Day One

Day one The day that changed my life Sent me on a different course Became a life force Informed my future direction Helped me make better selections No longer living in a place of correction Before that day I was never good enough Life treated me rough I believed I was not made of good stuff I longed to disappear Better if I was never here I had resided in a place of fear Until that one day One day That day A teacher Believed in me Let me know I was more What life had in store He reached down to my core Like a parched desert I drank it in Let his words fill my heart Permeating every part How we finish more important than where we start All it takes is one One person One day New notes will play Lives can change in that way I am so thankful For Day one

It doesn't take much, one day-day one, so very thankful and it shows and your moment grows.

This reminds me of a teacher we had, we called him 'Holy Joe' but he remains one of the few I can still picture in my mind. This is a lovely write Rick, and a fine tribute to both of you. Take care, Richard

One day can evolve into day 1 if we reflect back on our past, and the importance of those who made the difference. Great write as always

I loved the word "teacher" you embedded in the 3rd stanza. It's perfect! Only few people this day are ready to live to being honest and kind in their works and in their actions. I'm glad to I know you through your works. While I wonders if any one know me through such. Good luck. AO

Most importantly God knows it, no other opinion maters in the scope of that realization..

Perhaps only you know this. My Doubtless you commented was spiritual, honoring God, the Almighty. Thanks for your visit. I don't know why my comment appeared twice on your work. The same thing happened to one of my poems I posted yesterday.

I feel I have come to know your heart through your comments as well as your poems. From where I sit I see you to be a man of honor and compassion. You are emotionally generous and you love God. This is a powerful combination.

Hi, Richard...yes...the learning never ends. Sometimes our best teachers are not the ones we had in school, but those who taught us in the school of life. Lately I'm learning to keep things more to myself....the world is not interested. This is a great poem. I had read it before but wasn't up to posting. I read everything you write though I may not always post. This is very moving. As teacher, I found comfort in it. To answer your question, it is 9:17 am. Have a good night, Richard.

Personally I would go with the real you, we can not control how others react but still we should be true to ourselves. In the end the people who really want to know us will make it worth while.

Hi RIchard, my post goes beyond the writing. I'm talking about life in general. I've learned that openness and honesty are not appreciated. When I was programming manager for a Christian TV channel, the two negative points my boss had in my evaluation were that I was too honest and too kind. No need to share and become vulnerable. No need. I've had a week's hiatus..spring break. Summer session starts on Tuesday...I'm going in a different me. Thanks for the post.

I read all of yours as well. I do not agree with the not interested part. I think your present view may me clouded as all of our views become from time to time. I have moments when I wonder why I write and if anyone cares and knowing a friend is reading makes it worthwhile. Thanks for being a friend.

That explains it, I read your poem and was confused by the comment you posted. You could have left it the same, I am not the only one who has been helped by a teacher. Tell me about your experience.

I called him when I grew up, he did not remember me but that was okay, I just wanted him to know he made a difference.
