Breathless In Whitby

I puffed and panted up the steps (and thought about the novel Dracula, in which the character called Mina ran up there) and gasping, wheezing crawled towards the top to look out over Whitby from the cliff. The view was simply beautiful, I found - enough to take one's breath away (but I was breathless as it was, and so I tried to catch my breath!) I didn't want to think about the trek that faced me as I left to walk back down those steps... Remembering a visit to Whitby & climbing the famous 199 steps written 6th January for Constance's B 'Breathless' blank verse contest

Hi Jack just makes me tired of thinking of 199 steps. Just had a week of fever apparently after effects of the virus which lasted 2 weeks. Congrats on your win. Hope all is well your way. love phyl

Hello Jack ... sometimes the body doesn't react to the mind in the way it is supposed to. 199 steps; sounds easy when I say it - thanks Jack - Lindsay

Hi Jack, may 2022 be a year of health, surprises and adventure. Love your poem, there is an Island in Greece - Tinos at the top of which is a church and believers climb to the top - it is like a pilgrimage and they make a promise of abstinence, to do without something they love most, or forgive someone they really dislike, or make a huge donation to the church. This is done so that they will be rewarded with a loved one getting better or perhaps a couple struggling to have a baby, millions of reasons. like one would do in Lent. Just an example. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.
