A Little More Sleep

Today I awake and see the prices I’ve paid, All I held dear and wished could have stayed. I search through the deck for cards to be played, The fabric of life appears tattered and frayed. I wonder what this is as I view something new, I know what’s before me, simply won’t do. I pick up the pieces and send them to you, The sun holds its own in a sky that is blue. I walk to a brook and hear a babbling sound, Debris comes to the surface, washes up on the ground. The ripples carry change from the water to the shore, As they make landfall, I can see what’s in store. I look once again I believe I’ve been here, I wonder what’s next as a ripple grows near. It changes in size as it hits the bank. I feel like a hostage that must walk the plank. As I walk out I hope I will be able to swim, My life flashes by on a prayer and a whim. I think to myself, is this real what I see? Step off the plank and I’ll see what will be. I struggle a while and then float to the top, I know that these challenges simply won’t stop. All that I hope comes down to swim or sink, I realize it all in, the time it takes to blink. I find myself cast upon some distant shore, I made it this far because I wanted it more. All that I knew has vanished in thin air, Who will hear you when nobody is there? I start to feel tired so I take a rest. I may not succeed but I gave it my best. I close my eyes and count some sheep, I know I’ll do better with a little more sleep.
