melody-
I love you.
