Alcatraz

Alcatraz By Kevin Robey August 26, 2013 The ultimate joke, I realized today We’re all prisoners of our own minds No matter what we do or what we say We can’t face the answers that we find We buy, we steal, flashy rims and wheels To cover our debts, ironic but true Maybe it’s why this haze seems so surreal But I don’t see myself in the shiny and new I see blank white walls and all that they bring Questions without answers that I ask at night Staring at the ceiling fan, I can almost hear it sing Angels freeing me from the chaos of the fight It’s all that we bring, the questions we’ll never sing Speaking in silence as we walk on worn paths Dancing without music like puppets on a string Lost souls in this world with a haunted past Maybe we’ll never answer the questions we bring This is my journey, but it could never be yours One day we’ll be free of our aimless minds Till then I know that’s it’s ok to simply want more

I do understand and have traveled a similar path. Seems to go in a circle and come back to where I started. Where can we find the angel SERENITY? I suppose it is when we make the choice to see her and learn her ways. You poem is a compendium of life's wary ways. Thank you for writing it well. Allan

You have a lot of cool lines in here that I wish I had penned. I like the narrative feel to it; I felt like I was with you as I was reading, instead on flying off on various flights of fancy, which I am so prone to do with my own writing. As with songs, I enjoy poems that tell a story. Really cool piece; enjoyed it very much, and kudos for rhyming :)
