Author's Notes:  This is a romantic and passion-filled poem I wrote which looks at "love" and the mystery surrounding it as a "Time of Bliss," which turns out to be the poem's title and its overarching theme.  My intent here in this emotive write is to mold a word picture essentially attempting to portray the alchemic force and enchantment that love arouses between two people when they cross their "normal bounds of moderation" -- smitten by Cupid's mystical arrow -- and fall deeply and hopelessly in love.  The result is, as the couple's love is acknowledged and shared, it binds their fate as two lovers and two souls whose passion and love are melded as one -- and they've found that most sought after "rare love" to treasure for an eternity.  It would indeed be really nice if this circumstance were true for everyone who falls in love, but this particular metaphor as it applies to real people and real lives will always be part of the human experience whenever a man and a woman meet and fall in love.  (Gary Bateman - February 1, 2015) (Rhymed Quatrain)

A Time of Bliss Love’s a mystery to everyone falling under its magical spell, And it would be natural to think we all know it so very well. But with emotions ripe and afire in this special time of bliss, It’s easy for those so smitten not to sense something amiss. Love’s a most potent alchemy enchanting at once one’s soul, And when it’s returned in kind it makes one’s life quite whole. The pure passion that love excites is beyond all earthly compare, Which makes it an emotive force not subject to any trifled dare. Love’s a time of bliss when a couple’s very love melds them as one, And affairs of the heart shape their fate as two souls form as one. This is the moment when lovers rejoice in such unbridled pleasure, When each knows they’ve found a love so rare for eternity to treasure. Thanks ML!! It's an ideal notion as opposed to how things usually normally transpire between two people. But, I guess as poets we're always slanted more toward eternal optimism. Best Always, Gary

Methinks the time of bliss is not long lasting but we all have to settle for a deeper kind of love which brings its own kind of bliss. security and companionship. Nice one, Gary.

Methinks you're right on this Andrea. Its sounds so good to portray things in the ideal circumstances, but the "deeper kind of love" in the end is the way all enduring relationships (and marriages) go if two people are to stay together. (I can attest to this now since my wife and I have been married almost 25 years now. Oh Boy!!) Glad you liked the "ideal nature" of the poem Andrea!! Best Always, Gary

Rajat My Good Friend!! Yes -- you are most correct about "Love." It's the strongest and most powerful of the emotions that array the psychological make-up of mankind. That's precisely why I chose "alchemy" to reflect the utter power and effect of love as a human emotion!! (I'm currently getting my poetry ready now with my publisher for publication later during May-June. And so, I'll be off-line here for about the next three weeks or so -- but I will have many new poems to post in early March on my return. I look forward also to reading your poetry again on my return!! Best Rajat -- to you and your family from Ingrid and me -- and I will be in touch again here in the near future!! Gary

A splendid discussion on love and its effect on people under its spell. Objectively written from the writer's point of view, done in an exquisitely intelligent but tender way, nothing is forgotten. My pen renders 7 salutes to yours, sir. Bless you...Kim:)

Hello Kim, Thanks for your read and very thoughtful comments here -- and for the "7" rating!! This write is definitely from a writer's point of view. The practical reality of most relationships, however, is different but this is something most writers need to stay aware of as they attempt to poetically relate "ideal circumstances" from an artistic perspective. Continued best wishes with all of your writing!! (I will be off-line here for the rest of the month finalizing all my work for my publisher, but will catch up with you when I'm posting again by early March!!) Cheers, Gary

Hello Terry!! Thanks for the "7," and thanks so much for your read and most gracious comments on my poem. What you say is quite true about my poem describing "what true love should be." I think all of us fall in that category of striving to fulfill this vision, but usually can't make it happen. I invite you to read further any of my poetry as you choose. Liam McDaid told me that you are aware of a number of the co-writes I've done with him. (We will continue with our co-writes.) I will drop by to check out your poetry too. Best Wishes Always Terry . . . Gary!!
