Believe

Push back the curtains; see my hungry heart It cries for love, yet no one seems to hear For far too many have been drawn apart And future aspirations seem unclear A heavy-hearted world consumed by grief Believing, still believing joy will come Though hope’s been captured by a heartless thief That leaves an empty seat once used by Mum Our brothers, sisters, children gather round To mourn the passing of a precious life But in my heart, some comfort I have found From friends and family with blessings rife I’m thankful for the loved ones who remain May they restore our spirits once again

Reading this instantly reminded me of Eileen, my very closest friend of thirteen years who passed away in 2016. When she died, part of me went with her.

What a sad time to lose someone close to you. On my cousin's wedding day her father had a major heart attack and died so I know how you feel. Hugs to you and your family. God Bless, JB

Harry, it was hard for my brother to lose his wife just days before Christmas. His six children are looking after him now, but they had an awful Christmas. I hope yours was wonderful, my friend. I didn't have your Australian address to send a card. Maybe you can send it to me for next year. Love, Carolyn

These are such trying and humbling times we are going through, Carolyn...yet I believe the New coming year will bring light back to the world. You have written a very powerful and meaningful sonnet. ~ Elaine

Losing dear ones is sad, and being Christmas time makes it even worse, Carolyn. At least there is the knowledge of eternal life. Hugs // paul

It was my sister-in-law who passed a few days before Christmas. She and my brother had six children. It was a hard Christmas for them. I hope yours was much better!

Yes, it's encouraging to have vaccines now. It will take some time to recover, but we do have some hope. Thanks for reading, Joseph. Merry Christmas, Carolyn

Hi Carolyn, It is so heartbreaking when we lose a loved one. They live on in memories and hearts, and they would want us to make new memories with our loved ones still here. Excellent job. Best wishes in the contest. Have a great day:-)Alexis

Thanks, Alexis. My brother's wife Linda died last Sunday. They had six children. I was thinking of the feasts Linda prepared every Christmas for her children and their families. If the family is together this year, she will be missed.

I really like how you lifted the curtain on how the world feels--unfolding emotions that dwell in grief. Yet, there is much to live for ---Believing, still believing joy will come...very well said! Your up beat ending is just the right message of much needed hope. Lovely evocative Sonnet, Carolyn. All the best.

It is the ideal situation that one grieves over the departed, but rejoice on those left behind. ~~

Its devastating when our loved ones pass but they leave behind precious memories for us, a very emotional sonnet Carolyn that many will identify with. Good luck in the contest Tom
