Fall's colorful leaves are most appealing to me, Gilding the hillsides with gold, touching every tree. Hay rides on a wagon bed add to Halloween fun, Impossible not to enjoy the painted setting sun. Jack O' Lanterns carved from pumpkins collected. Kinships are kindled by new friendships connected. Leaves keep drifting down in a soft familiar way. Memories flood back in sweet years of yesterday. Neighbors sipping cider with the affection of friends Offering to help each other before the season ends. Prayers said together keep those tornadoes at bay Quelling any fears that severe weather storms will stay. Rain adds a heavenly petrichor refreshment to the fall Sustaining earth to give rebirth, reviving one and all. Trees greet autumn sun as they kiss leaves goodbye Until cold north winds usher snowflakes from the sky. Veils of frost begin to turn the landscape snowy white. Winter waves her magic wand bringing dazzling delight. © Connie Marcum Wong 9-5-16 Alphabet Soup Poetry Contest Sponsor Kim Merryman

The imagery and sentiment are spectacular, and you hardly ever read 'petrichor' extra kudos for that!

I just looked it up. She gave me a 4 and you a 5. But she had several winners. Name of the Contest Alphabet soup. It is no wonder you can't keep track. You enter so many. I am working on Ancestry right now and it sure takes hours. I am going to bed and will get back online tomorrow for a little poetry. Nite. xxoo

You placing, I do get and I hope it was high because a lot of intellect and talent went into this beauty of a write. It drew me in so much that I didn't want it to let go. It's so sad to see summer shrink before our eyes. I do love Autum. I'd be happy if there were only three seasons. A lovely piece Connie.

Yes, I totally understand Richard. Shoveling snow, cars that won't start and digging them out to drive them if you have to park in an uncovered space...not much fun. I happy you enjoyed my poem Richard. Thanks so much! ; )

Petrichor is a pleasant smell that frequently accompanies the first rain after a long period of warm, dry weather. Thank you Matthew. ; )

Every season has its beauty, but autumn is my favorite Paul. I melt in the humid heat, so summer is my least favorite time of year. We can swim outside in the winter here, so the cooler weather is preferred in the tropics. Thank you for your kind comments Paul. Cheers, Connie : )

I really loved this poem because the reference to hayrides flashed me back and then the cider, pumpkins and all of the falling leaves. A real back home feel. Great write Mrs. Connie. Thanks for the memories:)

Very evocative, Connie, and I love the getting together, the bonds, friendships strengthened as everyone battens down the hatches for winter. Lovely descriptions, too. This will do well, I'm sure. Viv x

People in the midwest watch out for their neighbors. My mother and father were from a very small town in Kansas, and that was my inspiration for this poem. The weather usually tops the conversation of the day. Thank you very much Viv. ; )

Yes Eve, we had two hurricanes coming our way, but one went north and the other went south of us, and we were very fortunate. We just got storms and rain but not much damage. Thank you for your nice comment! ; )
