Inside my heart I have unwritten codes Those values I enforce by self demand Unbreachable, my lines drawn in the sand Their presence helps to navigate my load With age my principles have not grown old Though times may change, the heart's still in command I'll walk a line to lend a friend a hand My conscience keeps my boundaries patrolled And even though I do my very best I make mistakes, sometimes I cross a line That does not mean I'll compromise the rest It simply means that I am not Divine There may be times when I'm falsely assessed But my self worth is rarely in decline by Daniel Turner

Charlie, if I didn't know you better, I could take that in a very bad way. However, since I know you have a good heart, I'll just smile and say, I doubt it:)

This is such an inspiring poem which applies to our new fast moving society where so many times values are discarded. keep it up friend! :)

Enjoyed your sonnet. Having God fearing parents is a blessing The Bible says 'train up a child in the way that he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it'. We need parents to train, but their rights have been taken away in this crazy politically correct world.

My daddy taught me the hard way, there is a fine line between fear and respect. I had both for him. Thank you, Scarlett:)

Great sonnet Danny, I think it's great to analyze oneself from time to time, see what we're really made of,(other than clay of course) sometimes others can give us a closer estimation of ourselves, I think sometimes we are a little too kind to ourselves, but I have no doubt you are a man of character!

You are a man of character, Danny! I believe that when we are taught important values at a young age, they stay ingrained in us for life, even if sometimes we might err...but who is perfect, after all! Regards // paul

Character is the one thing which makes us all different and the same at the same time. Our live's are character driven. Unfortunately, some of those among us drive it in the wrong direction because of certain influences in our life. It sounds to me like yours is well grounded and was built to last. Great work with both words and life.

Thank you, Dan. I think a lot of people are only concerned with themselves and how much they can attain (material things) in life. I appreciate your kind comments and your time:)

Very admirable outlook in the way you see your character. We do the best we can but there are bound to be mistakes along the way, because we are all human! A wonderful message in this poem Daniel! : )

What a great way to do Italian sonnet, Danny. I feel this way myself. I sometimes go over my own lines but I love how you put it. "It simply means that I am not Divine"

It is good to hear that you are a man of principle..So many men and women today are not of that quality..We need more good men and women to occupy the earth..I like the quote above and I do believe that talents are gifts and that we can develop them or not if given the opportunity..Thanks for dropping by my work..Sara

Mrs Sara, I can honestly say it's a work in progress. I think the older I get, the more I am aware of my actions and realize for every action there is a reaction.
